4 out of 5 eggsfast, but noise

Pros: I got Back up Plus 4 TB yesterday for $135 on sale. I use HD TUNE to test it, which has 5900 rpm. it has 130mb transfer rate per second during the HD TUNE test. In the real world, I use it at my laptop's USB 3.0 to transfer 10-15 GB files- 10-20 movies. The average speed is 78 mb. It's twice faster than my hitachi hd725050gla360.

Cons: I experience that the drive is noise. when I open a folder from the Back up Plus, I hear two "clicking" sound. when the drive spins, it is much noisier than my western digital external drive, which I bought 1 year ago. I can hear the spinning sound from 5 feet away. The "clicking" sound is much noisier than spinning. I currently use 4 drives, the Back up Plus 4 TB is the noisiest drive. its sound is as high as my 7 years old drive. I don't understand that why it is so noise. bad drive? I don't know right now.

Other Thoughts: anyone can help with the noise? I appreciate it.

4 out of 5 eggsBackup Plus 4TB

Pros: Quick delivery, ordered it on a Friday and got it the following day. This is the first time that I've had an item delivered on a Saturday. The drive is a ST400DM000 CC51 firmware. Benchmarked it using 100 read/writes using 50Mb file size and it came out 138 Mb/s read and 129 Mb/s write using USB3 on a Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 motherboard with 16Gb of RAM running linux. Ran s.m.a.r.t. long and conveyance tests on it which it passed.

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: Haven't put anything on it yet, just doing a 7 pass random data wipe of the free space to see if any sectors fail. I've had a Seagate 1.5TB fail on me with the click of death.

1 out of 5 eggsSpeed is Not equivalent to USB 3.0

Pros: Large Capacity

Cons: Slow transfer speeds across USB 3.0 cable and Port.

My Port and Cable were verified with another USB 3.0 drive I have, but this Seagate drive does not measure up to the USB 3.0 speeds. Averages 8 Mb/s for large files.

My other USB 3.0 devices average about 50 + Mb/s

Good con job Seagate, You got another sucker to buy your hard drive.

Name does not imply quality any more.

Other Thoughts: I guess they do not indicate the drive is very fast in the details, however, they do list USB 3.0, so I would EXPECT USB 3.0 average speeds.

The speeds this drive achieves are equivalent to USB 1.x.

4 out of 5 eggsmy second reviews....

Pros: the product is working great... so far, but still I had my fingers cross due to my bad experiment with Seagate HD in the past. The avereage transfering speed is @ 65mb/s

Cons: the USB cable head that connect to this external HD is loose so it is very POORLY CONNECTING. At first I thought that my pc was allowing the HD to fall into sleep state because it would automaticly disconnect from time to time but I had checked and confirmed of my pc's settings and then only to discovered that the USB cable head issue. I had to lightly tap on its head everytime to re-connect it. The way Seagate designed the head to be too slim therefore it does not provide a firm lock nor a secure connection. I had couple of Buffalo Ext. HD and their cable head provide a much more secure connection.

2 out of 5 eggsNot near 4TB, and weird connector

Pros: Small, light weight, quiet

Cons: Only 3.6TB formatted, the connector on the drive is a weird non-usb non-firewire non-thunderbolt connector so don't lose the cable.

1 out of 5 eggsUSB Speed Not Good

Pros: I purchased and it was shipped quickly, Thank you NewEgg.
The drive enclosure is sturdy plastic, seems well ventilated, somewhat quiet on spin up.

Cons: I had the drive running for about 3 minutes and it seemed to warm up fairly quickly for that short amount of time, guess I can only watch it. There is a small amount of vibration when you touch the case, neither of these are a huge deal though. The big disappointment is the speed. I have it connected to a NetGear 1.0 GB Router, via a 3.0 USB port on the back of the router. When copying from my desktop, the best speed I can achieve is 8.27 MB/s, I am sorely disappointed in this speed, I would expect to at least beat my USB flash drives that reach 30 MB/s. This is just a complete failure for this drive.

1 out of 5 eggsHorribly slow

Pros: It works and it's cheap

Cons: This drive is terribly slow. It takes 2X as long to transfer files to this drive as it does to the Fantom drive I purchased about 6months ago. This drive is a joke.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome! Excellent bang for buck!

Pros: This hard drive is a high-capacity high-speed high-performance powerhouse. I consistently get around 140 MB/s transfer rate when I'm moving movies and games to and from it, and it handles multiple transfers without issue. It produces very little heat, and is a lot more quiet than its predecessors, I can only hear it when the drives spin up for the first time before my laptop fans kick in.

Cons: The software it comes with is utter junk, but for someone who isn't savvy I could see it coming in handy. Additionally, I had the previous version before and if you're moving it around alot, the dock has a bad problem with the USB 3.0 port getting stripped. So, be gentle with it.

On top of that, when you reformat the gauge at the bottom stops working properly. Not that it really matters.

Other Thoughts: Definitely reformat the thing so you don't have to deal with the bloatware that it comes shipped with. If you want to backup your facebook pictures and you're looking at this device, I think your priorities should probably change.
