2 out of 5 eggsNot as cool as it seems

Pros: It has a good amount of storage, and includes a wifi dongle. Netflix works, but is feature poor.

Cons: Even though ithis device is designed to be a media server / player, it doesn't function that way. You can load media to the drive and browse around it, and it will connect to a windows network. However trying to play videos or music from the device is cumbersome and almost impossible. There is no file preview or thumbnail, just text lists. I have yet to get the "file server" function to actually function. The remote is full qwerty, but almost unusable. It's perfectly square so you have to look at it to see which end to point at the box. It's a 2hand remote, and not comfortable to hold. Many of the buttons don't do what they seem and there's NO SPACE BAR!

Other Thoughts: Boxee GUI is prettier, easier and more intuitive. Even Roku box worked better for streaming content. The magic server/storage/streaming device is NOT found here

3 out of 5 eggsUI is poor

Pros: Easy setup, interface, etc. Wifi works great. Plays tons of formats.

Cons: The interface is very misleading by IOmega! Their advertisement videos and such suggest that you can browse your movies visually (by the box art) and that is NOT possible....despite updating the firmware to the latest (as of 9/3/2011). Instead you get a disgusting monolithic text based list of your hundreds of movies.
I bought this for my less-technical family members to use, and they can use it, but for movie playback it's ugly and clunky. Very disappointed!

Other Thoughts: C'mon mod community...it's open source firmware....let's fix this thing.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello -
Thank you for your feedback on the user interface for the Media Player. You can view your media files, including your movies, using either a thumbnail view or a list view with the DX. Depending on the source of your movie files, you may need to manually add the metadata or the thumbnail to display. The instructions are available on Iomega's Support site.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!

Pros: This media player is awesome! I bought two and i love them i'm actually thinking about buying two more. This player plays everything i throw at it! File transfer is super easy with the front USB inputs and a flash drive. Or even transfer files over the wireless network. It even comes with the WiFi adapter! The 1TB internal is perfect no need to have two devices plugged in(player and external). Pandora, Netflix, and other internet options built right into the player. The remote is very easy to use. A+++ highly reccomended! Dont waste your money on cheaper players with no internal hard drive or WiFi adapter...

Cons: No complaints so far...

Other Thoughts: I wish i could transfer files and use the player at the same time.
