1 out of 5 eggsOne day all your data will be gone

Pros: Inexpensive network drive.

Cons: Unreliable. Slow over the network.

Other Thoughts: This drive has a terrible bug in its firmware. I had 2.063 installed and came home one day to discover that the drive was not responding. I tried to power it down using the power button but that didn't work. I even held the power button down for an extended period of time and still nothing. I then pulled the power cord. When I powered the drive back up and tried to access my backed files on it they were all gone. Everything gone. Not one file left. Only the folders. If you are looking for a drive to back up files, DO NOT trust this drive. Eventually, you will lose everything and wish you had paid a bit extra for a more reliable device.

1 out of 5 eggsbad product

Pros: Looks very well built, nice brushed aluminum case

Cons: Did not work right out of box.... after trouble shooting with tech support, RMA got lost it took 4 more calls and over 2 weeks to get a remanufactured drive that was only packaged by shrink wrapping the hard drive to a piece of cardboard, no foam bubble wrap nothing, and imagine that it also did not work!!

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

Pros: Inexpensive, quiet, comes with decent software (5 license) of Retrospect.

Cons: Retrospect may need getting used to, but that would be fine if I was able to complete at least one full backup. I was unable to back up my older computer with Windows XP because Iomega Home Media NAS would hang, disappearing from the network. Several subsequent attempts to have it reset to factory defaults caused loss of all data. I decided to give it a benefit of a doubt and reformatted the drive, but the very next backup failed again with same symptoms after having written just 2 GB of data.

It's under warranty, but what's the use?! How can you trust placing your irreplaceable family photos collected over 10 years onto a device made by company that disappoints you this way? How can it be argued that this unit is defective but another one would not? What's in there that can possibly go bad if it ever was good?

Other Thoughts: May need to charge back the purchase via Visa. Will attempt to downgrade the firmware first, though. If I lose torrent capability but at least get backups going reliably, that may be acceptable for the time being. Very disappointed.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Idea

Pros: Can always access the date, no matter which computer is shut down.
Easy Set up
Iomega Customer service was excellent and replaced the drive without any hassle.

Cons: Died after 7 months of use

Other Thoughts: Newegg is my #1 online computer shopping site.
Use this as a torrent drive so was constantly being used. The unix software broke its communication link with the drive which resulted in all data being lost.

5 out of 5 eggsgreat price

Pros: very nice case design, internal fan for hard drive, hooks up to router through network at full speed (1000 mps), very fast, although my comp ethernet card is going at 100 mps, fast enough for now untill i get another eternet card, adjustable light brightness through software.

Cons: none at this time.

Other Thoughts: operating temp on hard drives is about 0 to 140 f, outside case temp runs about 95 f, didnt measure internal temp, very satisfied with this product.

came with 3 programs on cd-rom, i only used the home media setup program myself, as you need it to set up the main folders on nas, then you just copy and paste stuff into them, cant be easier than that, excellent price and value.

4 out of 5 eggsEasily Installed. Easy access.

Pros: Easily installed into my router (Dlink Extreme Gaming Router) first go around without any trouble-shooting. It was readily recognized by all my laptops and desktops. The drive is already set up with directories for doc, music, video, pictures, etc.

Cons: There is an option to use as a internet drive (i.e. access via www). However, I was never able to get it work. The iomegastorage.com offers a 1 year free internet access to your drive, but it got too complicated setting up your router off the DNS and setting up a permanent ip address. To set up your own, through iomega would cost like additional $80 per year. I just have in it for my LAN.

Other Thoughts: I have wired and wireless g&n setup at my house. For some reason, Playstation 3 will locate the drive but was not able to load any files from it.... it kept saying "no files available". I have not played around with it much. It's too slow to stream movies from the harddrive through wireless connection, only 1.5 mg/sec on 802.11n. I'm trying to set up as a main picture and music server for all my laptop and computer and eventually media PC. I'm not sure if Xbox recognized the drive and files yet, have yet to play with it.

1 out of 5 eggsWeb Site and Service is terrible

Pros: it will work it you never update it or change operating systems.

Cons: The web site is so poorly designed that you are as likly to screw up your unit as to improve it. Any changes are as likly to kill your unit as it is to improve it. The tech are as misleading as to the web site as to what you need to do and will string you along as long as possible before even mentioning RMA.

Other Thoughts: I will never buy a nother iomega product and if given one I will attempt to return it and get a differnet brand.

2 out of 5 eggsDeath by a Thousand Clicks

Pros: Beautiful brushed aluminum case; RJ-45 Gigabyte Ethernet and USB 2.0 connectivity; included software and product guide are comprehensive and useful; love the efficiency that a NAS beings to a home wireless network (one central backup location vice five).

Cons: Noisy enough to preclude its use in a bedroom -- since the HD inside that beautiful brushed aluminum case clicks away audibly (and annoyingly) 24/7, non-stop. Trust me, you will get up in the middle of the night to turn it off. In addition, the HD sleeps so frequently, and is so slow to wake, that using the NAS for shared files makes the computer accessing the NAS sluggish and unresponsive. That is unacceptable, and the primary reason it is no longer in one piece.

Other Thoughts: I was unable to get the device to work as a standalone USB external drive (see my tech knowledge level). Seems it only wants to work as a NAS using the iomega software. Now it's a bare internal 1 TB hard drive. The actual HD is a SAMSUNG EcoGreen F2 HD103SI 1TB 5400 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive. Read the reviews on that thing. Enough said. Final thought: NewEgg rocks, and I love this hobby, even with the occasional disappointments (like this iomega NAS).

Manufacturer Response:

I'm sorry that this device did not meet your purpose. This drive is primarily meant for home usage, being connected to a router or switch at a central location and shared over the network through the house.

If you need a higher performance device, you may consider the StorCenter ix2-200 as an alternative. It is a 2 drive device pre-configured with RAID1. It runs quieter and has power saving options that suit your use environment. It also has a significantly more powerful processor increasing network performance. However, the price is significantly more.

If you intend to re-purpose this as an USB drive, bring the device up in the Disk Management (Right click on My Computer > Manage > Storage > Disk Management) while it is attached via a USB enclosure. You can re-initialize the disk in order for it to be used as a regular external drive. You can find these steps in detail here: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomega_na_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=16551

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk, Lousy Iomega support

Pros: Inexpensive.

