Buffalo DriveStation Duo USB 3.0 is also backward compatible with USB 2.0 enabled desktop computers and notebooks.
  • newegg TurboPC Utilizing the high speed RAM of your Windows-based PC, TurboPC can increase file transfer rates by up to 50% over competing USB 3.0 hard drives.

  • newegg Buffalo Tools A feature-rich software suite is included to boost PC performance and enhance your digital life. Buffalo's Backup Utility automatically backs up your Windows PC. ECO Manager conserves energy and reduces battery consumption by regulating the power usage of the hard drive, cutting power to the drive during extended periods of inactivity. RAMDISK allows you to create a RAM disk on your Windows PC which creates a small, but extremely fast environment to work on files in. SecureLock provides complete control of the data encryption on your Buffalo external hard drive, providing password protection and software data encryption.

3 out of 5 eggsFast File Transfer, but bad RMA Process

Pros: 1. This drive is easy to setup.
2. The Raid Utility makes it easy to manage the array.
3. Excellent file transfer rate.
4. If the DriveStation dies, you can remove one of the hard drives and connect it internally to your PC or using an external enclosure and recover the data.

Cons: After about 2 months, the raid utility showed that one of the two hard drives had failed.

When I called Customer service, they told me that I had to backup my data and send the whole DriveStation to them. They would test it and then send me a refurbished unit. I asked why they could just send me a hard drive, they said that is not how the warranty works.

This would mean that I would have to purchase a 2tb hard drive so I could backup my 1.5Tb of data, send in the unit, and then wait for them to send me a replacement. Unless they overnight a replacement and their testing takes no time, it seems like it would take 2 weeks for this to be fixed. This is a very inefficient process.

Because I would have to backup the data to another hard drive anyways, I just went and bought a new hard drive, replaced the bad hard drive, and the raid utility repaired the array.

Other Thoughts: Other than the bad RMA process for the bad hard drive, I have had no other problems with the Device.

If Buffalo can streamline their RMA process, this is a great drive.

1 out of 5 eggsFan D.O.A.

Pros: Fan was dead on arrival. Called tech support to see if maybe it was heat sensor activated. Tech support said yes. Asked for documentation to support that, they didn't have any. Fan was just not working. Had to send it back after loading all my data. This drive was to replace another Buffalo drive that had a fan failure.

Cons: FAN DOA, Tech support lied.

5 out of 5 eggsSweet

Pros: I rarely write reviews, but this drive deserves one - it's sweet. I added a USB 3.0 card to my rig and hooked this up. The raid set up software works without flaw, the drive is cool, quiet, and looks great. I'm using it to capture video and set it up with Raid 0. I'll get a second and set that one with Raid 1 to store the captures.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Be sure to reformat to NTFS. The drive comes FAT formatted.
