RAID5 is nice, but this one is SLOW!
This review is from: BUFFALO DriveStation Quattro 2TB USB 2.0 / eSATA 3.5" External Hard Drive HD-Q2.0TSU2/R5
Pros: Supports RAID5, has USB 2.0 and eSATA interfaces, comes with a PCI SATA adapter.
Cons: SUPER SLOW!!! The maximum transfer speed, either reading or writing, I could get over USB 2.0 is 13 megabytes per second. For comparison - WD MyBook (any edition) gives up to 36 megabytes per second read/write speed over USB 2.0 on the same computer.
Other Thoughts: The speed is absolutely not acceptable for a device that costs this much. Especially if more than one process tries to access the drive, in which case the speed might drop to single digit numbers (3-6 megabytes per second in my case). I'm not sure how you can make the device so slow, considering that, say, WD My Book Pro II gives nearly 40 megabytes per second both reading and writing. I suspect the USB is to blame - probably Buffalo uses some weird USB implementation. Unfortunately I don't have an eSATA to compare.
