4 out of 5 eggsExcellent product, one little snag

Pros: Totally transparent hardware encryption--I cannot detect a speed penalty. No drivers needed. I use Apricorn hardware-encrypted drives for ALL my data storage. Nothing on the desktop or the laptop computer. This eliminates sync issues between desktop and laptop. The external drive has it all.

Cons: Cons? The buttons! Because you absolutely positively cannot get into your drive if you cannot enter your secret number, the failure of one numeric button can lock you out from all your data. Now, those buttons seem well made. I've had Padlock drives of this type for years (in the past, they were 250GB and 500GB versions) and they have not failed me. However I notice I have to use more fingertip force to enter the pass code, as the drive ages. And I get password entry failures more often. The answer, of course, is simple: Buy two drives and make sure one is always an up-to-date backup of the other. The product seems so superior to me, it's worth it.

I still think numeric entry is a better system than the fingerprint ID system, because--what happens if you cut your finger?
