Other Thoughts: People who have such awful issues with this product simply aren't reading the instructions and setting it up properly, and they probably have unreasonable expectations for the product. Do your due dilligence, take a few minutes and set it up right - and you'll never have a problem. And it's not hard. That's why I'm mystified by one of the reviews here and the ones on the Apple website. I feel like there is unreasonable negativity from some people.

The Cloud Box does exactly what it's advertised to do. It works great. Just not as fast as I'd like (I have a completely wired, fast, home network). I feel like this product should be a bit faster at what it does. Despite that, it's great for family use, and you can separate and secure data easily. Media stream is flawless, and data transfer is sufficient for average home user (30-40 MB/s)...

I have my thunderbolt external for media and file back up and time capsule for time machine as the Cloud Box isn't meant to be the end-all for home NAS or backup needs. It's a little media server for basic home use, and it works great for what it is meant to be... I mean, look at the price. It's pretty cheap, and in my mind, a great value.

Pros: Absolutely a total piece of garbage! I received this for Christmas, purchased by my wife on newegg and yes set up was easy but that’s about it. From there this is useless hype. Do yourself a favor, read the reviews on Apple’s web site, believe them, and STAY AWAY!

There are other solutions, more expensive maybe, but more effective, and no noisy, constantly chirping drives out of the box that LaCie states is normal. Sorry LaCie chirping drives is not normal, and you need to stop telling people it is. I hate lies.

Apparently these have Seagate drives (according to replies from LaCie tech support) which don’t have the best reputation these days anyway, however I do use Seagate drives for all of my back ups and all of them are silent. Hmm, maybe they are bad? Should I return them for noisy ones?

Cons: Cheap build, poor quality control, noisy, bad tech support.
