2 out of 5 eggsGood while it lasted

Pros: Fast and large capacity

Cons: Failed after 6 months. Would not spin up when power was applied. I was able to determine that the problem was in the HGST drive.

Other Thoughts: Tried to contact Buffalo via e-mail to get RMA number but got no response. I will not be buying Buffalo or HGST products again.

4 out of 5 eggsLarge capacity and Usb 3 Fast

Pros: Win 7 x64 seen full capacity when plugged in minus a few hundred megs. run pretty cool unless your transferring hundreds of gigs at a time , like I did then it warms a bit. It transfers smaller files very fast.
Very happy with this drive. Love the Turbo copy where you can allocate part of your system memory to boost copy speed.

Cons: The included software disk is a little flaky, but got it to install what I wanted

5 out of 5 eggsfeel sorry for u

Pros: it is a big drive. and fairly cheap.

Cons: out of stock could not order one of this suckers.

Other Thoughts: I went to school for basic computer language and pc repair.
When I see reviews like the ones I've read here. I can only wondered what goes on ur heads to post when your review does not make sense. If u want to see the whole drive use win7 x64 instead of win7 x86. You should know some basics. The other thing is that being recognized as logical drive is for your benefit.

5 out of 5 eggs> 2 TB requires GPT partition

Pros: Large capacity

Cons: No ISCSI connectivity

Other Thoughts: If you are complaining that you cannot create a partition with the full capacity then you are trying to create an MBR partition.

Do some research... Read the user guide, search MFG KB, use a search engine, or call MFG technical support.

Nothing worse that giving a company a bad review because your lack of competence or effort to find the resolution.

5 out of 5 eggsI'm Just Sayin'

Pros: These drives work just fine

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I have been a system builder for over 25 years and I repair my own systems and do the same for others at times. Please let me add some food for thought…

To help YCU and others in this situation, the inability to format the drive above 2TB is a limitation of either the OS (i.e., Windows XP) or the format used to create the partition table, NOT the drive. Windows XP is only capable of formatting drives up to the 2TB limit set by the MBR partition format it uses. While it will access larger drives, it can’t create them itself; thus, the need for 3rd party software if you want a partition to span the entire drive above 2TB.

Starting with Windows Vista, in order to create larger partitions, Microsoft added the ability to create a GUID Partition Table (GPT) with the Windows format utility. This allows the creation of partitions larger than 2TB, but you must sometimes direct the format utility to use that format explicitly through the options settings when doing so.

I have purchased, or referred others to purchase more than 20 Buffalo drives over the past couple of years. Those that I own have worked quite well for over two years; under heavy use. Some of them are being used on my HTPC network and are worked with every day. All of those I own, or have helped others to get, worked perfectly out of the box and show no signs of any defects.

I agree with Curly, to a point. It is curious why Buffalo only has a 1 year warrantee on these drives, but; they seem to be following suit with other companies such as Seagate and Western Digital whose warrantees have fallen over the past several years from 5 to 3 and now average between 2 or 1 year depending on the model purchased. Yes, you can get drives from these companies with longer warrantees, but you pay a higher price for them.

Hope this helps...

4 out of 5 eggs@YCU

Pros: The reason you could only see 2TB in the drive is that it was formatted NTFS, which only supports partitions up to 2TB. The remaining 1.6 would have been left over to be formatted as a new partition. Only Windows Vista and above support GPT partitioning, which supports larger than 2TB volumes.

Cons: Please don't rate a product bad because of your ignorance.

3 out of 5 eggsEntire drive was not recognized

Pros: Plenty of storage. perfect for multimedia storage.

Cons: When I deleted the partition that came prebuilt, Windows disk manager treated the unallocated space as two separate drives. 2TB and 1.6TB (which is normal) for some reason I could only use the first 2TB of space. the other part wasn't accessable nor would it allow me to create new partitions... I had to use a third-party software (EaseUS Partition Master) to create/use the other part of the drive...

Other Thoughts: Company I work for bought this for me. Might have been a fluke but I managed to access the rest of the storage space in the end. I confirmed it only has 1 3.5" hard drive. Lost eggs so people can look at the review in case they run into the same problem. It treats the entire drive as an Extended partition.

2 out of 5 eggsWhats up buffalo?

Pros: Don't own so can't say.

Cons: This could be the best drive in the world, but I will not buy something that is going to hold important data and the company will only back the product for one year. Wheres their confidence? Come on Buffalo Verbatim backs their external hard drives for 7 years.

Other Thoughts: I would invest if warranty was at least 3 years. It's not a cheap drive either. I'm interested in the small size of the 4GB External drive though. Sorry Buffalo.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Drive

Pros: This is a great drive. Large capacity, fast response time and runs really cool. Using it to back up 3D content and After Effects projects.

Cons: Price, but not enough to take an egg off.

Other Thoughts: I definitely recommend this.
