5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Works just as it should with my Late 2011 MBP 13"

Cons: Not bare and you have to format it. This is the only drive That I have had this with, and I do not like it. But it still works fine.

1 out of 5 eggsBackup utility?

Pros: Just regular external hard drive

Cons: The backup utility does not work. at the step of 4/7, where it is asking for a destination of backup, drive is not found.

Manufacturer Response:

sorry for the issues you are having trying to setup your backup. If your backup utility can not find the drive then your PC is not recognizing the drive. you can either have an old driver for your USB port or the cable or drive could be bad. send me an email so we can trouble shoot.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I purchased this little bugger about 7 months ago for daily use during office hours and travel (as a work drive) and it has been nothing but a reliable partner to me. It boots up fast and operates quietly. I back it up every month to prevent data loss in the event it gets stolen or damaged.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I seem to be running out of space by now ;) But that's due to it being such a handy drive that i've included movies etc. for travel and that consumes a lot of space.
So..back to Newegg for another one (USB 3.0 this time)

4 out of 5 eggsDecent, for the price

Pros: High capacity, pretty quiet, slim size.

Cons: It sometimes has trouble starting up. After plugging it in, it'll rung for a few seconds and shut off; then run for a few seconds than shut off. Switching USB cables or ports usually works, then it runs fine.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I do recommend it. For the price, it really cant be beat.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Small and quite and runs cool. Mini USB connects from the corner which is more convenient for me. I bought this for the unparalleled reliability of the TeraStation products and this MiniStation does not disappoint. I have it partitioned in 3 drive 1 for my MAC TimeMachine backups, one for Windows NTSC, and one in FAT for both Win/Mac. When plugged in, it's recognized every time.

Cons: Shiny finish scratches easily. I wish the rubber feet would do a better job of keeping it from sliding.

Other Thoughts: I small simple leatherette case would have completed this kit nicely. It would keep the scratches at a minimum and also have a place to store the cable.

2 out of 5 eggsSomewhat Dissappointed

Pros: Small, lightweight, cool, and quiet.

Cons: The first one was DOA, after an hour of trying to get it to work, I requested a RMA. (Newegg handled that flawlessly!) The replacement does work, however, I had to reboot my pc and use XP to reformat the drive to NTFS - the Buffalo software for that could not recognize the drive. The device does work and I have done an automated backup without issue. However, I must unplug the device everytime I reboot my pc or my pc will not boot. Reconfiguring the Bios did not help as suggested by Buffalo. This is stated in the user manual that this device may cause a pc to not boot. I'm still 50/50 on keeping this device. Based on my experience, I would not by this product again. Looking at reviews for similar devices, there really isn't one that stands out in the crowd. My next purchase for a device like this will be at a local retail - paying the retail price is a trade off for being able to return the product for a full refund without a restocking and return shipping fees.

Other Thoughts: USB cable should be longer. I'm not sure about the speeds, because I use this as a simple backup device which is done while I'm asleep.

Manufacturer Response:

Moofish, (great username btw)
please contact me so we can try to trouble shoot your device. I am guessing the reboot has to do with your PC and not the device. (I rarely blame the users PC but I think it might be the case here). This drive is a simple drive with no virtual partitions. try doing a full shutdown then then start backup. see if it works. many PC BIOS don't do a great job rebooting. Furthermore, you can try shutting down, remove your power cord (kill any flea power). then reconnect the power cord and repower up. in both tests leave the USB HD connected. If in any of those 2 tests the drive fires back up then there is a issue with the reboot stack of your bios. other wise we can check on other things.
