4 out of 5 eggsErrors

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: One time it booted crazy fast

Cons: I keep getting indexed errors, security descriptor errors...etc Always needing to run scandisk on the drive ever since I had Windows 10 put on it. Ever since I started booting off it.. it causes other drives as well be scanned.

Other Thoughts: Strange issues. I have many seagate products but this one I don't recommend because of my issues.
I had images disabled So I don't know what I rated the product as.

2 out of 5 eggsGood Idea but SLOW

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: Cheap
Fast-ish Boot Times

Cons: Slow Drive
Nothing close to SSD-Like performance
8 GB Flash seems too small
Flash is much slower than was is used in a true SSD.

Other Thoughts: I have used standard 7,200 drives that are faster than this. My guess is that Seagate put a little slower mechanics in this drive thinking that the flash cache would make up for it. It probably does a bit, but the over all experience is an unimpressive drive.

I would be happy to pay a little more for 16 or 32GB of flash. I also get the feeling that they used low-end flash in these drives because once something gets cached, it still is vastly slower than my 840 Pro SSD.

5 out of 5 eggsStrong and Fast

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: -Fast
-Good Storage Capacity
-Stays actual at a safe warm temperature
-Doesn't have errors that I've had with my other hard drives

Cons: The larger you fill and use up the storage on the drive the slower it will get. Also defragment often.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Thomas,

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of the 2TB Desktop Hybrid drive. We are glad to read that you are enjoying the drive overall.

We just wanted to note that we do not recommend using the defrag utility on your Hybrid drive. If you defrag the drive, it may cause temporary performance problems as the adaptive memory feature recalculates the data that is accessed most frequently and put this data on the high performing SSD portion of the drive.

5 out of 5 eggsFast Boot

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: I've had this drive for a while and it performs as expected. Initial boot times are fast, once in the OS is performs as well as I need it to. The price point is also pretty good, at the time of this writing, $92 for 2TB.

Cons: I can't knock this drive for anything because it meets my expectations. Obviously not as fast as an SSD, but much more affordable, and gets me in to Windows fast.

Other Thoughts: Time will tell if there are any issues with the SSHD design in general, but Seagate is a reputable drive manufacturer, so I would put faith in to their products in this category. This thing has held up in a very compact space (micro atx cube case).

1 out of 5 eggsUnstable and Slow

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: I can't see any. It writes at about 60MB, which is slower than some 2.5" drives I have from other vendors, and it's boot times for Win 8.1 are slower than a standard 7200 RPM older Seagate.

Cons: It writes at about 60MB, which is slower than some 2.5" drives I have from other vendors, and it's boot times for Win 8.1 are slower than a standard 7200 RPM older Seagate.
And finally, it's ungodly unstable. I regularly have to do restores because of boot failures.
Slow, Unreliable, what could be worse?

Other Thoughts: Either I have a bad drive OR these drives desperately need a firmware update.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Meagan,

We apologize for the problems experienced with your 2TB Hybrid Desktop drive.

Please try our SeaTools drive diagnostics listed below, as this will determine the drive health and it will also check for any firmware updates:

Pros: 2tb for a great price. easy to install. worked right out of the box

Cons: doesn't seem any faster then my 7200rpm 1tb hd. windows score didn't improve after 3 weeks of regular usage. Rig boots and programs load just as fast as before.

4 out of 5 eggsNot too shabby

This review is from: Seagate Hybrid Drive ST2000DX001 2TB MLC/8GB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s NCQ 3.5" Desktop SSHD

Pros: Drive performed well during ownership. Boot times were very quick. Drive was quiet and didn't bother me during use.

Cons: After about a year and a half, had my first disk drive failure. Pulled the driver out and let it cool off and it was back to working in no time. Whether this is because the drive overheated or because it's just on its last legs, this does seem to be a significant issue. I do live in a tropical climate and it did fail during a time of the year when it is the hottest so those who may have similar living conditions may want to be aware of possible overheating problems.

Other Thoughts: Reasonably priced drive that serves as a cheaper solution than having an SSD and HDD running alongside each other. I have had no real complaints regarding performance and will be purchasing a second one to replace the old.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Reese,

We would advise checking the drive health using our SeaTools diagnostic utility. This will check the drive thoroughly and diagnose any possible overheating conditions that may have occurred in the past.
