5 out of 5 eggsWorking fine

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST3000VN000 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Quiet
Work well
good value

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: At time of purchase these had the right size to price point ratio. They hold lots of 1's and 0's; (no 2's)

2 out of 5 eggsQuestionable

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST3000VN000 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: The price is right

Cons: I purchased 4 of these drive on 4/27/2016 and today 5/11/2016 1 of the hard drives has failed. 25% failure rate within 2 weeks seems a bit unreliable to me. I sent in for a replacement, now to see if Newegg can get me the replacement drive before I loose another drive in my RAID config and loose all the data. Thank goodness for back-ups but still no fun to be transferring that amount of data in such a short period of time.

Other Thoughts: In the past I have used Seagate NAS drives and only had one issue after 4 years of use.

4 out of 5 eggsbuilt for NAS, good price

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST3000VN000 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: - formatted as expected
- price (got them on sale!)
- performance is on par with what is advertised

Cons: - slightly higher power draw than WD Reds

Other Thoughts: I have 6 of these in a FreeNAS box setup as a RAIDz2 and they have been doing great so far. Never had an DOAs. My server runs for 24/7 and they have been going strong for about 4-5 months at this point; time will tell on reliability but so far no complaints.

My usage case for the server is plex serving 4-6 users and general file storage for 3-4 users (mostly cold storage) with files that are accessed infrequently.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST3000VN000 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: All 3 drives arrived well packaged and in working condition, noise is not as bad as 7200rpm drives in a home environment.

Cons: a little more cache may be better?
price need to come down more

Other Thoughts: if you are running nas, this is the lowest grade nas hard drive you should get. do not use desktop drives in a nas or you'll be guaranteed to lose data sooner or later.

4 out of 5 eggsST3000VN000 drive reports temperature lower than ambient?

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST3000VN000 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Bought five drives, no DOA when received unlike the desktop DM equivalents. Time will tell.

Cons: Have to test everything I get from Seagate ASAP upon receipt. Having two different running drives report 10 degrees less than ambient is disturbing. Probably means I will not get over-temperature warnings when they fail in the NAS. The other three reported approximately ambient even after running the long generic test in SeaTools.

Other Thoughts: Concerned that drives will not be useable after sitting on shelf until needed; repacked as received, but no desiccants in packaging. (8) units in Seagate NAS 440's are between 3 and 5 years old, so consuming replacements about every 3 months.

3 out of 5 eggsLess than 3 years old, 2 out of 3 failed

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST3000VN000 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: I bought 3 drives for a FreeNAS system in 2013. Good value/price.

Cons: Replacing the second of the 3 already. They worked well when in there, but that seems like a high failure rate to me.

Other Thoughts: Not really sure if I should replace it with another Seagate. Will probably shop around.

Manufacturer Response:

4 out of 5 eggsExactly as expected

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST3000VN000 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Seems to run cool pretty cool and quiet on my topmost drive slot. 31C at rest with ambient of 30C

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Instead of shunning Seagate drives, I got some great deals shopping around, loaded up rig with 8ea 3tb and 2ea 5tb. Newegg packing is pretty good (4 of the drives from them) none DOA. I'm happy with the purchase. The noisiest thing in my PC are the fans, which aren't loud at all. I'll know in a few weeks if everything is all well and will update my review if anything changes.

2 out of 5 eggsVery disappointed

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST3000VN000 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Cheap. (got a good deal)
Quiet

Cons: Reliability

Other Thoughts: I ordered 4 of these to start a new NAS and replace my older 2 drive NAS. Haven't bought the new 4-drive NAS yet so went through Synology's drive upgrade process. First drive went in and re-mirrored and everything was fine. Put next drive in and it was DOA (already have RMA for this one). Tried another drive and the re-mirror and expansion went fine. Now 3 days later I am getting Drive I/O messages every couple minutes. Problems with 2 out of the 4 drives. Not happy!

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsSpeedy NAS drive. Relatively quiet access

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST3000VN000 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Bought this after returning a WD Red NAS drive because it was very LOUD on access. The Seagate NAS drive was slightly louder at idle (drive spinning sound) that the WD but the sound during access was barely audible above the idle noise. This was important to me since the NAS is sitting in a relative quiet home office and the WD Red "clunk" whenever it was reading/writing was getting on my nerves.

Also, this drive was faster than the WD Red though that's not really a huge issue for NAS drive. Reliability, power usage, and noise are much more important.

Cons: None so far.

Other Thoughts: For the same price as the WD Red, I prefer the Seagate NAS.
