5 out of 5 eggsan exceptional value

Pros: In my case, this turned out to be effectively a brand new drive. SMART data showed 0 hours, 1 start/stop when I got it. Even though it's a 5900 rpm drive with an 8 MB cache, speed tests show equivalent or better transfer rate than the 7200 rpm 16 MB cache HDD I use as a boot drive. Very low power, runs cool and quiet. Exceptional value, well packaged, virtually indistinguishable from new.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Although this drive is built for DVR use, I bought it for a backup drive in a desktop computer. It works great for that, and generates very little heat or load on the power supply. Since the drive I received is practically brand new, and works flawlessly, it represents the highest value of any disk drive I've ever purchased. Highly recommended, a real gem.

5 out of 5 eggsWorth out

Pros: Bought this for a backup drive without the invention of having it run but maybe once a week. That may change because as someone said this drive looks new. It's good to see a manufacturer actually refurbish something instead of just throwing it back out there.

Cons: None that I have found

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Hard Drives

Pros: These things have to be new. Not a scratch or blemish on them, and the SMART diagnostic information information shows zero usage on all 4 drives I ordered. These drives are fast and run cool. They are light, thin and quiet. The disks themselves were manufactured in 2012, so they are newer technology, the reason why they run cool and quiet, and why they are light and thin.

Cons: "RECERTIFIED" is literally etched into the front of the drive, and the sticker says "certified repaired" even though they appear to be brand new. I think this is to void the manufacturer's warranty.

Other Thoughts: I did a full format on all the drives I ordered with no problems. Crystal Disk Mark shows fast sequential read and write speeds.
For the little I paid for them, these are a great deal. What more could you ask for at this price, and 250 GB is OK for all but the most disk hungry users.

5 out of 5 eggsGood enough

Pros: Was cheap at about $12 on sale. Purchased 4 of these and all passed OK after testing with Spinrite. I just needed a cheap backup drive for some refurb systems that will have an SSD boot drive.

Cons: Low capacity (though enough for the low price I paid)

5 out of 5 eggs250 Gig to Clone Wifey PC

Pros: Packaging to ship this refurb HD was no nice I stuck it back into the box after making a clone of the HD in our Dining Room (wifey) PC. I noticed the drive was quiet and quick.

Cons: I can't think of any cons that I need to list but this little red box is stubborn.

Other Thoughts: That's the way I roll.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Price, If it worked

Cons: Was a very slow drive loaded windows once, then went DOA on me. Worked for less then 3 hours.

Other Thoughts: Not worth the risk spend 50-60 dollars and get a new one or a SSD

5 out of 5 eggsOEM in Dell Vostro 230 Slim

Pros: Just inventoried my computer using Belarc (inventory software), and found this hard drive is inside. Surprised that a modern Seagate should be performing flawlessly and silently. Computer is at least two years old

Newegg seems to have problems with their marketing information. Contrary to what Newegg says, the Seagate website and Belarc both report the drive is SATA600 (which means SATA-III, 6 GB/sec), and Seagate's 7000.12 generation is 7000 rpm.

Belarc says my drive is s/n 5VMV29HT, rev JC47

Cons: Hasn't been exciting.

Other Thoughts: I'm still bothered by the low quality of modern hard drives. I'd be happy with a 250 GB hard drive with 5 Eggs after 1000 reviews. They just don't make them like that anymore. Plenty of terabyte drives that die before their time.
