1 out of 5 eggsWhere to start

Pros: Great Drive with Great Speeds and cheap.... see Cons

Cons: Had to RMA first drive received because it turned on and off every hour or so...
Got the RMA'd New Drive...... SAME PROBLEM. I just took it out of the case which voids my warranty of course and put it in my HTPC. Now it runs flawlessly. I don't know what's up with these new External Enclosures but they aren't good at all. I have 3 of these Drives (Last Years Model Cases) that have been running flawlessly for over a year now. But These new enclosures are just garbage.

Other Thoughts: Save yourself the trouble and just buy the bare drive. It's running great now inside my HTPC for 3 days without issue. I've run Disc Analyzer on it and it shows no bad sectors so it has to be something wrong with the enclosure itself. Seagate needs to look into this problem as These are great drives. Just sad I had to take the drive out of the enclosure for it to actually work Properly.

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate STCA2000100 2TB model

Pros: None

Cons: Come to find out, it's a USB3 drive spinning at 5,400RPM. Really? Why even waste an engineer's time?

Other Thoughts: Don't bother buying

5 out of 5 eggsNice product, works well, high storage capacity for the $$

Pros: Easy setup, USB 3 Speeds for data transfer and backup.

Cons: Must lay the drive on it's side or risk knocking over, with a chance of drive failure. Needs wider base or small foot attachment.

Other Thoughts: I will purchase it again, for the dependable and high capacity for the money.

5 out of 5 eggsBackup drive success

Pros: Does exactly what I wanted.
The drive connected to the computer without a problem, worked out of the box, the software for autobackups was installed without incident, the speed is very good/excellent for USB 2.0 (limitation of the laptop), and the backups are available immediately. It's also extremely quiet, to where you can just barely tell it's working if you hold it to your ear.

Cons: It didn't come with a free second drive.
Honestly, the only thing I can complain about is that there is no power indicator until you connect it to a computer. The little LED comes on immediately on connecting to the computer, even though it has an external power supply... the least they could have done is make a slow blink if it's not connected to let you know it's powered.

And that's all I can complain about; it's not really a complaint.

The gauge of how full the drive is is cheesy at best, but that's not what I bought if tor... but it appears to show how "full" the drive is by vertical LED strips - right now, it's practically empty, so it shows one.

Other Thoughts: I got this for my brother and sister-in-law after having to retrieve their data from the HDD and reinstall the OS ont he laptop after a failed update put Windows 7 into a boot loop we couldn't get it out of. It's so simple to set up, I could have just sent it to them without setting it up, and let them do it... and they've got almost ZERO technical skills. (Well; when it comes to things like this, anyway.)

I glanced through the guide that came with it after setting it up... and yeah; it was that easy. :)

This is a perfect solution for non-tech-savvy people to make backups. From what I see of it, you can use it on multiple machines, and each will get an ID matching the computer name as the backup location, meaning you can keep the separate machines' backups separated easily enough. The backup location is a hidden folder, too, so no accidentally blowing away the backups.

5 out of 5 eggsSeagate 2TB model

Pros: This is a nice unit. I don't know why some complained about heat, mine has a fan and you can feel the exhausted air flowing out the top. The speed of the 3.0 is nice, the price is super nice. I would highly recommend this drive.

Cons: Not many at all, it would be nice to have a sata connection but there are options for Firewire and Thunderbolt, so I that is not a deal breaker for me.

Other Thoughts: For 89 bucks shipped for 2 TB, what is not to like?

4 out of 5 eggsDid exactly what I needed

Pros: Speed is impressive, quiet, perfect addition to my desktop.

Cons: Software is a little buggy if you use it to do your backup.

Other Thoughts: Used to migrate data from old drive to new ones. Worked perfectly. Now used to do backups, and found it also works smoothly with my Smart TV, so video files saved from PC to this one can be moved right to the TV for viewing.

5 out of 5 eggsKenneth P.'s review (below) is on point!

Pros: Kenneth noticed that the overwhelming majority of the negative posts are for the 4tb and 3tb drives, not the 2tb. drive on this page. He's correct that Newegg should do a better job with categorizing their reviews.
I went further and here's what I found: Of the 1-star reviews only 7 of 42 were for 2tb units. Of the 2-star reviews only 2 of 17 were for 2tb units. And of 3-star reviews only 7 of 19 were for 2tb units. There were also a couple of 1tb units which I counted in the 2tb area to give further balance.

In the 3-star category there are a couple of extensive reviews that you might want to read, just for detailed info, by Joe S. and Darrell. B.t.w., even with 3-stars, they both recommended this H/D.

And, remember, there are a lot more 1tb and 2tb H/D's sold than 3's or larger.

Cons: Newegg, you almost cost yourself a sale----and would have if I hadn't read Kenneth P.'s new review today.

Other Thoughts: Newegg usually gets it right. I'll bet they correct this one eventually.

4 out of 5 eggsSeagate Backup Plus 2TB

Pros: 2tb, capacity, price, reliability (see other thoughts)

Cons: poor ventilation, external cooling required.

Seagate's idiotic proprietary cable connector. two of the three Seagate 2gb external drives that i own have this horrible connector. i have to pick up the drive and wiggle it around a while on two of them to get the plug to go in.

Other Thoughts: these drives seem to work reliably IF YOU PUT A SMALL FAN BLOWING DIRECTLY INTO THE BACK VENTS.

look at the drive size when reading a review!
you may notice that the really bad reviews are mostly for the 3 & 4tb models. why does NewEgg put reviews for other size drives with the 2tb models? there is obviously a difference in the reliability of different size drives since they have different hdd's inside..
