1 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Well, nice when it worked.

Cons: They use WD Caviar Green drives in this NAS.

If I buy this drive myself, it has a 3 year warranty. Buffalo gives this unit (and the drives inside) a 1 year warranty.

2 out of 5 eggsCroaked a couple months out of warranty

Pros: Great space when it worked.

Cons: Purchased 11/24/2012, stopped working 2/05/2014. RAID degraded, one drive was bad. Emailed Buffalo tech support three times on their web site and received nothing back. Nothing. Not a thing. I spent $450 on this and now have a paperweight. Sure, I can buy another drive and try to get the RAID rebuilt, but will that work? Dunno, I was hoping to ask their tech support. Which drive is 1 and which is 2? Dunno ... I was hoping to ask tech support.

I don't know the number of hours on this, but it was few .. I used it as a backup to my backup, so it was on maybe a couple of hours per month ... not operated as a true NAS with a lot of hours. Bummed ... in 30+ years I've only had a few drives croak on me .. most become too small as data needs expand and are no longer used.

Other Thoughts: WD Green drive inside. Easy access to the drives. Fan to keep things cool. There is a lot to like about this NAS, but tech support is not one of them.

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't last a year. :(

Pros: Access to it through the internet is easy once set up. Setup is easy for beginners and can be more complex (read: varied usernames/passwords, different access level to different folders.) very easily.

Cons: Didn't last a year. In fact it lasted 6 months. Had to power cycle it in the 6th month 3 times. It doesn't show up in Win 7/ power cycle/ shows up for a couple days....then repeat.

Other Thoughts: I hate leaving bad reviews because almost all the stuff, including the computer I'm typing on, I buy on NewEgg is great. But....

I bought this because I lost a ton of stuff that I stupidly didn't back up. I thought this would help me. After I bought this I backed up to it every night. After 6 months it wouldn't show up in my Win 7 network like it should. I don't know if they include hard drives that fail after 6 months or it's the unit that's not up to par but to use this as a back up is not a good idea.

1 out of 5 eggsReally? Not even 3 weeks to a dead HDD

Pros: It set up easily and seemed to work great.

Cons: I purchased this through Newegg on 10/1/2013. Today is 10/18/13. This had been deployed in RAID 1 (thankfully) at my office for about 2 weeks when I start getting these email notifications:

HDD error occurred
Disk(s) the error occurred:"Disk 1"

(sda) WRITE sector:2929010872 count:2
Disk writing error
Some data may not be recoverable.
Immediate change of disk is recommended.

Uh oh.

Other Thoughts: I'd expect to get more than 2 weeks before I get an HDD failure. If I'd done JBOD or RAID 0 I'd be missing data. Time to find out about getting it fixed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Product

Pros: Very easy tio set up, right out of the box, Install software, then connect drive, Coping 4 TB of movies took a day and a half, but ran smoothly. Intend on buying a 2 drive soon.

Cons: None, works as expected.
