4 out of 5 eggsReally nice hard drive.

This review is from: Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Big hard drive for storing 4k video on.

Cons: Poor instructions for installing Windows on. Make sure that you install Windows in GPT format. In order to do this, you need to boot your Windows install disk into UEFI mode and format your drive into GPT and install.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend. Make sure that your motherboard supports UEFI (if you're uising Windows) before buying.

2 out of 5 eggsNot a bad drive, just not reliable.

This review is from: Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Reasonably Fast

Cons: Have had it for about a year, recently it started randomly doing "the knock of death" and I/O fails. Powering down my machine and rebooting gets it up and running again but after a few days it will start knocking again.

Other Thoughts: I only bought a Seagate drive because it was on sale, should have known better. My WDs always last much longer.

This review is from: Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Pros: nice color. It's shiny.

Cons: DOA. Windows recognized it once. It just buzzes and will not connect, now.

2 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: 4TB

Cons: Failed all memory tests on arrival. Sent in for refund. Very fast refund.

Other Thoughts: Didnt have time to get a new drive to see if that work just switched to a SSD. May of just been a bad drive.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Seagate reputation and nice OEM Package

Cons: All excited and couldn't wait to install the new SSHD drive in my new computer only to find out that it was DOA. BIOS recognized the drive, but when I tried to install Windows 10 on it, it kept making clicking sound and took almost 15 minutes to install just 1%. I removed it and RMA'd Newegg right away. Newegg was nice to take the drive back and issued a full refund.

Other Thoughts: I want to buy this drive again because of the SSHD speed and the price, but I'm afraid it's going to be bad again (according to so many negative reviews online). Would someone please tell me if you have any lucks with these of drives. Are SG SSHD not reliable or it was just me having bad luck? Thanks in advance.

1 out of 5 eggsThese are not reliable drives, look elsewhere!

This review is from: Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Large space, fast when it works, and good price

Cons: I have had nothing but issues since i got this drive, after 3 months, the first drive i recieved has started having errors, and after 3 more months it was not recognized at all by windows or the bios, so i rma-ed and got another drive and lo and behold the same scenario plays out. This time only 2 months in, the drive starts failing and producing errors that cause windows to take forever to start, even with an intel ssd as my main boot drive. As soon as i disconnect this drive, my ssd boots to windows in 20 seconds, but with this drive connected it takes 5 minutes or sometimes fails to get to windows at all. All these problems and this isn't even my boot drive

Other Thoughts: I spent 140 bucks on this dam drive and i expect it to work!!! I can't even get a dam year out of this stupid drive and i don't like spending 12 bucks on shipping each time a drive fails, just to get another failure. I'm extremely dissapointed in seagate and I'm going to try to rma one more time. If it fails again then Seagate will not see one more penny from me.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ivan,

Please check to see if there are any chipset updates or SATA controller driver updates available for your system. Try the drive on a different SATA port. Check to see if the drive is running in ATA or AHCI mode.

Please try running our "SeaTools for Windows" diagnostics to determine the overall drive health:

3 out of 5 eggsDisconnecting

This review is from: Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Works well without issue when it is connected. Is nothing compared to a SSD but seems to work slightly faster than my other standard HDs.

Cons: Continually disconnects about once every three days. Unable to tell if its a power issue or a sata issue within the drive - but it's not on my computer's end. Tried swapping power and sata cables with other drives that have no problems and it still disconnects. Will be submitting an RMA after this review.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Dillon,

2 out of 5 eggsBuggy.

This review is from: Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: High capacity. Price was pretty good for the capacity at the time of purchase.

Cons: This showed no measurable improvement over a typical HDD. Speeds for startup/shutdown were comparable but not at all faster. Same with speeds for opening frequently used programs and frequently used files.

This seemed to function without issue at first, but before it was a year old, it was causing my computer to fail from time to time. Other HDDs before and after haven't had the problem.

Other Thoughts: I should have just bit the bullet and gone total SSD for operating system and a non-hybrid spinning HDD for storage. I don't observe any benefit in going hybrid.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsLarge quiet and cool

This review is from: Seagate Desktop SSHD ST4000DX001 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Solid State Hybrid Drive Bare Drive

Pros: This drive would probably shine better as a boot drive because of the nature of its design for use with the 8GB SSD portion but I still use it as a storage drive for a large music library and all my steam games and it functions awesome. Very fast.

Cons: Would love to see one of these with a larger SSD cache, even 16GB would be awesome.

Other Thoughts: Would buy another for RAID0, although I am not sure how running these in RAID affects the small SSD part of the drive.
