1 out of 5 eggsCheap!

Pros: These drives make great bookends, paperweights or door stops.

Cons: I have had three of these drives fail in less than six months. Fortunately they were still under warranty, but what a hassle! I've even replaced the replacement! Spend the extra money for an Enterprise drive.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I purchased 12 of these to put into an IBM EXP3000 JBOD and received zero bad drives. Even more, none have failed within the first year.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I only wish I could have bought the slightly more expensive 3TB drives or the fast-falling price of the 4TB drives for more space, but my JBOD wouldn't support higher than 2TB.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: none

Cons: Ordered 4, all 4 were DOA. They were recognized by whatever SATA controller I plugged them in to but they would not function beyond drive identification. Seatools indicated Test Code 6C9AC2A4, unable to repair.

Other Thoughts: 4/4 DOA on an Enterprise drive!?!? I verified the failure on 4 different machines using 4 different controllers. I still can't believe it.

I bought 10 Seagate CS 3TB drives a few months ago and had no failures and would have used those again but the machine I was planning on using these in couldn't handle 3TB drives.

3 out of 5 eggsFYI: These are 512e drives

Pros: Seem to work fine except for the compatibility issues 512e drive have

Cons: It is not mentioned anywhere on the site, and I have to look at Seagate spec sheet to confirm, that these are 512 byte emulated drives. This means that there is a performance hit of about 30% according to Microsoft and they are listed by Microsoft as incompatible with Hyper-V (I can confirm that as Hyper-V 2012 would not let me import a VM onto these drives giving an error that said the physical sector size is not compatible). This probably doesn't matter to a lot of people, but given that they are Enterprise class drives it is worth noting if you plan on putting these in a server or plan on running Hyper-V or XP Mode.