Cons: Unreliable. Extremely poor support from Iomega.

Other Thoughts: If the thing stops working for any reason, you can forget getting any help from Iomega. Don't bother to go to their site or their forums. I kept getting a flashing blue light but the drive could not be found on the network - the same problem dozens of people had on Iomega's forum. Not only did Iomega fail to address a solution, but they wanted you to pay $25 to tell you it was broken if it was out of warranty. Apparently the device is sensitive to power outages, so hook it up to a UPS. I won't buy an Iomega product again.

Manufacturer Response:

We're sorry that you had a negative experience with this product.

A flashing blue light on this device means that the drive has gone beyond the critical 95% capacity and is unable to accept any additional data. When it gets to this point, it should still be accessible, but apparently swap space was unable to be allocated on the unit for some reason, which would require it to either be rebuilt or cleaned out by directly connecting the drive to a computer. Since this device was already out of warranty, you are in no risk of invalidating it by further troubleshooting on this device.

Since you were out of warranty, they should have offered you an alternative solutions or the ability to purchase a re-manufactured unit at a markedly lower price.

5 out of 5 eggsworks fine for me

Pros: The price is right. It works. light is adjustable. runs cool. FTP works great. streams to pc's and xbox fine. NTFS

Cons: software sucks. made for noob's. which i think makes it harder to work with. but i just set it up to ftp from and to and it works fine that way. and like any big drive you get big gb loss. its not fully 1024 gb. cant remember what it had but it wasn't any more or less than any other large drive.

Other Thoughts: only reason i use the software is if i reset my router and need to check its ip but im sure there are other ways of doing this. went with this one over others for its price and that it can run NTFS not just FAT like some others in its price range.

1 out of 5 eggsSlow, under power drive

Pros: Large capacity and inexpensive, works with MacOS and Windows, works with MacOS timemachine. Setup and use is straightforward. Satisfy alll my need except for ... it's so slow, especially if there are more than 1 connection to it.

Cons: Software is clumsy and buggy, so slow with supposedly 1G interface, web menu clumsy to navigate
- Writing 8G takes 44 minutes on the 1G interface......
- BitTorrent is not useable. I tried for some files, but just hearing the constant head movements tells me it is going to have an short life with that use.
- If you issue one command (i.e. copy a folder to it), issue another command seems to wait until the 1st one complete. That's make it almost unusable as a network drive

So all features are great, but what good is a network drive with 1G interface if it transfer so slow and cannot support concurrent access well. I wish it has a USB interface, so at least, I could hook that up and get better performance.

Other Thoughts: This products to be tested much more to support MacOS. Many names are not acceptable, symlink does not work right (can create, but not deleted), afp/smb could be used interchangeably, but when you write file in one mode, it could not be read in the other (access right).

Manufacturer Response:

We're sorry that your experience with this device isn't up to your expectations. This device is based on a capable, but not exceptionally powerful, processor. Initiating too many copies will overtax this NAS. This is no exception with any consumer level NAS devices. You may consider one of our high performance, but more expensive, NAS devices to meet your needs.

You can reduce the amount of disk activity by selecting all files then intiating a single copy task.

Regarding AFP/SMB, you may wish to use one or the other. AFP works well if you are using a Mac and want file access rights to be preserved. However, to simply share with other computers, you may want to connect via SMB to avoid access rights issues.

Also, any network copy initiated from the operating system, even a simple move from one folder to another on the NAS, will copy the entire file to your computer then back to the device. This doubles the bandwidth utilized and will slow the copy process significantly.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: I purchased the Iomega 34337 in December of 2009 and could not be happier with the device. I use it for external storage of files and love the accessability via the internet for others outside our home.
Being able to share a printer via the USB port is really nice as well. For the money, its been a great value.

Cons: I have an older wireless router and had to consult a network technician friend of mine to get all things working. However, the newer routers see the drive upon powerup. Scrap the software provided and just use the browser interface for configuration and management.

Other Thoughts: Configuring the device using DHCP did not work because of my older router. However, once I configured the media drive to have a fixed IP address, no problems and its been an abosolute great device. The only reasons I did not give a five star rating is the poor management software and there tech support could have been better

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great - Instant Recognition

Pros: Very easy - plug it into your network and Windows 7 picks up on it right away. Navigate to the unit's IP address to configure settings. Works great as an iTunes or other media server. iTunes picks up on it right away

Cons: While it has a very "cool" design to it, the indicator lights are in a somewhat unnatural spot towards the rear of the unit on the side.

Other Thoughts: Like it a lot. We have several Iomega 4TB ix4 NAS servers and this product fits along side of them nicely

1 out of 5 eggsThere is better out there

Pros: inexpensive
quiet

Cons: overly complex
slow transfer

Other Thoughts: I was looking for a stupid network attached hard drive. All I needed was storage. This device tries to be a media player and tries to create a secure, structured environment, with associated administrative headaches. I would have prefered something more basic.

Manufacturer Response:

We're sorry that this device did not meet your needs. NAS devices will try to address on network security with the creation of users. This security is inherently a part of the network software that NAS devices, in general, will use to provide storage locations.

You can disable features that you don't need which will reclaim some additional memory and processing cycles that can be used strictly for running the operating system and handling network traffic.

Also, installing the Home Storage Manager software will automatically register your username to the device then connect to the device and mount the share locations immediately. Unless you have multiple users, set up secure share locations or use different user names on your computers, you should not run into this issue.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fairly well

Pros: Holds my files, easy to access once set up on Windows XP computers

Cons: There are issues on my Windows 7 laptop. Remote access does not work with my particular router. The drive is noisy and the fans in it are getting noisier... may have to crack it open and replace them.

Other Thoughts: The main reason I bought this was so that we could access my photos (I'm a photographer so I've got a 200 GB library) and our music library on any computer or the PS3 or the 360. And while it does that, integrating these files into iTunes is not seamless. There are issues. Using it to build my lightroom library on multiple computers works well but is not seamless either. But it does do the job I bought it for, which is to hold my stuff.

3 out of 5 eggsIomega 1TB Home Media Network Drive

Pros: Good feature set includes Time Machine support for multiple Mac users, active folders, ftp, torrents, slideshows, etc. Browser interface available so no additional software installation required.

