4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: They were all AOA (Alive on Arival) they all work. Purchased 8

Cons: Its a Seagate

Other Thoughts: I only use Western Digital drives in a single drive setup, however in a raid I was willing to giv them a try because of the price point. They have not had any issues yet. Been spinning 3 months now

5 out of 5 eggsReliable Seagate

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Been running almost 24/7 for 2.5 years and no problems yet.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Of all my HDDs to fail in the past 15 years, WD is the highest fail rate, Seagate is the lowest (no fails) tied by Hitachi, but I've owned three times as many Seagate drives as Hitachi drives.

If you are going to put these in a NAS, make sure you buy NAS drives.
DO NOT USE DESKTOP DRIVES IN A NAS DEVICE.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable NAS drives

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Had 2 running for over a year now, picked up another 4 during BF sales for RAID 6. Drives passed Seagate extended tests.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Config:
6x 4TB Seagate Nas HDD RAID 6
LSI 9271-8i with cachevault

4 out of 5 eggsBought 8 and all have been spinning > 4 mo without hiccups.

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: * All 8 drives have been functioning since day 1.
* Reliable and dependable

Cons: * Not the best performer but works well as a NAS drive

Other Thoughts: Installed all drives in an IBM xServer 3620 M3 which has LSI RAID Controller. Configured one RAID5 LUN and installed Server 2012R2 Hyper-V Core on it. Also multi-role as NAS. The NAS server is sued for offsite backup and it does the job. All drives are happy ever since.

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Bone yet as I could not get my NAS up and running yet because of bad drive

Cons: Bought 2 - 1 dead on arrival - I quess all the reviews about fail rate were not far from the truth- on hold with Newegg to return them.

4 out of 5 eggs1 out of 4 was returned to NE

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Quiet
Faster than I expected

Cons: One of the four I had purchased during Black Friday sales was bad. The bad drive (one of two purchased from NE) was recognised OK but failed the Long Generic Test using Sea Gate tools even though it had passed SMART and Short Generic tests. I knew this drive was bad as it vibrated and made a constant humming noise with an occasional scraping noise. NE replaced free of charge and the replacement passed all the tests and was quiet as the other three. All drives came in individually wrapped in a ridge air-cell type wrappers which was good compared to other methods I've seen so I can't blame the packaging.

Other Thoughts: Looks like 25% infantile failure is about what you might expect with these drives. While I plan setup a raid, for now just using them as a JBOD. NE rocks.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Ron,

We apologize that one out of your four NAS drives was nonfunctional, as this is not typical or expected. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns regarding your replacement drive and we will be happy to help further.

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: none

Cons: DOA. Only formatted to 1.6 TB instead of 4.0 TB. Tried different computers and different operating systems including windows 10, 64-bit. Tried using Seagate's software. Did NOT work. None existent tech. support. RMA.

Other Thoughts: Not recommended.

5 out of 5 eggsGood HDD's

This review is from: Seagate NAS HDD ST4000VN000 4TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Bought two of these to replace my aging WD green 1TB and 2TB HDDs that I use for mass storage.
I coupled this with a StarTech USB3.0 dual drive enclosure, and both drives are running well. They're quiet, and can take some serious strain--40-50+GB continuous data transfer. No problems yet.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not 7200RPM, but I knew that when buying. Can't really tell the difference; they're fast enough.
