4 out of 5 eggsHave not had any issues

Pros: I currently own 4 of these and have had them for the past 4 years. Never had a single issue with any of them. Never had any data loss. Used these as a quick fix "band-aid" for additional storage on a home server until I could get around to building a more complete solution.

Cons: They are ONLY 1.5 TB :)

1 out of 5 eggsMost Annoying Drive EVER!

Pros: None

Cons: The drive's "Environmentally smart utilities" are annoying at best. Regardless as to what system I plug this thing into, it spontaneously turns on and off, whether or not you are using it. This causes the annoying Auto-run windows and scans to pop up, which can sometimes interrupt what ever it was that you were doing.

When transferring large amounts of data, like backups of a system, the drive will turn off in mid-operation, causing corrupted files and disk errors. I don't even know how many times I've had to run chkdsk on this thing to fix it! And running chkdsk on a 1.5TB drive takes quite a while.
I wish there was a way to disable the built-in "Environmentally smart utilities," but I can't seem to. I'll probably have to remove the inner drive and use it without the external case.

Other Thoughts: Not a good drive for backing up systems, as it turns off in mid-operation.
Also, this external drive is physically HUGE and bulky! Definitely not "Sleek" as it claims to be.

2 out of 5 eggscase was bad, drive ok

Pros: drive worked fine for 6 months.

Cons: unit stopped working after 6 months.

Other Thoughts: since i had nothing to lose, i opened the case (a nightmare to open) and put the drive in a Rosewill external hdd case with a fan, and the drive has worked flawlessly for the past year.

bought the unit locally for seventy nine dollars on clearance a year and a half ago.

2 out of 5 eggsSerious Flaws...

Pros: It works... Sometimes, It's fast when it works...

Cons: It will not work when combined with certain other Seagate drives, some sort of address conflict according to windows drive manager...

1 out of 5 eggsBEWARE

Pros: Easy to connect and set up. BEWARE it is not reliable.

Cons: I had this drive for over a year. I stored my family photos, business records and music library on it. One day the pc could no longer read the Seagate drive. Seagate offered no help unless I pay them $5,000. Yes, $5,000 dollars. I lost everything. Un replaceable family photos, my business records and my entire music library I had built over several years all gone. Worst product and product support ever.

Other Thoughts: I will never own a Seagate drive again.

2 out of 5 eggsThe click of death

Pros: Fast transmission, very fast accessability. A good intermedium between hard drives. Stable for the first day.

Cons: Power cycles on/off about a minute after hearing a click. Did some research on Seagates community forums and an overwhelming amount of users refer to this as the 'click of death'. This happens about one to two times every hour.

I originally thought this was the sleep mode underneath the manager but I turned that off and it still occurs.

I am afraid to leave the files on the hard drive with a slogan like that, and may end up returning this for something else... (I'll have to find something else to move these files to...)

Other Thoughts: Like I said it is a nice intermedium, though in my opinion, I wouldn't trust this as a long term option; sorry Seagate. And if you do, I wish you the best!

1 out of 5 eggsWorked great for a day.

Pros: Fancy paperweight.

Cons: Stopped working after a day, not recognizable any more.

Other Thoughts: I have experience with Seagate's older model FreeAgent, in the 500GB size, and that external drive works flawlessly(going on 2 years). I opted for this model because of Seagates software that makes backups easy and precise. But after a day of use the drive is no longer recognized in windows.

I have inquired about an RMA, but I feel like newegg/seagate should pay the return shipping of their bad product. Given it lasted nolonger than 24houres.

5 out of 5 eggsSeagate 1.5TB

Pros: Lots of storage for little money.

Cons: Has to be plugged into a power outlet

Other Thoughts: When I bought this unit I thought I was getting a USB powered unit. Turns out it had to be plugged in. Oh well. It works great for the $$$.
