5 out of 5 eggsAwsome

Pros: This is great for transporting files as well as saving files for system restores.

Cons: It is broken down into three partitions. Does someone knows how to make it just one storage. I will try and just format the whole drive.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Backup Solution

Pros: I used this product as part of a backup solution after a clients tape drive failed. Fast and quiet. Now takes a few minutes to backup their data instead of the usual 3/4 hour the tape drive took. Bought two for the client so one can always be off premises for security reasons and still saved money over purchasing a new tape drive system.

Cons: USB cable that comes with drive is very short

4 out of 5 eggsQuiet small, power hungry

Pros: Compact size. Quiet. On/off switch is nice.

Cons: Warning: 80gig drive requires more than 500mA to spin up. This can be more than many newer (ie strictly USB compliant) laptop USB buses provide.

Other Thoughts: This drive wouldn't spin up on my 15" Aluminum Powerbook because it requires more power than the 500mA the USB spec indicates for bus-powered devices. Worked fine on my desktop machine and an older laptop. They were more lenient with power.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small, cool, fast and quiet...backed up a small office server and took everything offsite. I have purchased several conventional size external hard drives in the past. They seem like oversized dinosaurs by comparison. No power adapter is needed for this baby. Device Manager indicates that the product uses a Western Digital laptop drive for storage.

Cons: A little more pricey than all the big competitors - still much cheaper than a SCSI tape backup.

Other Thoughts: I immediately formated the drive to NTFS. I did not try the packaged software.

5 out of 5 eggsFast, but at 6.4" it's a little long

Pros: 5400RPM (vs. 4200 for some others). Works with my desktop PCs (WinXP), my old Dell laptop with USB 1.1 (XP) and my Mac 12" PowerBook with OS 10.4 (both laptops were on battery power).

Cons: It is over an inch longer than some others (if this is just to give the faster 5400RPM drive better cooling then it's not really a Con, but I'm not sure if that's the case).

Other Thoughts: This is apparantly the second revision of the drive, per Iogear's web site, and The power cable in the picture, with USB and PS2 connectors, isn't included (it isn't needed anyway, both my laptops built in USB ports worked with it fine).

5 out of 5 eggsSize DOES matter!

Pros: VERY small - 2.5"
Quiet
No external power adapter needed
On-off switch
Active lights
TOUGH metallic casing
Comes with leathery carrying case
Plug-N-Play

Cons: Obviously more pricier than other 80GB external hard drives, but you're paying for compactness!

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these mini external hard drives and I use them for take home backups. I just unmount the device in Windows, turn it to the OFF switch, and unplug the included USB cable and pop the external hard drive in my cargo pants pocket.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat External Drive

Comments: IO Gear strives for quality. They did it again with this drive. Since it's bus powered, it's an excellent drive for places where you don't have AC power (airplances). Contrary to some other reviews, you only need one USB cable to run this drive (power and transfering). Great buy!!!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Comments: Truly Plug and Play and Great Storage - 80gb. There is an on/off button which is a nice feature. I needed to increase my storage capacity on my home PC ( only 40gig drive ) and I needed something I can take with me on the go for work related items. This does the Trick. Overall great product at a great price - Thanks NewEgg - much more expensive elsewhere.

5 out of 5 eggsso far, so good

Comments: Bought this drive a couple weeks back because my internal was acting up and I hadn't backed up in a while.
Like a previous reviewer, I re-partitioned the thing from 3 partitions to one and it's been fine so far. Transfer speeds are good and totally silent operation.

The drive comes with a big clip on the back (which I think is silly) and a carrying case (which is okay... not space in the pounch for the USB cable however)
