4 out of 5 eggsEasy setup

Pros: Very easy to setup up out of the box. Up and running in about 30 minutes. Also runs very quite.

Cons: This is the third Buffalo unit that I have owned. The problem is that I have never been able to get the web access to work. I have contacted tech support but they were less than helpful. It would be a nice feature if you could actually get it to work.

Other Thoughts: Nice unit for the money. For the most part, Buffalo makes quality products.

5 out of 5 eggsVery easy setup out of the box and reliable little system

Pros: I bought this to replace a dying HP Home Server that was primarily just being used as a NAS anyway. I have this for central storage for home and work, mapped as multiple drive segments, accessed by a Windows Desktop, a MacBook Pro (using Time Machine), an iPad, and two Android phones. It also serves as my central iTunes Library storage. It's been *very* reliable.

The administration pages includes way more features than I have the current knowledge to use, but it was quite straight forward on the basics and provided enough to make it pretty clear about each part so I could interpret if I used it or if I could safely turn something off. (I'm not a hardware/networking beginner, but mostly been involved in basic PC troubleshooting, not setting things up network devices from the beginning. In this area, I can interpret information given the context enough to serve me and otherwise, I know just enough to be dangerous, so I usually avoid such a task without assistance. I got through this device setup on my own, short of one question about a service I couldn't determine as necessary or redundant.)

Cons: I've had no issues with the system over this first year. (Knocks on wood).

Other Thoughts: I would definitely buy a Buffalo product again and would recommend this to someone looking for a Home/Home Office NAS system.
I do not use any streaming connectivity or try to use it for publicly hosting any files for others to access. I cannot give feedback on its performance in those roles.

1 out of 5 eggsSerial number locked out of Utility to setup unit.

Pros: Maybe it works when you get it setup? I don't know because I can't find it on the network because Buffalo won't let me download the navigator software to find the unit without first entering a serial number which I have no idea where it is.

So I can't get it setup due to their paranoid behavior.

Cons: I can't even get it working because Buffalo has literally locked up all the information and software utilities I need on their website by requiring a serial number just to get the required software to setup the unit.

I am trying to find the unit on the network and I go to the Buffalo website and they are demanding a serial number just to get the utility needed to find the unit on the network.

If I could access the web admin, I could probably find the serial number there however I can't get to the web admin without the navigator software which first requires me to input my serial number in some kind of 1984 big brother type of monitoring program.

Which brings us to a catch 22 type situation in which they require the serial number to get the navigator software but I require the navigator software to get the serial number.

The software only works for their buffalo products yet they are acting like people are going to be using it for other RAID systems or something. I don't know what the problem is but I don't not have time to play these games and I will let Buffalo know in the reviews how I feel about them doing this.

Other Thoughts: Stop locking people out of getting the software needed to setup their Buffalo Terastation.

You are only angering your customers. I might have given the product a good review if I could get it setup without running into this artificial roadblock of requiring a serial number to get basic setup software.

Bad decision.

5 out of 5 eggsBUFFALO TS-XE8.0TL/R5 8TB Works Gr3at

Pros: It was easy to set up and to get working with all 8 of my computers. Wired and wireless. Like the auto switch for truning off when all the computers are truned off on the network. Seems quick and easy to use also.

Cons: None I do not normaly give compliments to products unless they WORK.

Other Thoughts: Wish I had done this before. First thing to do is print out the user manual. All the answers are in there.
