1 out of 5 eggsJust got it - seems to be a return

Pros: Ordered this because of the sale price. $150/4TB works out to under $40 a terabyte. In contrast, my very first HDD from 1983 or so was $500/40MB or $12,500,000 a terabyte!!

Cons: Package obviously a return as the plastic wrap was taped shut and no dessicant pack inside. OTOH, date code of 13395 corresponds to April 2nd 2013 according to the Bugaco Seagate date decoder app, so the drive can't be too old. Just hope it wasn't returned due to not working..

1 out of 5 eggsSeagate Arrived DOA

Pros: I didn't waste time copying data since the drive was DOA.

Cons: This drive arrived DOA. Newegg runs sales frequently on this item, however the cost of returning the drive does not justify the high failure rate.

Other Thoughts: I should have paid attention to the other negative reviews. I took a chance to save a few bucks. I should have played the lottery instead.

5 out of 5 eggs4TB Seagate

Pros: I was concerned about getting this drive up and running. Not a problem. Came up quick, formatted (quick) in seconds and was ready to rock. I now have 400+ hours of HD recording storage for my HTPC. Brighthouse DVR only gives you 40 hours. The HTPC sleeps the drive after 10 minutes and wakes it up when it's needed, So - very low power usage as well.
Then I tried it in a NAS (KD20). No problems at all. I am buying 2 more for this unit.

Cons: None that I can see.

1 out of 5 eggsAnd the RMAing begins

Pros: No PROs at this time

Cons: Drive arrived DOA, worked with Newegg to RMA, waiting for replacement now. Took a chance on Seagate for the first time since they acquired Samsung HDD division. Unfortunately the Samsung quality didn't follow the acquisition. I'm hoping the replacement will work properly, else I'll go for another WD Red as I've had no problems with them.

Other Thoughts: Drive would spin up, then attempt to test the heads and make TERRIBLE noises for a second or two, then spin down the platters. Was never recognized by OS, and caused the 2 external enclosures tested to display error codes. Results were the same when connecting drive directy to 2 different motherboards.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HD for the price

Pros: This HD is great. My old HD was a 7200 RPM 2TB SATA 1 Drive. When I replaced it with this one I was a bit concenred cause this drive is only 5900 RPM but with it being SATA 2 and the extra cache it is almost twice as fast as my old drive.

Cons: Wish it had been 7200 RPM

Other Thoughts: Great drive with lots of space! For the price when compared to other 4TB drives you simply cannot complain.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat price for large capacity

Pros: Lots of storage space

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: Purchased two of these to expand my Drobo. Replaced two WD Green 2TB. Seem to be fine so far.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's the future

Pros: This thing is very fast for a 5900rpm drive. I'm not really going to go through a whole bunch of benchmarks (just a few) because others have already done that and this drive is mainly for storage of media files. My impressions are, it's fast, it's quiet, and it runs much cooler than my WD 2TB Greens. This drive blows away my 2TB greens in every way imaginable. I was actually running out of space on my 2TB drives (too many HD movie rips) but this thing will take me at least another couple years to fill. 1TB per platter, 4 platters, this is the future baby.

Idle temp: 32C

Cons: None? Seriously, there's nothing.

Other Thoughts: It even looks good, has a good weight to it. I've tried Samsung, Seagate and Western Digital. WD is overrated, give Seagate a try again.

1 out of 5 eggsBuy something better.

Pros: Nice and cheap. The drives that work, work great.

Cons: I ordered 4 of these to set up a Raid-5 array in a Lantec HX3R external enclosure. Of the four, two arrived dead would not format. I returned the two bad drives and received two more. One worked, the other arrived dead. I returned it and received another, which also arrived dead. Four out of Seven dead drives. Not very good odds.

Other Thoughts: Newegg customer service has been great. They have been very helpful in getting my issues resolved and drives replaced. So spend a little more cash and get a better drive, but go ahead and buy it from Newegg.

3 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Huge amount of storage
Cheap

Cons: Drive DOA. With as many people posting about their drives showing up DOA, I'm just returning it and going to with Western Digital. Buy it at your own risk.
