1 out of 5 eggsWarning: Buffalo does NOT support againg systems

Pros: My NAS drive ran fine for 4 years.

Cons: Hi,

I had a Buffalo drive for years and its motherboard died so that its network no longer worked. You would think "no problem" just call buffalo and they will sell you a replacement part, or that you could buy a new device and then put in your disks to recover your data. After all, you bought a RAID array to protect your data.

NOT THE CASE! When a system gets "out of warranty" Buffalo no longer maintains ANY procedures for getting data off of your drives. They did not engineer my system so that there is any method of data recovery through the USB ports, and your RAID drives are not guaranteed to work in newer systems.

Even maintaining regular backups there is still usually data on these drives that you will want when you have a system failure (and you will).

Don't buy a Buffalo system with the false security that they will support your product long term. Don't buy a Buffalo system thinking you don't have to do regular (daily) backups.

I recommend not buying a Buffalo system at all after my experience. Being repeatedly told that this was my fault for not doing more regular backups by the support lead, when in fact, they abandoned support for my system got really old.

I hope this saves some of you future pain.

4 out of 5 eggsBuffalo TS 12TB NAS

Pros: Worked flawlessly. Easy to set up, transfer of data was fast, straightforward to configure.

Cons: Software (NASNavigator2) not very good. Kept popping up warning. I went to tech support and a week later have not received a response to my email. After much searching (found the answer using google, not their site), figured out the problem. NAS is slow to boot up.

Other Thoughts: Disappointed in customer service/tech support. Besides the above, I also sent another email concerning two 8TB NAS devices I have. No answer either.

Their products are pretty good, but don't count on any support.

2 out of 5 eggsNice unit for 2 hours

Pros: Small 4 bays supports Raid 0, 1, 5, 10. Web interface is nice. I am sure if the drives were good this unit would have done great. When a drive fails it surely lets you know with alarm sound and blinking red led and led display turns red.

Cons: drive 4 failed after the first 2 hours of use. I had not even had time to put data on it yet. I just got done configuring raid 5 with hot spare and setting up the web interface and poof. the spare drive croaks and clicks. I don't think there is much of a point to the key lock. It looks easily breakable.

Manufacturer Response:

Ed, sorry for the failed drive. we do use name brand, tier 1, class A drives and have a burn in period that runs up to 72 hours to help catch possible bad drives. Send me an email if you need any assistance with tech support. they can be reached at 866-752-6210.

thanks
Marco
