1 out of 5 eggsWorse drive ever AVOID AVOID

Pros: NONE - Should be less than one egg.

Cons: Worse drives I have ever owned. Bought two of them. Had critical data on them. Used both so that I thought I could be safe. Both failed about the same time after about 8 months. But they never worked well - actually. Many times the computer would not see them. Now they are finally dead. They had seagate hard drives in them. DO NOT BUY

Other Thoughts: the only thing that could possible make me soften my review is if Buffalo were to own up to these drives. At a minimum a refund - so that I can spend money taking these drives to see if the data can possibly be retrieved- I have already spent several hundred dollars trying to retrieve the data on my own through buying programs.

1 out of 5 eggsAVOID AVOID AVOID!

Pros: Good looks, multiple ports (FW800, usb, etc)

Cons: Terrible drive - fails frequently and tech support has not been able to fix after 3 times!

Other Thoughts: Drive failed after 6 months of use. I'm now on my third drive, and they fail immediately after I receive them from Buffalo tech support. DO NOT BUY!

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in ~6 months

Pros: Looks.

Cons: Failed in less than 1 year, the worst case scenario for this kind of product.

Other Thoughts: Contacted Buffalo support, but they haven't gotten back to me.

1 out of 5 eggsAVOID

Pros: None

Cons: The cons where to start i am on my third drive. Each one corrupts beyond repair after normal light use. I am seeking a replacement of another brand at this point. I do use it with a mac however this should not be the cause of the drive not showing up at all on all of its available connections. Just bad hardware the support people are supper friendly just bad product.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: It works. I needed a big back-up drive with 1394b and eSATA. This Buffalo drive offers both. I haven't tested the eSATA connection (yet), but it transfers files nicely via 1394b. I reformatted to NTFS to handle big Ghost files. In every other respect, plug and play.

Cons: This isn't much of a negative, but I'll mention it anyway: the drive has narrow feet, feels top heavy and looks like a glancing bump could send it toppling over on one side. This is the fourth external back-up drive I've owned, and the worst by a margin as far as stability-on-the-table goes. Not that big a deal to me, but worth knocking off one egg.

1 out of 5 eggsdrive is trash

Pros: I own 2 of these drives. The first one I've had for over 2 years. Best hard drive I ever owned, so when that one filled, bought another one in February this year.

Cons: New drive died in less than 6 months.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if it's a QA issue, but something's different. The newer drive looks the same as the old, but it even sounds different from the old one when it was working. It worked fine for about 4 months, then it would just randomly disconnect itself during large file transfers or even just idling. Drive is trash, don't buy.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Price, footprint, Firewire 800

Cons: Warm

Other Thoughts: Works great as a Time Machine on my Macbook Pro. No problems or issues. Fast, and quiet.

5 out of 5 eggsBig and fast

Pros: Large capacity, lots of interfaces. I have traveled with this for several months now. I produce TV so I beat the heck out of it. I use the eSata and USB interfaces. So far it has been great. I will more of these.

Cons: Physically large drive and power supply. It barely fits in my bag it is so huge.

Other Thoughts: USB 3 is not supported by this drive. Contrary the other reviews I can really get this united heated up to a nice temperature for cooking.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Hard Drive

Pros: Great drive, relatively high transfer speeds for USB. All the computers I've used it on have been able to recognize it without a problem. I haven't used them yet, but the firewire and sata ports are a nice addition.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Make sure if you plan on transferring any files bigger then 4gb that you reformat the drive as it is formatted in FAT32 by default.
