Other Thoughts: I personally believe the software is useless for it, but I might use it one day, but other wise, it'll just sit on the portable hard drive.
And this thing is small! Not big an clunky, fit in the palm on my hand, actually, it was about the size of my hand.

Pros: Small, compact, easy to use

Cons: Short cable, not worth any egg loss

Other Thoughts: I have not used the software that came with the unit, my primary use was transfer of larger files and storage of some. This unit is rather fast and works extremely well.

I have had issues with seagate on their 1tb & 2tb int drives and them NOT honoring warranty, but i got this thru another retailer for a GREAT deal and took a chance.

Pros: The product works perfectly. I use it for a variety of functions, including p2p data transfer. The drive has no issues accessing the same file through multiple programs (ie, watching a video while uploading it).

Significantly, the drive also was completely fine after the cord came undone from the USB port by accident. So far, after eight months of heavy use, it shows no signs of slowing down.

Even with heavy usage, the drive doesn't overheat. While I can feel the drive working when I place my hand on it, I've never observed that it gets too hot, no matter where I put it.

Cons: The cord is really short. You have to keep the drive next to your computer at all times. An extension cord would be nice. If you have a laptop (as I do), there's a danger of the cord disconnecting from your USB port. A bit of caution and care is required.

Other Thoughts: I used Windows 7 with a laptop. I prefer to drag and drop files into the drive. I haven't tested it with Windows Backup.

Pros: none

Cons: 1) Slow, and this is using a USB 3 port that I've used with other drives, and copying large files.

2) The cord is not only proprietary at the drive end, but very short. Of course, you can always buy a USB 3 extension cord, but it's ridiculous that you have to.

Pros: Mine has worked quite well.

Cons: It would be good to have external power source for those people using USB 2.0.

Other Thoughts: Do not be confused - - the software with this drive will NOT backup a computer. It only backs up user data. If the hard drive or SSD fails, you must reinstall Windows or OSX and all of your programs from another source - - if you have one. All of your settings and preferences will be lost too. In addition to this product, you need to make an image of your system.

Pros: - 500 GB external storage, accessible via USB 3.0 interface (internally 5400rpm 8MB cache SATA 3.0 Gbps drive)
- quiet, reliable, relatively fast (over 80 MB/sec sequential read over USB 3.0, over 109 MB/sec sequential read over SATA 3.0 Gbps)
- very solid construction of external enclosure and shock protection
- a hard drive that was constantly moved between home and office and survived all the trips without losing data or worsening mechanical contact between cable and enclosure
- includes free software for Windows and Mac to make backups to a public storage cloud

Cons: - requires careful disassembly of enclosure to allow connecting over SATA 3.0 Gbps interface; this was only needed when connecting the drive to any machine that did not have USB 3.0 interface
- warranty could be longer - the drive still works though, no bad sectors or other media or mechanical defects

Other Thoughts: It could use an external eSATA connector for a few dollars more.

I tested this drive extensively for many months as a Newegg EggXpert and must say that quality of Seagate hard drives exceeded my past experiences.

Pros: None.

Cons: Drive failed to mount.

Other Thoughts: My PC would not recognize this drive except for one time when I was chatting with Seagate customer service. It worked long enough to install the software, but never worked again after that. Now Seagate is making me pay shipping to send it back to them to replace a drive I was never able to use, because Newegg's 30-day return period had expired. Not impressed. Hopefully the next one will work.

Cons: Not getting super speeds every time, but I suspect that's due to my laptop's internal HD being slow.

Light just stays on and doesn't blink like i said cant say if its a pro or con, no big deal maybe. and I noticed after a while that it actually keeps slowly going dim n bright if you are looking from connector side... so the point is, you cant just look at HD and say its busy or not. nothing much.

Other Thoughts: This was a great gift for my father who could easily fit all of his songs (a LOT of songs) on this, so he could easily transfer them and store them... this was a real space saver when it came to storing CDs and such.
