1 out of 5 eggsWorse than I thought.

Pros: 3TB of Space, decent size, doesn't get hot.

Cons: Firmware is horrid, very buggy and prone to problems. Support is non existent.

If you find a deal on them that is cheaper than just a regular drive buy it, crack it open and take the drive out and throw the rest of the unit away.

Other Thoughts: I purchased 3 of these drives on a single order on 9/9/13.

One of them didn't want to stay running, turned out the power plug which is extremely small (3.5mm OD) didn't seat firmly in the socket. I tried it on another one of the drives and it seemed to work. So I installed the products.

The only firmware I could find for over a year (1360311), which was NEVER detected by the auto update system, had some serious flaws. For example once set the DNS servers could never be changed again. Even using DHCP it continued to use the first DHCP assigned ones and even changing to static settings you could never change these.

There is no way to do a software reset. There is a rest button on the bottom but it doesn't seem to do anything. Tried holding it down before turning powering it on, held it for about 5 minutes. Nothing changed. Tried holding it anywhere from 30 seconds to several minutes while it was running, nothing.

The power button on the back has never worked. Not with stock firmware, not with 1360311 or with 1400319 (which also isn't detected as an available upgrade within the unit).

The software interface is extremely slow to respond. Often times it will simply stop responding all together, even though the unit still shows up on the network and you can access it via FTP, SMB, etc.

Since the power button doesn't work the only way to restart the unit is to yank the power cord.

Which brings me back to the power cord issue. The one that seemed buggy is now acting up on the unit it was working on.

Back when they were new I contacted Seagate and provided them with the model and serial number for the unit. They said they would send me a replacement power adapter. They sent the wrong adapter, one with a 5.5MM OD plug.

So I just left the buggy one in place, since it appeared to be working fine on one of the units. Fast forward a year and it doesn't work on that unit any longer.

I attempt to simply RMA the non working drive only to find out these driver can't be RMA'd withing calling tech support first.

I call Seagate and spend over 30 minutes on hold waiting for tech support which tells me the 3 year warranty only applies to the drive, the power adapter is only covered for 90 days.

They inform me there is nothing they can do and transfer me to sales. Sales proceeds to tell me they can't do anything either. They tell me if it's not listed in their online store then they can't sell me one. Which of coarse there are no power adapters in the online store.

For a drive that has 2 years of warranty left they actually told me to go look at (an online retailer I cannot name) for a power adapter. Lovely right?

After hours of searching (an online retailer I cannot name) and Google I can't find a single vendor that lists the correct product. Sure I find listings for power adapters but not a single one of them shows a correct picture or lists the correct size connector.

3 out of 5 eggsFaulty micro usb 3.0 cable

Pros: Seems really fast

Cons: The drive kept mysteriously disconnecting, I feared I got a faulty drive, but after switching out the D3 station's micro usb 3.0 with another hard drive I had, it started working fine, so samsung packaged a faulty micro usb 3.0 cable.

I hope thia doesnt happen to anyone else
