4 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good.

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: - runs quietly
- no problems having my gen7 HP microserver recognize it
- 3 years warranty is decent
- has lasted through initial burnin and testing
- price is nice (thanks Newegg!)

Cons: 2 TB version has significantly slower sustained write speed than peer 2TB Red drives. 2TB Seagate NAS runs roughly 80-105 MB/s on my NAS, while 2TB Red drives in same system run roughly 110-130 MB/s.

Other Thoughts: So far, I'm reasonably happy with the drive at this price point. We'll see how it works over the next year in my NAS.

2 out of 5 eggsDied after 2 years

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: -Fast
-Worked as intended

Cons: -2 years later, died. No warning. Thankfully some of my data was backed up.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for.

2 out of 5 eggsdecent price but failed within 8 months

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Decent price at the time of purchase

Cons: Drive failed after 8 months of use. Seagate shows it still being under warranty but a replacement or equivalent is out of stock at the time.

Other Thoughts: Judging by platters spinning up and arm moving upon use after being idle for some time, I assume that means the arm was being parked, which is kind of odd for a NAS drive. I specifically chose a NAS drive so as to not get that feature in drive. Maybe i assumed wrong?

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsST2000VN000 is a very capable drive

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Perfect for a NAS environment. Quiet and cool with very good performance.

Cons: No cons to report at this time.

Other Thoughts: Originally bought two Constellation ES.3 drives for a two-bay QNAP. The QNAP came with a free NAS drive that I did not use and one day they went on sale. I picked up the second one and put them in the NAS and repurposed the ES.3 drives for a thunderbolt enclosure. Brought the noise down quite a bit and works great for storing music and movies.

3 out of 5 eggsNot a bad product, worked in my USB enclosured but wasn't liked by my OS in my computer

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: I have the 1TB and 2TB versions. They are not a bad deal, they are quiet and seem to run well enough if the application can deal with them. I ended up putting these in Roswell SATA -> USB external enclosures where they worked just fine and will end up using them for archive and portable temp space.

Cons: My OS of choice did not like either the 1TB or 2TB versions of this drive. Something in the firmware causes trouble when the devices are probed, either they are taking a very long time for the sata BSY signal to clear after a device reset, or it never clears at all. The end result is that in one of my systems that I tried to use these in, the devices were never probed or seen by the OS. I didn't want to muck with the source to try and increase the wait time on the probe as no other drives I have exhibit this behavior.

Other Thoughts: There are certainly applications for these. The 1TB drive, in particular, is quite small for a 3.5 inch and may fit in places where others will not.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Brad,

There is a possibility that additional drivers may be needed to allow your operating system to recognize the NAS drives. Here is a support link that offers additional details regarding this situation:

5 out of 5 eggsNice

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Quick with a lot of storage. But to be fair, this is coming from someone who just had a 5400 speed hdd! This thing obviously blows it out of the water.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Not much else to say, it's a hard drive, and it works! :)

1 out of 5 eggsThese drives need more testing before being put into any production machine

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: - i have no pros about this drive

Cons: - both windows and linux can access the drive after 30 minutes of use in the linux server it shuts off like someone pulled the power cord (supermicro mb with up to date bios firmware and intel e3 cpu ecc ram) honestly my filesystem saved my data from getting corrupted on the other running drives from these sudden outages. put the drives in had issues pulled them out no issues. never had issues like this before
- had this issue when drives were plugged into motherboard in jbod config and with zfs configured
- tried in other machine and the desktop MSI mother board machine gets stuck on post intermittently
- issues goes away when drives are removed its possible that both drives are defective or that they are too new and still have bios bugs
- there are no bios updates as of this time
- ran seatools long tests and the drives had no errors but they failed to erase themselves

Other Thoughts: - i was looking for an archival drive something that does not need to run 24/7 but can handle daily backups and function in a raid
- this drive seems to be unstable for now
- I will stick with enterprise drive and standard desktop drives
- if i need a desktop drive to use in a raid i will use HSGT desktop drives which allows you to change bios to limit tlr

1 out of 5 eggsDidn't work

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

5 out of 5 eggsGood staff

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: inexpensive, quiet, hopefully reliable

Cons: One of 4 recently bough disks stopped working shortly after arrival.

Other Thoughts: I've bought 4 such disks for my newly assembled computer. 3 disks were configured as RAID5. One of them stopped working shortly after arrival. But it was only one failed component among all the staff I'd bought. And I assembled my computer from scratch. I'm not surprised to have 1 defective component among couple of dozens. Probably just bad luck. I've already got the replacement and it works fine. If I extend my RAID in the future I do not mind to buy another such disk.

2 out of 5 eggsMight be my installation fault.

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST2000VN000 2TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: No problem when my computer detect the HDD.

Cons: I plug it on a sata controller. Every time I open the computer ,I get a different detection result.
10% of the time, it get detected after Window loading. The other times it do not appear.

Other Thoughts: I use the HDD as a normal HDD at the moment.
