5 out of 5 eggsGreat NAS

Pros: This is the second Buffalo TeraStation I have owned. I configured in RAID10 and it has never once had a problem. I have a second Buffalo two drive that backs up this one. I have never had to deal with Buffalo customer service so I can't comment on that. I would recommend this product. Also, I was concerned when I went to purchase that the drives were not intact when shipped. Mine was well packaged (seems like they fixed the drive shipping, packaging issue) with no drive issues. I have owned for almost a year without one error or issue.

Cons: None, I would buy another.

1 out of 5 eggsAttrocious customer service... worst in industry

Pros: None. Will be returning this unit.

Cons: Every interaction I've ever had with Buffalo's customer support has been terrible. The last one regarding this new Terastation was the worst.

NFS DOES NOT work on this device. We just got off the phone with the Buffalo tech support. He said tech support doesn't support Linux clients. (So what is NFS good for?) When we started talking just about NFS, he chuckled and said "good luck." When we asked why, he said it doesn't work all that well. Then we asked him what specifically doesn't work well and he hung up on us.

Typically awful support from Buffalo. I've yet to have a remotely pleasant interaction with them. (For comparison, they are worse than dealing with Charter.)

Other Thoughts: Avoid this company.

3 out of 5 eggsWeak Design good Functionality

Pros: Unit has worked flawlessly since getting the drives straightened out and the set-up was easy. Used to backup a server.

Cons: As stated previously the backplane is weak and it arrived with the drives not engaged and the mount bent. I had to straighten out the mount and work to get them engaged since the supports are not precision for the drives. If you want to swap out the drives regularly I would buy another unit.

Manufacturer Response:

CentexHokie,
Thank you for review. To address the concerns about shifted drives we have revised the way the unit is packed. The new inserts will help keep the unit from being damaged during rough shipping scenarios.

please email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks

1 out of 5 eggsDrive 2 & 3 not Secured - TWICE!

Pros: Good Features for the price.

Cons: Could not even start testing because Drive 2 & 3 were not secured when we opened the box only to find out that Bay 3 was damaged in the back (probably from the drive not being secured during shipment) so I could not get the drive to seat. Had to send it back. Funny thing the replacement unit also had Drives 2 and 3 unsecured and part way out when we opened the box. however this time it looks like there is no Damage to the Backplane of the device as both drives seated fine. Now I can start playing with it and see if it is working or if I have to send this unit back also....

Manufacturer Response:

Choston,
Thank you for your detailed review. We have addressed this issue and have changed our package inserts to keep the unit secure and safe in case of hard shipping scenarios. I am sure that you will be happy with the performance and features of this unit after it is up and running.

please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns

thanks
