This is like an Ipod for your TV but GREAT PRICE!!!!!
- Pros: No matter what TV i have my ScreenplayHD hooked up to, it looks exactly the same as if the file was playing on my PC/monitor. I really love it its really the ultimate portable hard drive. Plays 90% of what i throw at, and what doesnt i can convert. If your looking to PORT a ton of movies and with room for music too, this is the best thing out yet.
- Cons: Yes, the A/V cables are kinda short but you can buy any kind of NEW wire you want from S-Video to HDMI and the power cable has decent length. The controller is kinda wierd and thin but you get used to it and the only problem I have had is the Zoom feature doesnt work, but it has all the expected and easy-to-use features. The only other flaw is that yes, it can be a little "hissing" or "whinning" if it is late at night and your playing something quiet, but if your TV is at a decent volume you wont hear it.
- Other Thoughts: I dunno how people can say this doesnt play in HD, maybe im just not that picky but if it is a high quality file it plays fine for me unless i have a bad file. Always UPDATE your firmware when you get it out of the box. This product is Slim and Sleek and seems to be very durable, i dropped my controller pretty bad but its fine, the hard drive it self it the best ive ever seen, very compact, very heavy, but its casing is very strong. Its a great little package :)
Major Disappointment
- Pros: Compact and easy to hook up to TV and computer.
- Cons: Would not play any Hi-Def video files no matter what converter software I tried. Tech support extremely unhelpful and would not suggest any converter software that would conform to the ScreenPlay file formats for Hi-Def video.
- Other Thoughts: Iomega products have never been at cutting-edge technology and this product shows it.

Manufacturer Response:The ScreenPlay HD supports only DivX 3.11, 4 and 5 encoded videos. It does not support DivX 6 and MP4 (ISO MPEG4) encoded videos. The ScreenPlay HD can play back videos encoded at 480p (or 576p in Europe) resolutions and up-convert them to Hi-Def 720p or 1080i similar to how some DVD players will up-convert a regular 480p DVD to a 720p or 1080i signal. It does not natively support Hi-Def 720p or 1080i encoded videos. You might consider looking into the ScreenPlay Pro HD. It natively supports MPEG-4 (AVI/DiVX 3.11-5.x/XViD,DiVX 6), MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MP4, MKV, and MOV encoded videos. The ScreenPlay Pro HD will also play video encoded in Hi-Def (720p and 1080i resolutions) natively as well as up-convert 480p or lower resolution video for playback on an HDTV. The ScreenPlay Pro HD also comes with a Transcoding Application that allows you to re-encode and stream over a network various formats that are not natively supported by the device.

good but could use extra features
- Pros: plays almost any video file. Does good job of upscaling divx and xvid files. divx and xvid look better on my 27 inch crt TV with screen play then my 19 lcd monitor with media player
- Cons: Cables are short. must turn off pc or disconect from pc to play videos. Even when you are not accessing the drive on your pc.
- Other Thoughts: would be nice to be able to turn the usb port off.
Handy device
- Pros: This little item is a great investment. I travel a lot with work and I am always in hotels wishing I could watch a movie. Problem solved!! I take this with me and in just a few moments I am watching a movie I have added to it. I also use it for presentations by putting photos on here and letting them run as a slide show. The remote control snaps in at the bottom and you don't have to keep up with it.
- Cons: The only con is twice I had to reboot during a movie, but was back to where I left off in no time. Yes, it has short component cables but you can buy a extender for it if need be. It does make a hissing noise when it is on, however I have HD Satellite and it is louder than the iomega.
- Other Thoughts: Love it. I actually bought one for my brother for Christmas and he and his family have enjoyed it tremendously. Buy it, you want be disappointed.
