The Iomega StorCenter px4-300r Network Storage array is a high performance server class rackmount array that is ideal for small-to medium-sized businesses and distributed enterprises for local and remote content sharing and advanced data protection. Powered by EMC storage technology and with up to 12TB of storage capacity, including a diskless option, the px4-300r comes in a space-saving 1U form factor that is easy to setup and manage, and affordable to own. The StorCenter px4-300r provides cross platform file sharing and simultaneous iSCSI block access. High performance I/O is achieved through dual GbE connections with port bonding and link aggregation capabilities.

The Iomega Personal Cloud technology offers unparalleled simplicity and versatility for data protection and access. Business users will appreciate the robust data protection features such as multiple RAID levels with hot swap drives, UPS support, print serving, user quotas, device-to-device data replication and certification for most virtualization environments. The easy-to-use interface provides no hassle management. Active Directory support and remote access round out the comprehensive business features. The StorCenter px4-300r also embeds the Axis Video Hosting System solution and can support up to 12 Axis IP security cameras for video surveillance applications. RSA BSAFE encryption for protected installs and upgrades are included along with support for PC, Mac and Linux clients.

  • newegg Iomega Personal Cloud Iomega Personal Cloud is the revolutionary technology that allows you to protect and share your data. Iomega Personal Cloud is a proprietary, web-based computing architecture that connects your Iomega StorCenter network storage devices to other individuals and/or devices via the Internet. Unlike public and private cloud applications, Iomega’s Personal Cloud technology is completely self-owned – so the content and accessibility is always under your control.
  • newegg Easy Storage Expandability Add storage capacity by simply connecting external USB hard disk drives. Empty bays are fitted with a drive carrier that can accommodate 2.5" and 3.5" drives. Drives are available from Iomega or may be purchased from the approved vendor list.
  • newegg RAID, SSD, UPS Support and Dual-Gigabit Ethernet Connection With on-disk data protection and organization configurable as RAID 1, 10, 5, with hot spare (RAID 0 and JBOD mode also available), the StorCenter px4-300r comes with automatic RAID rebuild and hot swap drives to increase the performance, data redundancy and storage capacity. It can be fitted with solid state drives to boost performance for IO intensive applications. Meanwhile, the Dual-Gigabit Ethernet connectivity and high-performance embedded architecture provide extremely high throughput. Advanced power management includes UPS support in the event of power loss. The StorCenter px4-300r is also dual power supply capable — simply add a second accessory power supply for 1+1 redundancy. Ships with a single power supply.
  • newegg Multi-platform, Multi-technology Support The StorCenter px4-300r supports PC, Mac and Linux, as well as iSCSI, making it an ideal choice for any environment. iSCSI target provides block-level access for the most efficient storage utilization, especially for backup, database and email application performance. It can be used in parallel with file-level storage access via CIFS/NFS. Includes support for SCSI-3 persistent reservations.
  • newegg Other Features UPnP DLNA Certified, the Iomega StorCenter px4-300r provides the ability to stream photos, audio content and videos to a variety of media devices, such as game consoles (Microsoft Xbox 360, Sony PlayStation 3), audio bridges, iTunes players, picture frames, Iomega ScreenPlay products and more. 1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable, poor support, DO NOT BUY

Pros: Good price

Cons: Unreliable
Terrible technical support / customer service
Unacceptable return policy

Other Thoughts: This device shuts down with no warning. Sometimes it logs why it shuts down, sometimes it doesn't. So far, calls to technical support result in one of two types of responses:
1. Disable most of its features
2. Update the firmware

Tech support has told me that if you have too many users accessing the device, that could be a problem.
I'm sorry, but where in the sales literature and specifications does it say, "no more than 3 users at a time may access the device, otherwise the device will spontaneously shut down?"

The latest shutdown was logged as the power supply being too hot. The call to tech support says they know of this issue - please update the firmware.

Updating the firmware results in the device being unavailable for 45 minutes or so. Be prepared.

After how long a period of unreliable service is one supposed to give up? Oh, I know -- after the warranty expires perhaps?

I will never purchase an iomega or EMC product again.

Pros: Lots of toys, lots of storage, fast network reads and writes.

Cons: Tech support somewhat lacking..
Return policy is weak...
Issue with Windows Server 2003 backup?
Interface lacks some important features

Other Thoughts: My major issue is that there seems to be an incompatibility with Windows 2003 Server ntbackup. NTBackup jobs to this NAS take 6 times as long as to other NAS servers including an Iomega ix4-200r. XP ntbackup does not display the same issue, and straight file transfers are just as good as to other NAS devices on the same network (>450 Mbps). Acronis backups to this NAS are blazing fast. Its just the 2003 version of NTBackup that crawls (tested from multiple servers). Go figure...
