1 out of 5 eggsFrustrating & Horrible NAS Drive

Pros: 2 TB is alot of space for the price.

Cons: You get what you pay for...I bought this NAS drive for my small business and it's been an extremely frustrating and horrible experience. For starters, the mobile application was built by a 3rd party developer and Buffalo couldnt provide any support. The design, UI and usability is horrible and very slow. I was happy WHEN and/or IF remote access was available. When traveling, I prefer to back up my files on DVD or flash drive rather than attempt to access. After countless calls to support and making adjustments to my port - It still doesnt work with Windows 8 and barely works with Windows 7 --- only my Macbook experience consistent access. Buy from another brand that has better remote software and support.

1 out of 5 eggsFrustrating

Pros: Cheap

Cons: No "function" button very frustrating if you have to restore to factory defaults. Buffalo NAS Navigator can find it, but can't actually talk to it. Perhaps there is a way to restore it, but if you can't find it after a few hours of googling then the product is bad.

Other Thoughts: cheap, but what you get is cheap

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth it

Pros: Work initially. Software was easy to set up, including the backup software.

Cons: Became unrecognized after about 2 months.

Unfortunately I let it just sit for several months and it passed its warranty period. So no RMA for me. Thankfully I never set up too much to be backup or use this drive.

Save your money and/or buy another unit!

3 out of 5 eggsNAS... and only NAS

Pros: The system is highly customizable and configurable for any type of network. Works very well for NAS and media streaming alike, easily streaming audio and video to 3 different devices without as much as a stutter.

Cons: 1st one died. Needed to RMA less than 2 months into ownership upon a reboot after a firmware upgrade. And although Buffalo was fast in their responses to my support ticket, they certainly use generic responses, asking me to push reset buttons that just do not exist on this particular model. The "cloud" function is extremely unreliable. At best I Am able to access it for an hour or so before the interface becomes so unstable it will start to time-out so frequently that the web access is entirely unusable.

Other Thoughts: I thought i had trouble due to the structure and settings of my home network. After configuring the nas and router to the recommended settings, I quickly found that the instability is caused by the buffalo nas web interface. The communication between the unit and the buffalo web portal become so saturated that the nas interface becomes slow and unusable, DLNA becomes unstable through the ps3, although the mapped network drives do not slow down at all. While the web access is enabled, even logging in directly to the buffalo's interface locally via IP is painfully slow. The only remedy was to disable the web access all together. Once that was done, all of the remaining features exceeded my expectations of operability. (I'm probably more surprised than you are!)

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: none

Cons: Stopped working at about 6 months, fast blinking blue light and 3 emails to tech support went unanswered. I am now using a synology ds213j with two wd red drives and so far is working great, user interface is much better too, no software to install on your computer unlike the buffalo.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Product

Pros: Cheap

Cons: I purchased 2 units. First one failed 3 months ago. Second unit failed 1 week ago. Technical support made me repeat troubleshooting steps several times. RMA issue was a hassle, it took more than 6 weeks for repaired unit to arrive, . I won't send second unit for repair. I was responsible for paying shipping for their faulty unit.Very unreliable device. My client was very displeased with this purchase. I would not recommend this product. This is my first experience with Buffalo Tech and for sure the last.

1 out of 5 eggsPoor Product Poor Service Don't buy!

Pros: Inexpensive NAS device.

Cons: The unit I purchased suffers from either a firmware or hardware problem. It will sit on the network fine for days, but start copping files to it and it will drop it's connection and require power cycling to get it back up and running.

Tech support responded to the first email I sent them with a suggestion that didn't work and has ignored me since.

Manufacturer Response:

Please send me an email with your conact info so we could trouble shoot the device. You should also check your connections, it is possible that a loose cable could be the culprit.

thanks

2 out of 5 eggsGreat while it worked...

Pros: Cheap, good features, easy to use

Cons: Unit bricked less than 6 months after use. Unit is just blinking a blue light and despite having tried the TFPT and other suggestions online I still can't access the unit. I'll be RMA'ing the device, but unfortunately will be stuck with the same HDD after it comes back. Very disappointed to say the least
