5 out of 5 eggsREAD CAREFULLY

Pros: Very fast USB 3.0 drive. It's ruggedized with a big rubber bumper - and pretty solid without. You can get different colored rubber bumpers.
USB3 is backwards compatible to USB2
IF NEEDED - The extra power cord just hooks to a second USB port and not to an actual wall socket - and if you have a newer machine, you will probably never need it anyway.

Cons: Can always use a longer USB cord. On OLD machines may need the second USB power plug to add the power that's needed.
If you have an older computer and do not have two USB ports, this drive may be a problem. If you have an up-to-date machine, odds are you will never use the second power cable.

Other Thoughts: This it is NOT a firewire drive like one of the commenters added. There is a USB 2/firewire version - but this aint it, and that version is slower.
Because of the speed of this drive, it draws more power than the typical external drive. For Older computers with USB ports that do not supply enough juice from one USB port, LaCie supplies an additional USB cable for power only. One is used as a data and power (if you have an up to date computer it will probably be the only cable you need).
If you plug it in to an older computer and it just "clicks away", it's because that USB port isn't providing enough power. All you have to do is plug in the second cable which is only used for the additional power and you are up and running.
Don't drop your electronics in the toilet, retrieve them, and rate the product poorly for not working. If you have an external drive with you in the toilet, there is probably something very wrong.

1 out of 5 eggsJust clicks away...

Pros: Cool looking

Cons: Doesn't work, just clicks clicks clicks, spindles don't spin

Other Thoughts: Hoping replacement is significantly more useful than this silly orange paperweight.

1 out of 5 eggsThis thing sucks.

Pros: It looks durable

Cons: Dropped in a toilet and no longer works. Not a happy camper.

Other Thoughts: It should be waterproof.

5 out of 5 eggsBest Portable Hard Drive I've Owned

Pros: Super Rugged, Smart Design, Fast, Useful, Small, Rubberized Edges, Well Built, Cool Looking, High Quality to Price Ratio

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: This drive has been my portable hard drive since i bought it and it has never failed me. I am careful with it, but have no fear that it can take abuse should i be careless. It is very sleek looking, very fast and my favorite part is that it uses USB2, Firewire400 and 800. I work in multiple computing environments (a few macs and a few pc's) so i just format it for pc and use it wherever i want. Its very fast and requires NO additional power which is endlessly convenient. I just leave the appropriate cable (usb/FW/FW800) at the respective stations and just tote the drive with me wherever I work. I am a 3D artist so I always need my library of models, textures and utillities. This drive satisfies all my needs. I simply cant rave enough, especially after the plethora of junky drives that have failed me time and again or required a case to carry it and the un-necessary power cables (ugh). Just get one... seriously. Your search has ended.

5 out of 5 eggsRugged

Pros: I just ran this over with my car; I had to open the case voiding my warranty to reshape it - but the drive still works. Check disk returned 0 errors.

While I can't comment on the longevity of the drive after this incident, I was at least able to copy my data to another disk :)

Cons: If the exterior case was twice as thick, it might have not been damaged at all!

Other Thoughts: Wish it was cheaper, but I guess it's the price you pay.