Cons: Not so easy to set up for novices, mediocre performance despite gigabit ethernet support. Abysmal performance when using USB port to connect additional drive. Poorly arranged interface of browser interface makes finding settings less than intuitive.

Other Thoughts: On my wired gigabit network, I get sustained reads speeds of about 19MB/sec (153mb/sec) and sustained write speeds of about 12MB/sec (96mb/sec). When connecting an additional drive to USB port of the Home Media Network drive, I get less than 2MB/sec read and write speeds. Confirmed results as typical "due to limitation of the unit" via online chat session with Iomega tech support. Consequently USB port should probably be reserved for printer only which I have not tried.

1 out of 5 eggsForget it. No QA was done

Pros: 1 TB

Cons: Where do I start? I have the latest firmware, 2,063. I'm on a gigabit network.

* When you create a new root folder, it can never be renamed, only deleted.

* Creating or deleting a root folder will cause the drive to momentarily disconnect from the network. No warning.

* Torrent server doesn't work. It is full of bugs. It stops downloading all the time. No explanation. I've given up. Starts off great but stops dead.

* Restarting torrent downloads goes into a forever verify state on each download.

* Disable and re-enable the torrent server and it only sees some of your torrents (2 of the 4 for me consistently).

*Confirms torrent delete, but they aren't.

* Need to do a restart to get the torrent server back on track but then it stops downloading after 10 minutes.

No error messages ever shown or in a log. Remote access won't let you pick the port. It conflicts with ooVoo.

If pushed too hard it will just drop off the network. Maybe too exhausted to continue.

I

Other Thoughts: EMC seems to be in a who cares about quality mode. I had to uninstall Retrospect Express. It was useless and dangerous as a backup because it would forget everything about the backups constantly and I could never get things rebuilt properly. Never ever EMC nor Iomega for me again.

4 out of 5 eggsDLNA Works

Pros: DLNA works - streams to my PS3 (of the formats that the PS3 can read). As soon as I plugged it in my Win7 box and PS3 could see it. I just used the web interface to do some minor changes, I haven't used any of the software.

Cons: I tried to change it to a static address and I couldn't connect to it correctly. The web interface would only respond with the first page, but nothing else worked, even the shares. I had to hard reset it, which I couldn't find any instructions for (in the documentation or web site) but I wasn't that hard to figure out to press and hold the reset button for a while.

Other Thoughts: I just wanted to test out DLNA and ripped DVD streaming to my PS3. After I got 200GB on it new files weren't showing up until I hit the rescan (which took a couple of hours)

1 out of 5 eggsiomega Home Media Network Hard Drive

Pros: none -

Cons: First, iomega does not provide phone technical support for this product. And good luck with their chat support! My drive transfer speed is about 50kbs. The technician claimed that was ok and they could not guarantee transfer speed. I'd suggest looking at other brands.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well so far

Pros: Does what it says
Easy set up

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Connected to Linksys N speed wireless router.
Works well over wireless with PS3 and N speed laptop for video. A few annoying pauses on PS3, but usually not bad. No such pauses on laptop.
No trouble with photos and music at any speed wireless connection on any device.
No trouble with video if the playing device is hardwired to router.

1 out of 5 eggsnot DLNA certified #fail

Pros: price
flickr uploader
background torrent

Cons: Iomega uses DLNA wording on their advertising and packaging, but a quick check of Iomegas support forums and a google search will show how Iomega is playing fast and lose with the DLNA certification selling feature. Basically this drive is not DLNA certified. Its basically mis leading advertising by Iomega. In Particular, this drive is useless for owners of Sony Bravia TV's.

Other Thoughts: Given the problems that users are reporting and the firmware upgrades that Iomega have released, expect this product to be discontinued before it is actually working. Stay away!

3 out of 5 eggsGreat at first, but now having issues

Pros: Cheap, nice looking, Torrent, FTP, Gigabit

Cons: Slow

Other Thoughts: I posted a review earlier, but I'm having issues connecting to the drive and printer shares. I can see the shares, but can't access them. Also can't seem to install the new firmware upgrade. The "connection resets." I've tried factory reset a few times too. Haven't tried contacting Iomega yet, but hoping there will be a resolution that doesn't involve losing the data on the drive. It took a long time to copy it over there...

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the issues you have had with our product. This situations sounds like there might be a corrupted configuration file on the device itself. I would highly recommend contacting Iomega Support and explain these exact symptoms to the support agent. They will step you through additional troubleshooting to find a resolution.

3 out of 5 eggswait awhile

Pros: As advertised

Cons: NOT READY for 7...... . Requires patch and still media functions don't allow indexing for media library access. SLOW, especially if adding a second usb drive.

Other Thoughts: Bought back in the Vista days, NOT READY for 7...... . Requires patch. Update will work but not smooth sailing if you have data on it will have to back up and F disc... this is like a weekend project........... still cannot map drive to use media player library function and did I mention it's Slow, especially if using a second usb drive.

Manufacturer Response:

Please update to the latest firmware patch. It significantly improves attached external USB speeds. Also, Home Storage Manager version 2.0.1.6 now fully support Windows 7.

4 out of 5 eggsmostly good but nowhere near gigabit speeds

Pros: -price is great for a 1TB NAS
-it's very easy to use if you know what you're doing
-the aluminum looks very nice and keeps it cool too
-the fan spins when it gets hot but i've never noticed it
-connect another usb drive for more storage
-works w/ acronis to backup my computers

Cons: -it's supposed to be a gigabit NAS but it's slow as hell (i typically get around 40 MB/s to 60 MB/s when transferring between computers on my network but i'm getting between 7 MB/s to 12 MB/s w/ this NAS)
-reads are a little better but not by much
-i can play 720p videos but i have problems when playing 1080p files

Other Thoughts: do yourself a favor and skip the included software. all you have to do is punch in the ip address in your browser to configure the drive (IE works better than firefox). after that, just map whatever folders you want and you're done (not sure about mac but that's all i had to do in windows). i haven't messed around w/ the ftp or torrent manager yet but i'll get to it soon. it lacks some more advanced features but at this price, i'm not complaining.

i've been using one for several months now and ordered two more for other people and they've been working great

1 out of 5 eggsDont buy this NAS

Pros: Cost

Cons: I do not recommend this product.Slow transfer speed.Disconnects frequently. Had to download latest software for Vista. There are much better products out there for just a little more money.Don't waste your money or time.I have already requested a refund and am going with a buffalo so I can transfer files via usb and access them over the network.

