4 out of 5 eggsAll Warmed Up

Pros: I used the Seagate Hybrid Drives ST1000LM014 to replace the 750GB hard drive that came with my laptop. I chose this option over an SSD due to the cost of getting an equivalent sized drive at that time ($450 vs $99.99). After reading several reviews (here on the Egg) I was aware that it would take several reboots before the value of the hybrid partition would pay benefits. I've read that it could take as much as 10 reboots before the drive would perform. Well in my case, it took a little longer; a lot longer. It took a while before there was any noticeable benefits. In my case, about 2 months of use. Using my not so scientific method of timing the cold boot to login screen use to take about 20 seconds, that time is now half of that, ten seconds.

Cons: See "Other thoughts" as this may be an issue that just pertains to me.

Other Thoughts: Why did it give it four stars versus five? Even though the drive is performing quite well (now) on boot up, it has a tendency to get very active even when there's no particular application running that requires and I/O. This occurs even though I've disable all power saving options to limit the up and down platter rotation speeds. Plus, I'm comparing it to the drive that it replaced. That type of action never occurred with the previous drive. Still, I'm very happy with the purchase and I would recommend it to anyone that is considering a hybrid drive.

5 out of 5 eggsalternative to a Solid State Drive

Pros: reasonable price, large storage capacity, great speed due to it's 8 GB adaptive Solid State section (essentially a SSD).

Cons: would have been nice if the solid state cache (SSD) portion was a bit bigger (32 GB, anyone?).

Other Thoughts: Most new laptops (& the few desktops still being sold) will begin employing these Hybrid drives, for the best of both worlds -- both the speed of a SSD & the large capacity of a hard drive.
The fact that it is adaptive, so that over time the files you use most (a small subset of the O.S., all the programs you have installed, & your data) get stored in the 8 GB SSD portion of the hybrid drive, means that you will get the speed advantage where you need it, & the large capacity advantage for the rest of it.
If you had more money than you knew what to do with, & you had 2 drive bays available (only the bigger laptops have this), then you could install a moderately large SSD (mine is 480 GB), & a large hard drive (say 1 TB), but for the rest of the world, a Hybrid drive is the ideal solution.
Both Seagate & Toshiba have a 1 TB Hybrid drive available, but Seagate's cache is 16 MB versus only 8 MB on the Toshiba, so slightly faster access when you have to read from the hard drive portion of this storage device.

5 out of 5 eggsPS4

Pros: easy to setup and no configuration do to. just followed simple instruction from sony to setup the ps4 with new harddrive, sped up the console quite a bit also but more on the OS side than ingame, loading time are still a bit faster.

Cons: none so far.

3 out of 5 eggsSeagate hybrid Drive 1TB

Pros: this hard drive runs pretty fast considering it holds a terabyte, but that's kinda what you pay for considering its a hybrid sshd. but so far not that many complaints after 3-4 months of ownership. i recommend it when its on sale.

Cons: the only con i have for this hard drive is that its kind of loud. on my pc build the only thing you can hear is the hard drive which can be kind of annoying and i'm actually thinking of replacing it but who knows.

Other Thoughts: overall its a pretty good sshd if it weren't loud i would give it 5 stars

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible Drive!

Pros: As I would expect, it is fast compared to a standard disk. Does not take long to learn my usage patterns and move my frequent stuff to flash.

Cons: Unstable to the point of causing system crashes and data loss in my early 2009 MacBook Pro. Randomly and frequently (once or twice a week) would appear to hang my system with the spinning beach-ball mouse cursor. No useful logging after a hard reset to help figure out what the problem was. I eventually started leaving terminal open on the desktop so I could poke at the system when it was hung. Turns out the drive was dropping out and the OS was no longer seeing it. Terminal couldn't find simple things like 'ls' or 'cd'. Two weeks ago I finally gave up and switched back to my older 750GB Seagate hybrid. Everything is stable and works beautifully now. Not sure why the 1TB drive is so unstable, but it was a complete waste of time and money for me.

Other Thoughts: Bought this 1TB hybrid after being very pleased with my 750GB hybrid Seagate. The 750 was fast, stable and really helped my aging MacBook Pro (early 2009) keep up. I was looking for a little more drive space and I needed to replace a failing drive in my Dell laptop. Hoped to use the 1TB in my MacBook and move the 750GB to my Dell. It has been a miserable 6 months trying to debug the problems with my macbook. Took it half apart, checking connectors, blowing out dust, reseating memory, you name it. The problem couldn't possibly be the brand new Seagate drive. I had the earlier model and it was great. Turns out it was the new drive. It is an expensive paper weight now.

Gave it one egg because it was fast when it worked.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent PS4 HD upgrade!

Pros: Just got my PS4 recently and had to mod it somehow. Love that Sony does not make the hd proprietary like Micro$uck does. Sorry, but just think its lame to make things proprietary and gauge customers by selling those parts at an extensive mark up.

Cons: They don't make these things in 2TB yet.

Other Thoughts: Excellent mod for a PS4.

3 out of 5 eggsCould be better

Pros: Decent price. Good quality.

Cons: Only 8 gigs of NAND memory.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this as a HDD upgrade for a laptop that I needed at least 750 gigs of storage on. I obviously couldn't afford a 750gb+ SSD so I went with this. My only gripe is that 8 gigs really isn't enough for a 1TB drive. It really needs at least 16 gigs and 32 gigs would be preferred. If it had more NAND I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of these for my PS4 and a couple other laptops I have... But at this price I really cant complain much.

5 out of 5 eggsQuite good

Pros: This drive is large, fast and well priced. Gave me a large boost to my Lenovo Z575, windows 7 boots quite a bit faster, often used programs run smoother/faster as well.

Cons: Is a 5400 rpm drive, instead of 7200 as the old 750gb was, mine will not renew wei...not so much a con, just an observation really.

Other Thoughts: I had to format this drive using an add in caddy that fit the drive into my dvd drive bay, with seatools cloning was simple, and upon installing just this drive it works great. Very impressed. Drive is also the same size as the stock part in my laptop.
