3 out of 5 eggsOk, but with faults

Pros: Cheap (for some reason the 2TB is less than this 500GB model)
Easy to setup.
After almost a year of use, it has been very stable.
Supports access from Windows, Macs, Linux boxes and almost any media box you can think of.

Cons: Firmware needs more regular updates.
Slow-ish, but still fast enough to use for HD media storage that is played on PS3, WDTV, etc..
Iomega only wants to let you swap out drives with THEIR drives, not your own.
Drives are loud when they kick in for a media scan.

Other Thoughts: For the price, I have been happy enough with it, but I would really like to see Iomega keep up the firmware updates and be a little more upfront about replacing failed drives. If mine fail, I am not looking forward to dealing with Iomega to get is solved.

Manufacturer Response:

Thanks for the feedback - we do require that you use qualified hard disks in these devices, and our warranty is very clear. It is absolutely critical to us that you can trust the reliability of the StorCenter, and we can't do that if you replace the disks with something we haven't tested and qualified.
Most people will never experience a hard drive failure, but if you do, Iomega's warranty covers it for up to three years. You just contact Tech Support, do some basic troubleshooting, and we'll ship you out a replacement - it is easy and quick.
We want to be sure there is no confusion about the process for disk replacements, so we do appreciate your comments.

2 out of 5 eggsbuyer beware, very slow

Pros: its a dedicated storage appliance and you dont need to install any bloatware to access it. just access its webpage. its also nice and small.

Cons: This is not what I was expecting of a dedicated storage appliance.

Ive tried both windows share mode and iSCSI mode of the device. They are both slow. I can copy a 8.29GB test directory(StarCraft 2 game dir) to my brothers 8 year old PC using windows shares at 56MB/sec. I only get 24MB/sec with the dedicated iomega network storage appliance(33MB with iSCSI but than reads plummet down with iSCSI).

I was expecting my Gigabit switch to be the limiting factor. I even tried 4K jumbo packet mode(my switch cant do 9k) even though i didnt have to do anything for my PC to PC test using windows shares.

I used latest firmware (2.1.38.22294).

Also, disks are very crunchy if you know what i mean :) so it definitely needs to sit out with the patch panel and switches.

and to be clear, i switched cables around just incase the iomega patch had bad cables.

Other Thoughts: $45 for shipping and restocking fee. should have known better when they dont give you any performance numbers. if only id seen the review about new buffalo v series storage device coming out this month. they market upto 76MB/sec. How can they market this to businesses as an iSCSI solution. Dont be suckered.

I didnt want to build a mini-itx PC because I wanted a storage and only storage appliance. Something to forget like Kenmoore fridge. Didnt want to worry about it getting viruses,...

Manufacturer Response:

There are many factors that can impact performance such as your network. To maximize performance we recommend you update your firmware which can be found at

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Value

Pros: Easy To Install, Nice Form Factor, Lots of custom setting.

Cons: Bluetooth requires an adapter ($15)

Other Thoughts: I went back and forth reading reviews on this. I'm glad I got it. The biggest complaints reading other reviews are that it's noisy and there are no instructions. When I got it I was expecting a small vacuum - it's nothing like that at all. While I would not place it in a TV or bedroom, I have no issues with "the noise" in my office. I barely notice it. As for instructions - it's really a no brainier; turn it on, run the CD. Working on XP, Win 7, Android phone via Bluetooth adapter, and my Mac with Time Machine.

I'm glad i got it!

1 out of 5 eggsIomega is very poor quality

Pros: Absolutely NONE!

Cons: I have purchased two Iomega 1TB units only to have them fail after one year.

Other Thoughts: If you value your data and don't want to have to spend your hard earned money to replace this product, keep shopping!

Manufacturer Response:

Sorry to hear about your experience. We have sold many of these devices and they work great. Please contact our tech support and they will gladly take good care of you https://iomega-na-en.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/iomega_na_en.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=14408

1 out of 5 eggsThis product is a joke.

Pros: The price.

Cons: The price. I should have read between the lines. For all of the features, it seemed like _such_ a good deal.
--
My hard drives (at least one of them) clicks. Which means it's going out. I have constant disk access happening. My data transfers are terribly slow. 10/100 network running at 100Full - I have not exceeded 7MB/sec in transfers. On a gigabit network, never exceeded 12.5MB/sec.
--
I called tech support to see what to do about this. I speak with a person that is on the ball. He sends me a new power supply, as it could be low voltage making the heads click.
--
Didn't work.
--
I call back. Get some chucklehead that doesn't even listen to the fact that I'm telling him it's broken. He just says that the symptoms are not common. He'll have to have someone get back to me. This was a tier 3 tech. I ask for new HDD's. He says he doesn't know. So I sent them an e-mail to cancel the ticket, it's easier for me to just buy a Qnap and build my own. They never even re

Other Thoughts: This is a great deal price-wise. But you're buying snake oil.

1 out of 5 eggsWhat a mistake

Pros: It was cheap

Cons: Spent the past three nights and about 8 hours on the phone with iomega trying to figure out what is wrong with this nas, yet iomega claims it is working normally. This thing is soooo slooooow! Transfer rates to this drive average 1.5mbs, even with the drive connected directly to the pc being backed up! My nightly backup which used to take less than 15 minutes, now takes two and a half hours. The iomega tech claimed they have no specs on transfer rates for this device. Huh? Unbelievable! What a horrible mistake this was. Luckily Newegg should let me return it. I guess you win some, you loose some. This one's a loser.

Other Thoughts: The iOmega StorCenter ix2-200 is far and away the slowest network storage we have ever had the displeasure to deal with, and there have been many. This product deserves a negative rating, unfortunately 1 star is the lowest available.

Manufacturer Response:

We're sorry that you have a negative experience with this NAS device. There are a number of possible explanations for the issues you have experienced. Some recommendations that I would consider:
1. Direct connection via a network cable will still operate at network speeds. If the cable is not up to standard or if your network is running at 100Base-T, you will have a bottleneck, although, 1.5Mb/s is far slower than I've seen.
2. If you are accustomed to using a USB Storage device as a backup location, this drive will not meet your needs.
3. Be aware that when backing up data through your NAS to an external hard drive attached to the NAS, the data will be transferred to your computer then sent back up to the NAS device, doubling the network load. Consider using the on device "Copy Jobs" utility found in the "Settings" tab under "Backup and Restore".

I hope that this information resolves some of your transfer issues.

5 out of 5 eggsHome Run

Pros: Cheap
Easy to Remove Hard Drive
Easy To Setup
Tons of features
Pretty Fast

Cons: None ATM

Other Thoughts: My Old Network Hard Drive was about to go out, so I wanted something cheap, Easy to Install but easily upgradeable. This Unit Hit the mark for me. Only Problem is that NewEgg did not have it when i wanted to buy it, so i had to get it somewhere else. It did get it for cheaper that NE had it listed. $230 Shipped!!