Manufacturer Response:

We're very sorry for the negative experience you've had with this device. I highly recommend updating both the firmware and the Home Storage Manager discovery tool to their latest versions to improve the overall performance of your device.

Also, the Home Media Network Hard Drive does support transfers via USB and allows access to those files via a shared location over the network. You can even use the Remote Access feature to allow attached USB devices to be accessible via a web portal secured with a username and password.

3 out of 5 eggsOverall, good product

Pros: - support both ethernet and USB II.
- plug & play works just fine
- software options are interesting too, you can lock some folders and control the access.

Cons: - many bugs on the software provided, I made the mistake to install it on all PC. I should only have installed it on the admin one, since everytime I close the PC (win XP) the software bugs out and doesnt respond, so I have to force quit it to close the computer (annoying).

Other Thoughts: This hard drive itself works well, I use it as a backup for all ghost on the network of a small business.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent value for NAS

Pros: Bittorrent & FTP client; gigabit ethernet, iTunes server/DLNA/UPnP capability; print server via USB. Easy to use and set up. Comes with EMC Retrospect Express Backup and Disaster Recovery, 2GB Mophie storage, 1yr free TZO.

Cons: Only 1 drive, doesn't seem replaceable, no RAID. Drive always spins. Fan always runs (very quiet).

Other Thoughts: Would be great if the HDD spun down. Takes a long time to transfer all of my media over my non 802.11n/gigabit network to the drive (that's not the NAS' fault). Took a little work to get the Torrent client working. It was nice to get our printer on the network too instead of turning on the main PC whenver we wanted to print. Overall, this is a great value and I recommend it to my friends. Sharp looking too!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Product

Pros: Absolutely silent, huge capacity, fast enough for our house on my 10/100 network, Iomega tech support helped me set it up in Windows 7 and they were very knowledgeable, serves music to my Roku Soundbridge M1001, print server works perfectly with my Epson Stylus Photo 2200

Cons: Software that comes with it does not work in Windows 7 so as a result I had to contact tech support. Ordinarily, that would result in a couple less eggs but they were fast, knowledgeable, and helpful so 5 eggs it is. Plus, Windows 7 has only been out for a few days so I'm willing to cut some slack.

Other Thoughts: I was a little nervous placing my order for this product based on some of the reviews. Then I tried to install the software on my Windows 7 machine and it wouldn't install. I almost returned it, but figured I'd give the tech support chat a try and was pleasantly surprised to have it sorted out in 15 minutes. I have to put my 2 cents in and say that I am thrilled with this product. It does what they say it will and for a very attractive price! Mine has version 2.040 of the firmware. It is very well constructed and despite what other reviews say, it runs silently even when the drive is working. It also runs cool, the aluminum case is cool to the touch. It will easily replace the old Pentium machine I've been using as a Home File/Print Server. As for backup, I plan to subscribe to Mozy and have it backup this drive. There is a free trial included with the drive that will backup up to 2GB which of course won't do beans with a 1TB drive but their monthly subscription is reasonable.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as Expected

Pros: Plugged into switch in server room and it showed up on our windows 2003 domain. Used the discovery software on my personal system but then just mapped the device on the remaining work computers by IP address. Didn't mess with any of the extra software that came with the system and even the network discovery software is unnecessary if you don't want to use it.

Cons: This stuff is really not Cons, just more thoughts. I took a while to realize that my personal software firewall settings were stopping the NAS from showing up on my machine. Also, tried to enable remote access but it couldn't find a connection. I'm sure this is our hardware firewall or some environmental setting, but I didn't bother to diagnose since I was only looking at the feature because it was there and not because it was something I was planning on using.

Other Thoughts: My work environment has 8 computer users. Archived client projects are backed up to DVD/CD's and now added to this NAS for easy network access. Server is windows 2003 and doesn't have enough room for these archived files.

I haven't done any benchmarking for speeds but they seem consistent with what I would expect. Don't really know how it works under multiple simultaneous users but at the same time I haven't had any office complaints.

5 out of 5 eggsPerforms as per Expectations

Pros: Hooked this to the switch in the server room and it is working on our windows 2003 domain and GB network just fine. Took a little time to see it but that was a personal issue related to my computers software firewall.

Cons: It seems like the remote access could have been designed a little better but I wont take any eggs off for that, since I didn't really care about that feature, just looked at it a little because it was there and when I couldn't quickly figure it out, I just stopped messing with it.

Other Thoughts: Drive is used to archive old files which are backed up to DVD/CD's and then stored as there is not enough room on the server. In addition to CD/DVD to backup these files are placed on this drive so they can be accessed from the domain network. This has worked well. Although I have not done specific speed benchmarking transfer speeds are where I would expect them to be. Upload seems a little slower than download.

Note this is a small company with only 8 employees and I haven't had specific experience with multiple simultaneous user accessing the drive, so don't really know what impact that would have but no-one in the office has has complained about it either.

5 out of 5 eggsHome Media Drive is Awesome

Pros: Super easy to set up. Runs an automatic iTunes server. Any song you put in the music folder will show up on any computer connected to the network as an available shared drive in their iTunes.

Cons: Setting up remote browser access via Airport Express is not easy.

Other Thoughts: Should spin down

1 out of 5 eggsBeware

Pros: Price

Cons: Support

Other Thoughts: Product worked great out of the box. Setup was easy. But after having this for 3 months the drive died. Iomega would not offer to recover the data for free even though the device was under warranty. So you will need a storage device to back up your back up storage device.

2 out of 5 eggsUnit was defective

Pros: Great customer support help from people here in the USA!. Nice backup software. Decent price.

Cons: Unit acted wacky right out of the box. First it started changing it's static assigned IP address by itself. Finally it got worse by just randomly falling off the network. I had to reboot (power off/on) it to bring it back to life. I ended up sending it back and buying a different company's product.

1 out of 5 eggsNoisy and died after 6 months, terrible support

Pros: I was very excited when I bought this unit, and it installed fast, and I loved having it to stream music throughout the house.

