5 out of 5 eggsLarge capcity, great price

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: Good price, good speeds.
The longer you use it the faster it should get as it stores the most accessed programs in the SSD.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I've been using the 1TB version for over a year and have seen faster data transfer rates than my Intel SSD. Granted it can only store a little in the SSD part. I'm using the 2 TB drive for windows 10 and it has seen SSD speeds also for opening programs. I used the 1TB for data storage and like I said, it was faster than the SSD that was running the OS.

2 out of 5 eggsStarting to show signs of failure

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: Faster than conventional drives

Cons: Starting to fail on me after only about 6 months of use as a media storage drive.

Other Thoughts: Received a message from Windows a few months ago warning me of a failing hard drive, went to Seagate's website and downloaded SeaTools. Received a FAIL message with a link to RMA the drive. I attempted a repair in SeaTools, the repair succeeded and I was happy with this drive for a few more months until yesterday when it completely unmounted from Windows in the middle of a file copy operation. Searching for the drive in windows worked to no avail and upon rebooting my system, the drive started making repetitive noises similar to what floppy drives used to sound like when you booted up a machine with a damaged floppy disk inside. Immediately powered off mid boot and powered the machine on again. All of a sudden drive is working fine again. I ran Seagate's SeaTools program again and got a PASSED message on SMART as well as the other basic tests; I am really perplexed... I can hear the heads parking occasionally and i do not trust the reliability of this drive anymore.

I am furiously trying to back everything up off of this on to my Airport Extreme's drive and am not sure if I should ask for a replacement or just chuck it and buy a different brand. Don't think I will buy Seagate drives in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Brady,

We apologize for the problems with your 2TB Desktop SSHD, as this is not typical or expected. You may want to check the power supply to the drive to make sure this is providing good power to the drive. Otherwise, we would like to talk with you to determine an available resolution.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Series of Drives

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: Inexpensive Hybrid with large cache but not a true SSD

Cons: High failure rate.

Other Thoughts: I don't recommend this product. While inexpensive, you are much better off with an SSD and a separate HD.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Peter,

We apologize for the problems experienced with your 2TB Desktop SSHD drive. We would like to talk with you to determine the root cause and available resolution.

5 out of 5 eggsSeagate Rocks

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: I am updating my review of this drive after running 24 hrs a day and 9 months since purchase:
Since installing I have updated to windows 10 and these drive are performing flawlessly. They are still quite and trouble free. The loading speed for windows is still 3 times faster than drives without the SSHD.
I am sure I made the right purchase with Seagate. And no I do not work for them.
My next buy will be the 4 TB version of these drives.

Cons: None, I have been running for over a week and this drive preforms great
Update:
9 months later and still not one Con.

Other Thoughts: Until the price (and size ) of SSD M.2`s go down, this drive is a real step up from the noise , heat and clattering of conventional drives.
I have been using Seagate drives for years and have only worn out one of them. Never had a equiptment failure yet. I feel that Seagate has one of the best drives out.
If your going to use AHCI , be sure to have your drivers ready on disk or flash drive to load when you start windows install.
I also used windows settings and file transfer to put all my data back on the new installed windows. Took a little time to save the files, but it really did work good.
For some reason my Windows image file from backing up windows would not read from my hard drive during install. I just re-installed windows 7 64 bit and then used the files and settings. Everything was there.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Speed....So far...Fingers Crossed!

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: -Good Speed
-Cheap Price for SSHD
-2TB

Cons: -Nothing So Far

Other Thoughts: I have not owned this product long enough to know whether or not I can recommend it. I have not had good luck with Seagate HDD's in the past. Enough time has passed that I am willing to give Seagate another shot, if this drive fails prematurely I don't think I will ever buy another drive from them.

I want to like Seagate drives because they are some of the cheapest/GB drive available, so lets hope this works out.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: Chose for name, specs and price. All came together to what I thought was a great choice at the time.

Cons: Worked great for about 18 months. Had two of these set up in a spanned configuration as data redundancy was not needed on this machine. Began failing one day; troubles reading/writing, extended boot times. After 2 days, complete drive failure. 2nd HDD has begun throwing SMART error codes. Very disappointed in Seagate's quality on this one.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: Its Fast, but its not as fast as they claim

Cons: It freezes up... alot. And It's an issue known to Seagate. Unacceptable

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive a while back but just put it into service 2 months ago.
Seagate needs to fix the problem or pull these products off the shelves. Do a search for Seagate Hybrid Drive freeze.
I can't use this drive as the primary anymore. Hopefully it won't lock up the whole system as a storage drive.
I've been a Seagate customer since my first 30mb MFM RLL drive

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Gregory,

Please try running our SeaTools diagnostics to determine the overall drive health:

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable drive

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: Price was the only pro.

Cons: Like other people have said it fails after using it for awhile. Mine probably had a month of actual use out of 10 months and failed. The check disk clearly showed a bad drive and started an RMA. After seeing the problems other people have had with returned drives I am going back to WD because nothing is more aggravating than having to install your operating system and programs because the drives are unreliable. I also did not see any real improvement in gaming speed with this drive.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this drive it is unreliable as other people have reported. I am going to replace this drive with a WD data center drive which are known for reliability. Seagate you have done a bad job with this drive and have lost a long time customer of Seagate drives.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsNot happy

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: Pro? It's 2tb

Cons: This is not any faster than a conventional HDD. I put this in my wife"s PC to speed things up for her and if anything, it's slower than her old one. I have SSDs in my 2 PCs, one is RAID 0, so I know what fast is and this ain't it. I didn't expect that level of performance but this is sold as a hybrid that combines SSD & HDD into one unit so it should at least be some kind of improvement. Fail.

Other Thoughts: Absolutely not worth the money, time or effort.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Doug,

We would like to note that it may take a number of reboots to notice the full performance benefit of your 2TB Desktop Solid State Hybrid drive. This will allow the adaptive memory feature to determine the data that is accessed most frequently and put this data on the high performing SSD portion of the drive.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact our support staff and we will be happy to assist further:

5 out of 5 eggsCache works great!

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: Use these in RAID 1 setup. The 8GB memory really speeds up loading of W10 and games. It is cache memory is VERY noticeable. These have been running 24x7 since I got them. No problems to date. I usually buy WD black, but have taken a chance because of price and cache memory.

Cons: Warranty length.
