5 out of 5 eggsEggxpert review

Pros: Small, pocketable,reliable,fast,sturdy

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: When asked to review this product I was excited as I use portable HD's over flash drives all the time and let me tell you Seagate did it right with these. I know from owning another of the line that they stand up to heavy use, being dropped slid around,in and out of pockets and plugged in a lot.
This hard drive did not let me down on speed either:
Tested using H.D. speed engine it maintained 109.6 mbps for 5 minutes but now we get to real world.
copy and pasting from click paste to off screen a 221mb file took 4 seconds for a copy/paste speed of 56mbps, a cut and paste for same file ran at 110.5.. copying from the Seagate yields a transfer rate at 57-65mbps depending on file size.
These are hard drives I don't leave the home or office without.
If you are considering one of these I would say consider no more and you will find them very impressive and so will others.

5 out of 5 eggsA Nice Drive with Good Performance,

Pros: This drive was tested using the system listed in "Other thoughts", and it performed wonderfully. At no point did it give me any problems what so ever. I moved a lot of data back and forth and the numbers were pretty consistent.

The drive itself seems to be built pretty well, it looks nice, as I like the pinhole LED.

Transferring a single 4GB uncompressed video file took about 35 seconds over USB 3.0 to this drive. That's compared to almost 2 minutes 30 seconds over USB 2.0.

300 MP3 files, totaling about 1.8GB took 55 seconds to copy to the drive.

Synthetic benchmarks went as follows.

CrystalDiskMark: 50MB

Sequential Read 107.7 / Write 102.4
512K Random Read 43.80 / Write 56.95
4K Random Read .608 / Write 2.167
4K QD32 Read .705 / Write 1.938

CrystalDiskMark: 1000MB

Sequential Read 111.5 / Write 110.5
512K Random Read 37.99 / Write 45.07
4K Random Read .450 / Write .975
4K QD32 Read .542 / Write 1.018

AIDA 64 4MB Read (MB/s)

Linear Begin 112.4 / Middle 91.7 / End 68.7
Random 91.7
Buffered 184
Average Read Access 15.17 ms

So those are the numbers I got off my drive. It easily performs on par with other external storage offerings over USB 3.0.

Overall, I am very pleased with the drives performance and I would easily recommend it for anyone's external storage needs.

Cons: Cable is very short. 18 inches sounds like a lot, until you're trying to plug it in to a full tower chassis. This is not worth docking an egg since it's going to vary from person to person and depend on how it's being used, and where.

I have not had the drive long enough to attest to the durability of the cable or to the connection on the drive itself. It's seems pretty solid, but only time will tell. I have used other Seagate external drives that use the same connections and I have never had an issue with any of them.

Other Thoughts: Tested under:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64
Seagate 600 Series 240GB SSD
AMD FX-8350 @ 4.5GHz
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
16GB A-Data DDR3 1866

Files were transferred to and from this external drive, via an internal Seagate SV35.6 Series 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s HDD.

In closing, I have only good things to say about this drive. It works, it's nice and fast, and I am happy with it's performance.

5 out of 5 eggsStill running

Pros: 750gb
USB 3, doesn't require external power
I've had transfer speeds up to 120 MB/s with a normal hard drive
It's lasted a year so far.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I like to open up external drives to see what brand of hard drive is actually in the drive... This one has a Samsung drive in it.

2 out of 5 eggsWorst drive ever

Pros: Lasted about a year. Worked great until it died.

Cons: Get a WD drive, it has lasted 4 times longer. Seagate used to be a top product but they have gone downhill. BIG TIME!