Cons: However, I soon found that the fan was so noisy I couldn't bear to have it on in when I was working in my home office, so I got in the habit of turning it off when I started working, and turning it back on when I left. Today I tried to turn it back on, and it made loud noises, LED blinked red and white, and it never appeared on my Network. Went to Iomega support, you can't call or email, you must "chat." So I waited and waited and chatted, and got someone who told me that the blinking LED meant "boot device not found", and that if I sent my drive in, Iomega would send me a refurbished drive as a replacement. When I asked about all the data, I was told that Iomega has a data extraction service, and that if I wanted to pay hundreds of dollars more, they would attempt to get the data off the drive that I bought from them that failed.

So spend money to buy a drive, put data on it, then get charged lots of money to get data off, and get it replaced with an older drive. FAIL

Other Thoughts: When I asked about getting an RMA to return the drive, the chatter said he would send one via email, but it never showed up.

Bad quality, horrible support. I will never buy an Iomega product again.

Manufacturer Response:

We're very sorry for the difficulties you've had with the Home Media Network Hard Drive. We highly recommend that at the first signs of trouble or distress--especially if the hard drive is also making noise--contact us so that we can avoid any further unpleasantness. Fan noise, if it is squealing or grinding excessively, is also a matter to bring to our attention.

If the device is not adequately cooled or kept in the open to allow proper airflow, the device may reach excessive heat levels and it may damage the unit. (As I believe is the case here.)

You can also contact us via Call or Chat regarding this device. Use this link here to access the "Live Help" on the left for Phone, Chat and support forums: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomega_na_en.cfg/php/enduser/cust_alp.php?prod_lvl1=1031&prod_lvl2=1043&p_prods=1031,1043

Iomega also highly recommends keeping a backup of your data in two locations at all times, especially if the integrity of the device is in questio

Pros: I had an issue with my router, however tried it at work and on a friends network and setup was extremely easy. Works well with my PS3.

Cons: As mentioned, could use a hibernate and standby mode. Had issue with my Belkin router; it didn't want to give an IP to the drive. Spent an hour with tech support and could not get to the admin setup. Had it connected directly to a laptop via CAT5. There should be aw way to local reach the admin setup so that you can manually enter an IP.

Other Thoughts: So my Belkin router did not want to give an IP to the drive. I had to go onto a friend's network to reach the admin setup so that I can manually enter in the IP. After that, I was able to reach it on my network. Also, in PS3 sometimes it doesn't show the most current updates. Example, edit music file name, but PS3 still shows old name. I tried rescanning the DLNA folders on the drive, restarting the drive, resarting PS3...nothing. I had to fake edit the file a couple of times for it to show the final change in PS3.

2 out of 5 eggsNetwork storage - I wished

Pros: Looks easy to install. It worked as I expected for a while. Would rate as a 5 until I had a problem. Bought in July problem appeared in Sept.

Cons: Used for 2+ months - failed to connect several times before conclusion that the product had problems. Then it just died. Web server in it does not connect and HD appears to be hung in reset mode.

If you ever have tried to get help from Iomega’s web site – lots of answers to general questions which I am sure helps many.

I just need to return this to Iomega for replacement - it appears they hide RMA to reduce the returns. Not happy at this point.

Other Thoughts: Some one a Iomega needs to review the RMA process – Customers do not need a maze to go through to return a product. I deal with broken equipment daily and understand things break. How a company handles a problem is most important.

Manufacturer Response:

Please contact our support department for Troubleshooting instructions. After one of our Agents reviews the state of the drive with you and finds that it has failed, they will provide RMA instructions.

You can do this over the phone or through the Chat interface that can be found at this link here: https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomega_na_en.cfg/php/enduser/chat.php

Our Agents are required to perform troubleshooting before a replacement can be authorized.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent NAS

Pros: This is my second Iomega NAS; the first (older 4x 250gb model) I purchased from Newegg and this one (single terabyte) I purchased from elsewhere. BOTH drives are running stable WITHOUT any problems. FTP and print server was literally setup within minutes. My iPhone detected the uPNP server without a hitch...

So what's the problem with some of these reviewers!? My guess is lack of experience and patience... That or they have REALLY junkie routers.

Cons: NONE except the negative reviews posted by inexperienced users.

Other Thoughts: I agree with the reviewer before me. This drive is as stable as a USB drive if you know what you're doing. If you notice drive disconnects, slow speeds, etc. then chances are it's your router's fault and not the drive's. Try getting a better router or see if it supports the DD-WRT firmware.

1 out of 5 eggsTime Machine doesn't work

Pros: Basic functions work, but not what I bought it for.

Cons: I bought this for it's support of Apple's Time Machine. I wanted to use it to backup my 3 macs. Iomega's website explicitly states that the device and Home Media Storage software works with Snow Leopard. It does not. The software would not install on any of my 2 Snow Leopard machines. While I was able to connect to the drive, see folders and manually copy files using Finder I could not back up using Time Machine. (The drives were listed but the Sparcbundle could not be created.)

Home Storage Manager installed fine on my Leopard Macbook but it did not find the NAS. I had to connect manually here too. Time Machine also failed to work - no network drives showed up in the TM window.

Other Thoughts: I'm considering returning it unless Iomega can give me some suggestions on how to fix it. With so many other options available from the Apple Time Capsule to newly released NAS devices from Seagate and others, why would I continue to waste time with the Iomega?

Manufacturer Response:

Please contact Iomega Support for these issues. Also, please review the support site for any software updates, particularly the Home Storage Manager for Mac. The original software had some issues with wireless connectivity which has now been fixed.

Also, our Agents have been fully briefed on setting up Time Machine support in order to help customers use this device as it is intended. They can help you with connecting this device so it will be seen by the Home Storage Manager Software as well as determine any actions to be taken to get Time Machine up and running.

1 out of 5 eggsAlmost useless for remote access

Pros: Price

Cons: After nearly an hour with a low level tech support person, Iomega confirmed that it is currently impossible to remotely access folders that have been secured on the drive by user name. They say this will be addressed in a future firmware update, but judging by the months that others have been complaining online about this issue, it has already taken too long.

Other Thoughts: I am very unhappy with this product since I purchased it for the remote access features which do not work unless one is prepared to make all folders on the drive available to everyone on your network. If all you need is an NAS drive for local access, this product does what it claims to do.

