4 out of 5 eggsI like it

Pros: Good Price, ESATA and multiple connections, on board RAID.

Cons: Not the best documentation, takes some effort to make work in Windows. Once you get it figured out, it works pretty well. This is attached to a server and working quite nicely.

4 out of 5 eggsGood but finicky product

Pros: Iomega quality, sturdy construction, good airflow for cooling, multiple interfaces. Small DIP switches to change RAID mode.

Cons: No eSATA cable; just USB and Firewire 400/ 800 cables. Preformatted for Mac; Windows PC & Disk Management could not see the HD to reformat with USB connection (tried various combinations of having HD on or off during bootup etc.). Connected with eSATA and PC locked up, would not POST. Finally booted up with Ultramax off, then turned it on, and voila- was now able to initialize it and reformat to NTFS. (Make sure that AHCI is enbled in BIOS). eSATA was essential to make this work, yet no cable provided!

Other Thoughts: Just put it into use today, so cannot comment on long term reliability. Internal HD's appear to be Seagate, so hope that they fixed their earlier problems.

4 out of 5 eggsBought two, work pretty darn well

Pros: - Multiple Interfaces WITH cables for all of them
- Good cooling characteristics
- Raid-0 default means fast writes and reads
- Fairly quiet

Cons: - Come preformatted for Macs, so expect some time to reformat
- Two drives rather than one means slightly more likely to fail sooner

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these drives because you don't want to backup 4TB onto anything other than another 4TB drive. I use one drive hooked up via eSATA to a Win 7 64bit machine, and the other using USB2 to a WDTV Live Media Player. Copy files over the network to both so that they have the same stuff at all times. I like that the cage containing the 2-TB drives (you get 4TB using these in their default RAID-0 configuration) is designed to maximize airflow while not making them too noisy.

4 rather than 5 stars because the user documentation is virtually non-existent, as is their tech support. If you know what you're doing, and if the drives arrive in ok shape, this shouldn't be an issue.

1 out of 5 eggsArrived Dead

Pros: None I can experience right now.

Cons: Arrived dead.
No button to rebuild the array.

Other Thoughts: I talked to iOmega support and initially it was believed to be a usb cable issue. Today, I bought two brand new usb cables for it, and then tested between two systems. One running Windows 7, and one running Windows XP, I even live disked several linux distros. Then I installed Backtrack 4 final on the laptop with Windows 7, and it still could not find the device. I talked to Blake from iOmega tech support, and determined that the cause is the actual hard drive. Neither of the hard drives are getting power, while the fan runs and the lights on front light up.
Power supply was used on another external hard drive, older model, and so the power supply works fine.

Going the the RMA process now. Hopefully this will be resolved the first time around, otherwise I won't be using their products again.
