5 out of 5 eggsFlawless operation with every computer & OS

Pros: I have plugged this into Windows 7 64-bit, Ubuntu 10.04, and two friend's Mac laptops; it has worked every time, without fail.

It's also very sturdy. I have also carried it in my backpack on many occasions.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This is large enough that I can have my backups on here and still use it to move large files over to a friend's computer.

I have never needed to use the second USB plugin. So I have no idea how well that works.

1 out of 5 eggsIf I thought it feasible, I'd sue

Pros: Quiet, portable, affordable.

Cons: Broke after two months. It became very very slow then suddenly stopped working. I now have to decide whether to pay large fees to recover data from a device that is less than three months old. My purchase of this device was a nightmareish decision. I would not recommend it to anyone.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this device if you want to be able to rely on an external hard drive for safe storage.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Works as advertised. It's typically Russian roulette when it comes to drives like these they either work great or are worthless, especially if you have to go in between various machines and OS's. No problems so far.

Cons: Not a big fan of the aesthetics on the over-sized translucent USB cables compared to the simple thin black ones - reminds me of the clear Mac's. This one has an extra plug daisy chained on the end to connect others.

1 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: When they worked, they worked great, no problems. Small size, large capacity, cool looking enclosure.

Cons: Every computer I plug these into says it cannot recognize the device. I have tried everything and spent many hours searching the internet for a solution but currently don't have one.

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these to take to Nicaragua to save photos and videos on. I am thankful that I backed up everything to other drives as soon as I got home because otherwise I would have no access to my HD videos and RAW Canon photo files from my trip. They worked great for a month and then crapped out. Be wary!

5 out of 5 eggsProven the best on the market

Pros: The metal case, the 1TB capacity, the small size, the durability. I was glad to see it was mini-USB. Not a fan of mico.

I've taken this drive on two deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. It's been beaten, dropped, covered in dust, and it works amazing. I bought one originally in January 2010 to fill with movies for my travels. Since then, I use this one still plus added a second drive. I liked them so much, I even gave out of them as wedding presents to my friends and family (everyone needs one of these drives).

The metal case has plastic ends, but they have not been an issue. The metal also seems to dissipate heat well when left with some space around it.

The little LED light is bright enough to see, and reliable to know when it's processing. She's so quiet that often that's the only way too know. The light is also NOT annoyingly bright like others which tend to light the entire room up when powered on.

Cons: It can get pretty warm with extended transfers to pay attention. This is probably a pro to it's durability but I've had mine SCREAMING hot and it still runs fine.

I've had some issues with the power it needs. My computers have had no problems and I can plug in the single USB plug. However on some computers I plug into, the drive will beep and the computer will not register the drive. 98% of the time this is solved by simply plugging in the power USB cable as well. I've come across only 1 computer that the drive did not like at all. The owner of that non-name brand laptop said "it was a p.o.s" anyways so we plugged into his other Alienware one and it worked just fine. If I need to sometimes use two USB's that's totally fine as long as I don't have to plug her into the wall separately.

Other Thoughts: my friend bought a WD 1TB when I bought this. Both were the newest 1tb's on the market. His WD was a new micro-USB, and the Iomega is a mini-USB. Like clockwork, he would be 2-3 hours into a large transfer and the micro-USB would come lose. Either by as simple as a bump in the room to moving it slowly from one side to the other to open the DVD-drive. It was garbage in my opinion. It was also a plastic case that seemed weak in my opinion.

This iomega is the only way to go with portable, large capacity drives. It's proven it's self for many a customer and I doubt anything will be as great a price for such high quality again, anytime time soon. You know, I think I'm going to buy another one after I submit this review haha.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: Bought this for my wife as she was running out of space on her macbook, she's into photography as a hobby and side projects and all those pics accumulated over the years have taken a toll, this was perfect for her as she sometimes needs to have the pictures available.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: Its is a little thicker than normal 2.5" portable drives but no biggie as the overall size is still real small.
