5 out of 5 eggsGood staff

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: inexpensive, quiet, hopefully reliable

Cons: One of 4 recently bough disks stopped working shortly after arrival.

Other Thoughts: I've bought 4 such disks for my newly assembled computer. 3 disks were configured as RAID5. One of them stopped working shortly after arrival. But it was only one failed component among all the staff I'd bought. And I assembled my computer from scratch. I'm not surprised to have 1 defective component among couple of dozens. Probably just bad luck. I've already got the replacement and it works fine. If I extend my RAID in the future I do not mind to buy another such disk.

2 out of 5 eggsMight be my installation fault.

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: No problem when my computer detect the HDD.

Cons: I plug it on a sata controller. Every time I open the computer ,I get a different detection result.
10% of the time, it get detected after Window loading. The other times it do not appear.

Other Thoughts: I use the HDD as a normal HDD at the moment.

5 out of 5 eggsflawless reliability so far

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: meets all my performance needs
have been running 4x of these (2 sets of RAID 1) for data backup / NAS for over a year, in a remote area that is hot/cold/dusty and loses power frequently (hey, at least its dry!), zero reliability problems so far. I was sure I'd have one dead by now, but they keep on spinning with zero performance degradation.

Cons: priced slightly higher than I'd like to pay, but have had perfect reliability for four of these for over a year

1 out of 5 eggsDead after a week

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Ran great as a data storage drive next to my SSD

Cons: Died Quickly, Seemed slow to spin up

Other Thoughts: Very disappointed in the quality control of today's drives, looking at most reviews from Seagate and WD, looks like they both have around a 25% failure rate. Good thing I copied my data to this drive instead of moving it.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Reasonable price, runs pretty cool, very quiet

Cons: Seagate reputation for failure rates

Other Thoughts: I usually buy WD HDD's as I have never had a failure with any of them over the years. Most of my failures have been with Seagate products in the past. However, after reading the reviews of these NAS drives, I decided to give them a try. They run very cool (90F while spinning) and are very quiet. Not the fastest drive around, but are fast enough for home storage use. No failures yet. If they hold up I'll buy two more for the office.

1 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: None

Cons: Bought 2, both died after 3 months of normal use. I would not use this in a NAS for other than a spare drive where it sits there doing nothing. Not going to bother with RMA, just going to dispose.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggs2 tb for archival storage and cooler for 24x7 use

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: 1) Exactly the size I needed and should be a good choice for a music drive for my Sonos Music system.
2) It will run 24x7 for as long as it will spin so chose the NAS model.
3) Don't need 7200 rpm for media storage and this (? 5900 rpm) should run cooler.

Cons: 1) Bare drive. Better have any needed cables or adapters.
2) Not many companies making spinners. Hope Western Digital and Seagate both hang in there.

Other Thoughts: The newer bare drive packaging with the bubble package seems superior to the older method of simply wrapping bare drives in bubble wrap sheets.

1 out of 5 eggsDead rigth out of the box

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: None

Cons: I thought this would be great for the price. I build my computer set everything up, and was ready to install windows only to see that my hard drive was not found. I shutdown checked all connections no problems there. I rebooted same thing. I then figured maybe a bad sata cable. Nope tried three different ones same thing. I then thought maybe a bad motherboard sata connector. Nope I switched the sata cables around same thing. I then thought maybe the power supply isn't working. Nope same thing. I have never had a brand new hard drive show up dead. Do they not test these things before shipping? This I the fourth computer I have built.

Manufacturer Response:
