1 out of 5 eggsDrive failed in less than 90 days!

Pros: Multiple connections is great. I am a pro-photographer and used it as a back-up to my photos.

Cons: In less than 90 days the drive failed and I lost 2 years worth of my work. NewEgg warrantee is 30 days so I had to go through Lacie.

Other Thoughts: I do not recommend this product.

5 out of 5 eggsI've had only good luck with LaCie

Pros: Flexible ports for many connection options (Firewire 800, Firewire 400, USB 2.0, eSATA). Works great out of the box. No fan, so very quiet. Works well with a Mac.

Cons: Pricey

Other Thoughts: I have only had good luck with these LaCie Quadra drives. This is my third. A have a 750 GB and 1.0 TB drive in addition to this 2.0 TB drive just purchased. The older LaCie Quadras I own are 2 to 3 years old, with no failures.

I love the ability to use Firewire 800 to connect these drives to my 2011 iMac i7. With two Firewire 800 ports in the back of each Quadra drive, I can daisy chain the LaCie drives together and give them all access to the single Firewire 800 port on my iMac. They operate much faster with Firewire 800 than USB.

1 out of 5 eggsFailure

Pros: In its infancy, this device was leading edge technology.

eSATA is becoming more rare in relatively versatile external hard drive devices... so it is great to have a device that works on eSATA for us tech-savy, and usable via USB/1394 to port data to friends computers or off-site

Cons: Within a month or so of ownership... the device could no longer simply be turned on and recognized. I would have to boot the device with the eSATA unplugged, then connect the eSATA after the device booted. I suspected this was a cable problem... bought new cables a few times and the same problem presented. I then checked the port, and all eSATA ports on the computer work perfectly with other devices. I tested my drive on several other computers, same issue.

That said, it was more of a major inconvenience than flaw. Now however, the drive continues to cycle through its boot-up process and there is a mechanical scratching sound during the boot-up. The device no longer works at all (and all data is lost, which defeats the utility of purchasing this device as a back-up unit since it is not reliable).

I would steer clear of this personally... and recommend the same to friends/family/NewEggers

4 out of 5 eggsDoes the Job

Pros: Firewire - Mac - Awesome

Cons: Bright Bright Blue Light

Other Thoughts: I use the following system:
iMac Intel Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz with OS X Version 10.6.7.

I purchased this drive to be my new time machine and to hold some video files.

The read / write speed is great, the only thing that caused a problem was the constantly glowing blue light on the button in the front. I ended up getting some black electrical tape and covering it, you don't need to push the button typically so I see no problem using an easily removable black tape to cover it.

As I stated in the Pro's The thing I like best about the Lacie brand of external drives is all of the connection options, if I need to connect another PC, or MAC, I have every option I could want or need.

(Don't use Duct tape, you'll leave a sticky residue behind if you want to remove it later.)

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Great speed. Nice choice of interfaces. Quiet operation. 3-position power switch.

Cons: Not sure what to say. May it's a bit heavy, but it's understandable, as the drive has aluminum casing.

Other Thoughts: I've chosen this drive for its speed, size, a lot of connectivity options (NB! All cables are included!) and smart design. The set up was easy. I've tried it first with a USB cable, but then I've discovered the speed of the Firewire 800 and I think I'm going to stick with this interface, especially as I plan to purchase the second d2 quadra drive. BTW, these drives are daisy-chainable via Firewire!
My overall experience with the drive has been very positive. I'll for sure continue using Lacie drives!

2 out of 5 eggsQuiet, but failed quickly

Pros: a relatively quiet drive to have in your living space.

Cons: Like so many external HDs this one failed within 4 months. Lacie tech support is not an 800 number and the fill out a web form support request process will take a few days to talk though your problem (if you have one). They have now asked me to send my drive to their repair facility and promise to have it shipped back to me in about 7 days.

Other Thoughts: My version of this drive was the 1TB in capacity. I am giving this drive a rating of two, but am starting to feel that the failures that I and friends have had may have something to do with the nature of external HDs.