Manufacturer Response:

We're sorry for the negative experience you've had with this device. This is an issue that we are aware of and it will be fixed in future versions. You can access these files remotely with a little additional effort. Try these following steps as a temporary solution:

When connecting to your unit remotely, click on the Configure button and enter the Administrator password you assigned to the unit. From within the Administrator interface, select the Folder menu and find the folders that you wish to access. Unsecure these folders temporarily and then log out of the unit.

Log in again with your username and password that you use when locally attaching to the secured shares. This will allow you to reach the remote access portion of the NAS device. You will then be able to access those files. They will still protected remotely by your login, but they will not be secured on your local network during that time.

You can secure these folders again using the Administration interface.

1 out of 5 eggsCould not get to work

Pros: Tech service for Iomega speak English and some of them are knowledgable.

Cons: Could not get my router to recognize. Replaced. Still no dice. Not thrilled that it will cost me a re-stocking fee. Much as I love newegg, I think I will head out to the local shop for one that works and will not cost me to return if it doesn't.

Manufacturer Response:

We're sorry for your negative experience with this device. During the troubleshooting process, were you able to detect the device by directly connecting this device to your computer's network? If you computer can directly connect to the device and access it, you may be having an issue with another part of your network.

If you experience a similar problem with your new device, verify that you do not have multiple routers on a single network that might be creating a NAT network bubble within your primary network. Also, verify through the router that your device is listed in the LAN Device List, if the router supports that function.

You can use this as a launching off point for further network and remote access troubleshooting: http://iomega.com/support/remoteaccess/index.html

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great with patience

Pros: Does a lot of things, ftp, itunes server, backup, and time machine; inexpensive.

Cons: documentation could be better, you have to hunt for things on iomega website; wireless setup with time machine has a known bug (there is a simple workaround but you have to find it on the website by searching for it). It took me some time and effort on my own and with tech support to setup all the features; software interface not as mature as it could be.

Other Thoughts: I really like the device, it is quiet (no fan issues here), I am pleased that Iomega seems to want to upgrade the firmware continually so that is good. It isn't a plug and play type device, so be prepared to invest some time. I was dissapointed that itunes server lets you play songs from any computer, but you can't make playlists or put on your ipod (not Iomega's fault I don't think, I was naive in thinking this would be better), and you have to copy your itunes music into the drive manually. Time machine works flawlessly with it, a real plus, so this device does a lot and is reasonably inexpensive.

3 out of 5 eggsUser friendly NAS with issues

Pros: - Ready to go out of the box
- Torrent client
- Remote access capability
- Easy to use interface
- Great value for 1TB NAS
- Firmware support

Cons: - No idle/powersave mode
- Remote access has issues including a major security flaw
- Must use commercial DynDNS service (TZO - free 1st year)

Other Thoughts: I've looked for a NAS for a long time and finally settled on this one. It's simple to use and has lots of features. The first thing I did when I got the drive was to upgrade to firmware 2.040. The update was pretty painless. Iomega has released two firmware updates for this drive already, so they are trying to improve this product.

DLNA
My PS3, XBox, and computers on the network detected the drive with no problem

Remote Access
It took me a while to set up port forward. I even had to chat with tech support. I had to try ports 80, 443 and 445, which are not published anywhere.

SECURITY FLAW:
With the latest firmware, when you access the drive remotely, your password is shown in the URL! A cookie is also created with this URL, so your password will be saved in the browser history and the cookie file. Iomega's support forum confirmed this problem in July, 2009 but hasn't fixed the issue.

4 out of 5 eggsNice drive for the price, but...

Pros: 1. Lots of disk space
2. Slick design
3. Good quality construction
4. Fairly quiet
5. Price. I haven't seen a NAS drive for anywhere near this cheap.
6. Nice web interface.

Cons: 1. My original drive from NewEgg was very loud (think turboprop aircraft). After a couple of calls to Iomega tech support, they decided to send me a replacement (they could clearly hear how loud it was on the phone). I got the replacement drive five days later, and it works great.
2. Very slow connection. The claim in gigabit speed. But, in my experience, it is well under 100 mbps.
3. As others have noted, there is no spin down or power save mode. So, it runs at full power all the time.
4. I couldn't create secured folders and get by with just Windows folder mapping/authentication. Apparently you need to install Iomega's bloatware to make use of secured folders on the drive. I haven't bothered.
5. Drive occasionally locks up when copying files to it...requiring a reboot of the drive.

Other Thoughts: Despite the Cons, I've very pleased.
I bought this drive for three reasons.
1. To use as a backup drive. With 1 TB of disk space, it fits the bill perfectly.
2. To streaming music to PCs/laptops. I wanted my wife, kids, and I to be able to stream music to our computers and have one central music library. It works great.
3. To stream music to a Philips Streamium NP2900. And I must say, I was surprised to see how will it actually worked. I purchased the Streamium a couple of weeks after getting the drive, giving me time to rip my CDs and copy the files to the Iomega drive. I thought that, once I got the Streamium, I'd have to tweak settings on the drive, the Streamium, or my router to make it work. But, nope...it worked right out of the box. I'm extremely pleased at how well it works. Now I can listen to music on the Streamium (without any PCs being on) anywhere in the house, garage, or patio. Nice.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Super easy setup, its web interface is a breeze to use and setup. its made to be as simple as can be. The gigabyte port makes file transfers a snap. I set this up in a small office with 16 computers i had all 16 computers ghosting from a file on this drive and it took no longer then if i would have had a usb drive plugged into each machine. Biggest file i transferred over the gigabyte network was about 8gigs and it took maybe 8mins

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: I couldnt get a knoica minolta machine to scan to a folder on the drive but i believe this issue is not the drive.

1 out of 5 eggsIomega firmware link does not work

Pros: Excellent features, high capacity, very versatile.

Cons: Firmware shipped (from another retailer) with firmware 1.029. Firmware 2.039 is listed on their website, but the link does not work. There are no other firmware versions that can be downloaded.

Other Thoughts: I will try to update this review once the firmware is actually downloadable.

Manufacturer Response:

The firmware link has now been updated with the 2.040 version of the firmware. This update includes features for Remote Access: including FTP and remote file browsing via your web browser.

