Not bad so far...
- Pros: Now that this is hovering at about the $300 range (and hopefully at the Egg at that price soon..) I finally picked one up and started putting it through its paces. It shipped as RAID 0, so out of the box its capacity is 1 TB. You need to log onto its control panel and break the RAID to get to 2 TB (in which case you won't have redundancy, of course...) But as long as this isn't the ONLY place you have your precious files stored, it makes a great network device in which to let all your PCs and game consoles to get to them. Supports iTunes, BitTorrent, FTP, Bluetooth, and now (after a firmware update) does indeed have Remote Access capability. The web interface absolutely rocks, and you'll see plenty of reviews applauding it. The easiest to set-up NAS ever. Also supports 2 USB printers as a server, so I am able to keep several PCs off at home as a result of bringing this box in. EMC bought iOmega, so this now encompasses Retrospect backup, which should be good news. Gigabit Net!
- Cons: "Does this thing feel warm to you?" After returning to the drive the morning after setting it up, it was well toasty. (All aluminum case..) So, the 1-inch cheap china exhaust fan was not spinning at all after taking it out of the box. It's only 4 small screws to open the back (don't think iOmega warranty team would know, I can't see any sort of break-the-seal screws/paint or anything), so I popped the back open and spun it up with my finger, and it started doing its job just fine. Brought the temps right down, and I feel much better about storing my stuff there. Had a little hiccup when updating the firmware (drive was seemingly unreachable via the console after upgrading it, but when I hit it with a different PC/browser, it was actually just fine.
- Other Thoughts: Going to dig into the DLNA server (for PS3) and the iTunes server functionality tonight. All in all, this is shaping up to be a great little NAS for the price. Note that besides printers, you can also attach external USB storage to the back of this, and see it through the console. Let's see how it lasts. If my opinion changes, I'll be back here to explain why. (Once we get to 1 TB 2.5" hard drives, that will be an awesome way to go with NAS boxes, too!)
Great bargain!
- Pros: We've been using this on our network for a few months with good success. Getting the Active Directory integration running was a bit quirky, but once configured it has worked well. Unlike other reviewers, we have had no problems accessing the unit from our workstations (XP and Vista) nor from our W2K3/W2K8 servers using UNC or other methods. It appears as any other server resource on the network and the fact it is a NAS device is completely transparent to the end-user. For the cost, this is a fantastic bargain!
- Cons: The user interface is a bit quirky and slow. The system also seems to have trouble with large, multi-GB file transfers, but we have not ruled out QoS issues on the switch as a possible cause. The documentation is too dumbed down to address high-end, advanced features that network admins are looking for make for a bit of trial and error in configuring advanced features.

Great NAS
- Pros: Overall, I really like this NAS. I'm making sure that is a clear point up front so my other comments do not overshadow the fact that I like this device. If you are looking for something like this, stop right here -- this is the one you want.
* I found it easy to setup once the config software recognized it. I used the Windows software as I will primarily be accessing it from a Windows machine
* It has its own web server to host it's control interface; nice
* Many options for configuration including individual selection of turning on/off CIFS, FTP, SNMP, AFS
* Ability to setup secure logins
* 1TB of storage with RAID-1 makes me feel more secure than a single 1TB drive
- Cons: * "Wake on LAN" would be nice given there is a shutdown ability in the UI
* Power button is really small; need to put drive where it is easily accessible if there will be any regular powering off/on
* Connecting to rear USB ports is awkward unless the drive is sitting conveniently on your desktop.
* No power management, so the drives always spin. It is unsuitable for being on constantly
* Installing the software required patience, but it worked; I'm surprised they don't set this up as a more discoverable device on the network so not software install would be required
- Other Thoughts: * MozyHome is an interesting idea, but is a silly free offer: 2GB free for a 1TB (or 2TB) drive? Also, there is no Linux client for it -- Win and Mac only
* It gets a little warm, but you have to expect that for a small case with two HDDs in it
* It is louder than a laptop, but it's two HDDs in a small enclosure with a 60mm fan to keep them ventilated. I expect noise.

Mozy Home?
- Pros: This is really a nifty device. The interface is slick, AD CIFS support works well, and performance is pretty good. It also has the ability to be an NFS server and VMware Esxi can mount to it just fine. Just make sure you are running gigabit.
- Cons: Mozy Home? It is written on the box. It is listed on the product information PDF on the website. It even came with a flyer inside the box that that says "Free EMC Mozy Online Backup for you Iomega Drive". BUT, and here is the BIG BUT... Mozy Home DOES NOT work with network drives, which this is. I don't know about everyone else, but if I put my media and other important files on this thing, I want to be able to back it up and store that data off site just in case of fire and/or theft.
I am not exacly interested in the "free" service of Mozy, but instead the $4.95 a month for unlimited back ups. So, in order to back this thing up with Mozy you have to use the Mozy Pro service which costs 50 cents a gigabyte. If I fill this thing up, it would cost $500 a month just to back it up with Mozy!!!
- Other Thoughts: Something needs to be done about this. I bought this product because it is EMC, Iomega, and Mozy all together but that isn't what I got. I got a lonely island of 1 TB Mirrored space. Even though it has mirrored drives, I don't feel safe putting all my pictures, home movies, and music on this thing without a good offsite backup.
Also, The box says 1 yr warranty but the manual says 3 year warranty. Which is it?
