5 out of 5 eggsIt works

Pros: No problems at all setting it up. Plugged it in, formatted, cloned boot drive to this one, rebooted and has worked great with no problems. The cache seems to help start programs used frequently, I rarely shutdown so reboot speed wasn't a factor.

Cons: Nothing so far.

Other Thoughts: I have it in a desktop and will have to get an adapter to fit it in a bay.

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad for an impulse buy..

Pros: Its not a bad really drive. I was searching for a SSD for my primary OS drive. I had never thought of a SSD hybrid. Boot time with Win 8 is non existent (22 seconds, I don't even see a bios screen) I'll clock with win 7, I HATE Windows 8.

Cons: Its tiny, concerned of the heat dissipation

Other Thoughts: Best impulse buy ever!

3 out of 5 eggsNot as good as it sounds

Pros: Cost effective, good amount of storage

Cons: Speed increase is marginal at best. For a program used over and over again you get an increase at the begin with rapid diminishing returns. Once the speed increase from has past I wouldn't consider the performance to be anything impressive.

Other Thoughts: I don't plan to include this drive with future builds. Seems mostly like a loss.

5 out of 5 eggsQuick little drive

Pros: Fast for cost. I could copy an image file in much shorter time than usual. It has pretty quick write speed compared to a normal sata drive.

Cons: installed this 2.5" drive in a desktop PC...the mounting screws were hard to find.

Other Thoughts: I can't wait to try my 2nd one in my laptop ;o)

4 out of 5 eggsIntersting

Pros: It didnt come DOA thank goodness. I was shocked at the size of it. (yes now i know what a 2.5" drive looks like now lol) after staring at it for like 10 minutes I switched out my old HDD which was a WD 700gb 3.5" with this, the boot up time was noticeably faster I had successfully restored my drive to this one with no problem. I did appreciate the extra space i had left on it Since my old one was 700gb and almost full.

As far as stuff like download and file transfer rates I did notice it being if anything better than my old HDD. It seems like it can run for a pretty long time I haven't run into any issues as far as the amount of time it runs. Load time as far as my games is fast.

I'm glad I did my research on this hybrid drive it was well worth what i paid for it.

Cons: None that I've seen yet only time will tell since my old drive was able to and still is running since a few years.

Other Thoughts: yea I would recommend this item to anyone that needs a HD but does not have the SSD kind of money. It's a good balance between SSD and HD. I know at some point I'm going to buy another one. This is a good product and its worth the rating I gave it

3 out of 5 eggsfirst one is bad

Pros: Couldn't tell you

Cons: DOA, and unfortunately you get to go through Seagate now for service.

Other Thoughts: Will post up a real review on both the product and the RMA process when I get a working drive.

4 out of 5 eggsWow.

Pros: This is the first hybrid drive I have had a chance to run for any length of time and actually put to use in my own computer. I have placed this drive into my Acer AspireOne netbook running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, after having cloned the old drive to it. After a few boots it has been very noticeably faster on boot times than the drive that it replaced. Seagate has a good standing with myself and my clients, I have had very few issues with their drives that I have installed in builds I have done. The drive is quiet... actually quieter than the Fujitsu that it replaced, and so far seems to run cool.
Transfer rates I saw were spot on with the specs and should not be compared to 7200RPM drives, you must compare apples to apples... not apples to oranges, this drive is intended for laptop use and as such runs at 5400RPM for power saving and reducing heat. Anyone having a system that does not support SATA 6.0Gb/s will not see these rates, this is not a fault of the drive, it is a limitation of your system.

Cons: It is hard to place any cons on the drive... longevity will be the key and of course only time can determine that.

Other Thoughts: This drive provides a very satisfying blend between SSD and HDD, it is certainly quicker then a standard HDD but in no way as fast as a great SSD. The price is a very competitive alternative to those wanting to boost performance a little but not wanting to spend the full amount for a SSD of equal capacity.

5 out of 5 eggsFits Well Between HDD and SSD

Pros: This drive turned out to be perfect for a mini HTPC that only had room for one notebook-size drive. Overall system performance feels snappy and quick. It is a nice mix of speed and storage space in a 2.5" drive. Speeds varied, but I saw them get as high as 90 MB/s.

Cons: When they are not on sale, they are still just a little on the pricey side.

Other Thoughts: Going forward, I plan to use this type of drive in any build that doesn't need an SSD.

3 out of 5 eggsChirp Chirp Chirp

Pros: I purchased three Seagate drives this month from Newegg. I build or upgrade a lot of computers. This one, the only hybrid I ordered, was defective. I installed it and powered on and it immediately started making a chirping sound, very loud, about once per second. Still, the drive began its format but about half way through started getting bad sectors and write errors.

Cons: DOA. I sent it back for a refund. I don't blame Newegg for this, they're just the middleman, but every time I have to send something back for exchange or refund it seems to cost me $10 to ship it to California. It was shipped to me from their New Jersey warehouse for free.

Other Thoughts: I think it's only Seagate drives that are susceptible to this chirping. Check the Internet on this problem (Google Seagate chirping). It's very well documented. My other two new standard (not hybrid) Seagate drives installed and initialized without this problem.

This is my second hybrid Seagate drive. The first one I got is a 500 megabyte model ST95005620AS has been working fine as my desktop boot drive for about a year now. Hard drives have always been a gamble. Whether you get a good one or a dog is really the luck of the draw.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Comprimise

Pros: - Drastically Improved boot times over HDD

- Improved load times of frequently used programs

- Runs cool

- Quiet

- Huge amount of storage capacity

- 3 year warranty

- Solid Read and Write speeds for a 5400 RPM drive

- Large cache

- Well packaged

- Vastly improved reliability over first gen hybrid drives

Cons: - Slower file transfer speeds than a good 7200rpm drive. When testing I saw avg Read times of 101.2MB/s and avg Write times of 99.9 MB/s. Not bad at all but not great

- Very slow access times for non cached Reads (17.6ns) and Writes (21.3ns)

Other Thoughts: Overall I was very pleased with seagates new creation. Windows was very snappy when installed on this hybrid drive. Boot times were improved by a good margin but it still doesn't compare to a solid state drive.

I really wish the drive was a 7200rpm hybrid. I'm sure this would have increased costs but then there really wouldn't have been any downside to this Hybrid HDD. The 5400 RPM really killed access times. Access times are what tend to make the computer feel snappy. The cached info works great but infrequently used programs may load a big sluggishly.

The drive works great for firing up my laptop on short notice and I find myself using it much more frequently for note taking because of this. Personally I prefer the speed of a solid state drive still, but this is a great alternative for someone who needs to have a large amount of data with them.

All of the issues of the original 500GB hybrid drives seem to have been resolved. I have not experienced any stuttering or file corruption even after heavy usage. It's nice to see the drive backed by a one year warranty when many drives have been reduced to 1yr.

This Seagate drive would be great for someone who needs a large amount of storage in their laptop or a media center. I would have no problem installing this drive in a future build. I think Seagate has a great product on their hands and with a few improvements could have a real game changer.