We apologize for the inconvenience.

4 out of 5 eggsHome Media Server works as expected

Pros: Very simple setup. Easy to understand web interface needs no read the manual to do basic tasks. Quiet. Lots of storage. This unit has performed to expectations and is a step above having an external hard drive that must be saddled to a computer. What you sacrifice in transfer speeds over a network, you make up for in the convenience of access and the basic levels of security.

Cons: Remote access is tied to TZODNS. Even if you figure out how to bypass TZO for your access (Like I did) the unit still verifies against your TZO account, so when your free year is up, so is your remote access. Too bad they did not offer you a choice like most routers as I use DynDNS and their services are FREE. I also wish they shipped these units with DHCP enabled. Mine came with a static IP set to the 192.168.1.x subnet and I had to add this IP to one of my workstations for initial configuration. I realize that many home routers come preset to that subnet, but having DHCP enabled will get you connected to 100% of the people out there.

Other Thoughts: My first device made a loud sound out of the box. I saw other reviewers complaining of this same issue. I contacted Iomega and tech support told me that it was a known problem with the fan dimensions. They promptly issued an RMA and within a week, I had the unit back.

I find that when people complain about tech support, it really comes down to a lack of communications versus bad tech support. Maybe I am just lucky, but I never experience any support nightmares that many seem to complain about in reviews and in forums. Maybe people should learn how to explain their problems better and always treat the person at the other end of the line with respect and kindness!

1 out of 5 eggsBeware!

Pros: Price, appearance

Cons: Software, firmware, operating system.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this drive just a few days ago 07/01/2009 and according to instruction, checked for any firmware updates that may be available. There was one available, so I downloaded and installed it.

That was the EOL for this drive.

Unknown to me at the time, Iomega had just put this firmware update online a few hours before I downloaded it. Over the next several hours incidents began to crop up on Iomegas forum website, and others were having the same issue as myself. "Drive cannot be addressed on the network"

Turns out the firmware update bricks the drive. This is confirmed. I have spent a lot of time on the phone with TECH support and while they did manage to come up with a work around for one problem, there are others and it is only a workaround after all.

This is a time sensitive post, as I am sure that in time the issue will be resolved, but for the next month or so beware and check into the firmware update before installing!!!

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for posting this and letting people know that there were potential issues with the 2.038 update if applied to the wrong firmware level. We want to make sure that our customer have the best experience possible with this device.

Due to the sensitive nature of these issues, our engineering team has quickly resolved the potential issues that existed in the 2.038 firmware and have released an updated 2.039 full firmware upgrade. This update can be applied to all firmware levels of the Home Media Network Hard Drive. It is available immediately from the support site through Iomega.com.

3 out of 5 eggsCheap construction but works

Pros: Works as it is supposed to right out of the box. Cheap - paid $129 at a retail store some 3 months back.

Cons: Poor quality materials. The front faceplate broke off without me applying any level of pressure. Sub standard documentation. Slow data transfer.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Price for Basic Storage

Pros: Lightweight unit with USB or Network plug in. Good storage capacity for this type of product. File transfer is good not the best or the worst.

Attached unit to network router, assigned ip address with no problem, mapped as a drive letter in XP. Next copy files to. Simple as that.

Cons: Unknown power down standby time.

Power switch and the status lights on the back of the unit. Why not have them in front where the user can see and use them!

Other Thoughts: I skipped installing the supplied software based on other reviews. Drive works like its should without bloated software.

For the price its an easy way to back up your photos, music, and other files for the cheap budget. Not to be confused with the backup reliability of a raid system but its better than having no backup at all.

What I use it for is copy files to once a week then turn the unit off, unplug power and network. Saves on wear and tear (also protects during thunderstorms that can knock out anything plugged in).

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad for a cheap network storage device

Pros: Pretty slick for a cheap device. Holds a large amount of data in an area that is physically far away from my computers. Seems to have solid construction. Simple setup.

Cons: Slow transfer rates. This isn't too bad, though, since I will only do a massive transfer once (to back up my current files).

5 out of 5 eggsworks well

Pros: setup was easy, plugged into network, all the computers saw it and had full access to the share folders immediately.
i didn't use the included software the web interface is perfect
there are actually two web pages, one is iomega's and the other is the twonky media config page, the iomega web page clean and makes adding folders etc easy. the twonky web page has alot of options and configuration options. to get the twonky page just add :9000\config to the end of the i.p. for the NAS

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: nice home NAS. have one computer importing music while another computer is playing music from same folder while transferring gigs of data to another folder with no problems

3 out of 5 eggsSome good and some bad

Pros: The device is very easily installed. I connected it to my dlink gigabit unmanaged switch via a cat6 enhanced cable and was treated to a green gigabit link light. I connected to the device directly via the ip address assigned via my router and there was no configuration whatsoever aside from securing the shares that come by default. The drive quality is very good and the hard aluminum shell stays very cool to the touch.

Cons: The drive makes some noise, though it's not oppressive by any stretch. Though I have a gigabit connection and every device on my network is gigabit, I haven't been able to obtain gigabit speeds at all. Copying 25GB of files took about an hour and 5 minutes averaging about 7.6 MB/s, which isn't quite 100M speeds. Reading data from the drive has been much better, but still not fabulous and I average between 15 - 30 MB/s for very large operations. Visibility is great from my computer, but my wife's computer utilizing wireless will sometimes not see the drive, though she's actively connected to the network and able to see other resources. Adding a static path to her Windows 7 setup fixed the problem, and I believe that to be more of a problem with the beta OS than with the drive, so I wouldn't let that sway your opinion. The Twonky media server that it comes bundled with is also kind of iffy sometimes and refuses to see some filetypes, but again, a limitation of Twonky not the drive.

Other Thoughts: Overall the drive works as expected, though I wish the performance was improved on write operations and I wish that the media server was something a little more robust. It plays files on my XBox360 without any fuss.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice NAS

Pros: Very simple to set up. Either DHCP or Static IP, You dont really need the included software as Win Xp will discover the drive and assign it drive letters. It's then a matter of drag and drop files to it. Works fine with MY PS3. Just make sure to turn on DLNA for the music folder as Itunes is the default. It's NOT a FAT32 format drive so You can rip DVD VOBS and not be worried about the fat32 file size limit.

