1 out of 5 eggsPoorly designed, Support team based in America but limited staff

Pros: The price is right. A 24TB NAS for <$3,000.

Cons: Poorly designed interface that never really works the way it says it will. A lot of commands error out but then you refresh and they actually took. LAN 2 NIC appears to be DOA. Have followed every direction to a T and unit still does not connect to Active Directory domain.

Other Thoughts: I've had two support calls trying to get this resolved. Both of the tier 1 guys were based out of San Antonio and very friendly and tried to be helpful. However after an hour of troubleshooting the first guy had me update the firmware and call back. I updated the firmware but it didn't fix anything. I had to then wait on hold for 45 minutes before I got through to the next guy who couldn't figure it out earlier and escalated to tier 2 who is supposed to call back in a few hours time. This is all just to connect the thing to an AD domain!

AD objects must be setup as if they are a Pre-Windows 2000 device with all sorts of custom things setup. Buffalo should be ashamed of this product, very poor implementation.

All this and I haven't even gotten around to opening ANOTHER ticket because LAN 2 isn't working.

Manufacturer Response:

TechOps, I apologize that you have not had resolution on your problems yet. Please reach out to me so we can troubleshoot your device. This unit works well in an AD environment but since it is Linux based there are a few steps you need to do. To make AD integration easier, we do have a video that will walk you through this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lBwe6oBwXU .

thanks

3 out of 5 eggsGood drive with issues

Pros: A Large drive with several RAID options that are easily configured through a web browser. Can be configured into multiple arrays. Good customer service.

Cons: Due to an unresolved firmware issue RAID 10 will not work with more than 4 drives. Using 6 or 8 drives will only report 5.7 TB available for use. -2 eggs for not testing all configurations.

Other Thoughts: Buffalo if working on this issue, in the mean time if you need a redundant 12TB array use RAID 60, that will work.

5 out of 5 eggsBEST NAS DEVICES!!!

Pros: Has more features and functionality than most will ever need. Nice to have though!! Great user interface! Works very well!

Cons: User interface can be sluggish at times but once everything is set up you shouldn't need to be in it too often.

Other Thoughts: I would highly recommend any business looking for a new storage solution that can be highly redundant and scalable to check out Buffalo Technologies NAS devices!