Cons: The bloat ware that it installed. Mozy remote back up software, they could have kept that. I uninstalled it. Transfer speeds seems to vary at times it's pretty fast other it's slow..even with the same file. I see network transfer speeds go from 60Mbs to 12Mbs with no other programs running on the same file.

Other Thoughts: The drive does make some weird noises. Makes me want to get a back up from my backup just in case this drive fails. However the setup is very easy. I dont see how people are having problems with it. I did not try the print server, as I already have a Network capable printer on my home Network.

5 out of 5 eggsFrustration

Pros: Does EVERYTHING IOmega claims perfectly! I tested everything. Got the print server to work in seconds both with and without the included software. However I prefer not to use extra software. It's so easy I thought the instructions were overkill!

Cons: Although not a huge deal but, I'd like to see a spin down feature added to the firmware to help save energy. And B, the actual drive itself is a Linux/XFS file system which concerns me a little when it comes to the drive becoming corrupted and so far there is no cure. However recovery of your data is possible through a Linux system so don't let this scare you from this unit. I have to say it. PERFORM REGULAR BACKUPS!

Other Thoughts: My frustration is from all the whinners who review. Either you're a 14 year old with mommy's credit card or not educated enough to buy the product and are too lazy to spend the 5 minutes or so it takes to educate yourself. Here's a hint. GOOGLE! TCIP is not that hard. This unit gets a five and I'd give it more if I could to counteract all the negative ratings of which have no merit. Also people if you can't get this unit to work DO NOT rate your tech knowledge anything more than 'Low understanding'.

5 out of 5 eggsExcelent

Pros: I was a little afraid with Drive Quality, noise, etc, etc. After a week of use I just have good comments. Noise? I do not hear but a little sound coming out when in heavy use. maybe they fixed it. No heat, Configuration was something at the beginning because I don't have DHCP enable. I reboot and Re assign an IP Address within my network and it's great now. I'm configuring My kid's PS tonight. I just ordered two more. for couple of friends. They are very excited with my comments and asked me to buy it for them.

Cons: Printer Service, Well, Just forget about it. Somewhat slow.

Other Thoughts: If they improved Printer Service and Speed. They will become a name in houses as Data Server

2 out of 5 eggsDiffucult to Install

Pros: In the end it all worked.

Cons: A tough installation for me. First, the Iomega software did something which locked up my notebook PC. I had to do a system restore on it. So, I did a manual install. With much trial and effor I was able to get the print server working on a small network.

Second, the media server did not cooperate well with my Philips NP1100 media player. The player would crash and do an auto reboot when I tried to select a music file. Adjusting my router settings to give the Iomega Media Drive a higher priority fixed this.

I tried to contact Iomega tech support, but they work bankers hours, so no help there.

Other Thoughts: Poor support, poor software and sub-par documentation made this a challenge to install. I came very close to returning the Iomega Network Media Drive. One can hope that the software/firmware/aocumentation will mature and this will be a better product, but this will not help me.

3 out of 5 eggsGood NAS - Print Server not working

Pros: Just plug'n'play. Software from the CD-ROM is not really needed. I suggest to use Windows Vista's Backup & Restore software for very easy and carefree backups.

Cons: I am very disappointed that the print server does not work at all. The device recognized my Brother HL-2140 when plugged in but printing is not possible at all. I installed all drivers correctly and the printer works flawlessly when directly connected to a computer.
Many, many people tried unsuccessfully to make the printer server work. Shame on iomega to advertise this. iomega also does not provide a list of compatible printers. I guess they don't know either. The device runs EMC LifeLine software.

3 out of 5 eggsNetwork storage but not print server

Pros: The drive installs easily. After installing the manager software in Vista each of the 5 default folders were automatically mapped to drive letters. Changing configurations is very easy. Drive (purchased elsewhere) came with the latest firmware. The drive is quiet. It is inaudible above the fan noise of a computer in the same room.

Cons: Attaching a USB printer to the USB port doesn't work. The printer appears to be there. Printer installation on networked PCs finds the printer labelled as "printer1". But status monitoring and printing to the printer fails.

Other Thoughts: Use this 1 Tb drive as shared storage. But don't expect to use it as a print server.

5 out of 5 eggsDLNA and UPnP = Awesome

Pros: 1. 1TB of data storage
2. Runs TwonkyMedia server
3. Requires absolutely NO set up, just plug in and you're done.
4. Fully DLNA and UPnP compatible, which means it works flawlessly with my PS3.
5. Solid aluminum construction.
6. Stays cool.

Cons: 1. Runs a bit louder than expected. Probably not suitable for bedroom use unless you switch it off at night.
2. 1 Gb/s ethernet? Yeah, right... Expect 100 Mb/s speeds.

Other Thoughts: While the two cons above may detract from the capabilities of this NAS, in reality they're nothing more than a minor nuisance at best.

Final thoughts: This item listing should explicitly state DLNA and UPnP support. None of the online reviews or product descriptions seem to state this. I'll attribute that to this being a relatively new product.

4 out of 5 eggsCost effective network storate

Pros: Large storage capacity and it's really simple to install. I just plugged it in to my wireless router, installed the software, and off it went. This is the perfect solution to the problem of tens of thousands of family photos and a massive MP3 music library.

Cons: - Have not found a solution that will allow it to be accessed remotely via internet.

Other Thoughts: Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm having a heck of a time finding a gateway device that connects to the TV and wirelessly connects to the router so that I can stream both photos and video.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Value

Pros: One the of cheapest options for 1TB of NAS. Although it lacks FTP the SMB seems to work fine. Iomega software is only required to setup the drive, once it's setup everything runs fine. I purchased this to use with a modded Xbox running XBMC and it works fine. Was able to simply run a network cable from the NAS to the Xbox and set the xbox to static IP. Very quiet and also seems to run very cool. I found it for under one hundred and forty with a coupon at D*LL which I thought made it a great deal.

Cons: Just slightly faster than 10/100 on write transfers. (around 13MB per second). Power switch is hidden at the back of the drive and can be a little confusing to determine the operating status of the drive. Would have been nice if it could have been setup with a web GUI rather than software. Lack of FTP is a bummer.

Other Thoughts: Great value for the a very small 1TB NAS drive for simply home networking.
