1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable, poor support, DO NOT BUY

Pros: Good price

Cons: Unreliable
Terrible technical support / customer service
Unacceptable return policy

Other Thoughts: This device shuts down with no warning. Sometimes it logs why it shuts down, sometimes it doesn't. So far, calls to technical support result in one of two types of responses:
1. Disable most of its features
2. Update the firmware

Tech support has told me that if you have too many users accessing the device, that could be a problem.
I'm sorry, but where in the sales literature and specifications does it say, "no more than 3 users at a time may access the device, otherwise the device will spontaneously shut down?"

The latest shutdown was logged as the power supply being too hot. The call to tech support says they know of this issue - please update the firmware.

Updating the firmware results in the device being unavailable for 45 minutes or so. Be prepared.

After how long a period of unreliable service is one supposed to give up? Oh, I know -- after the warranty expires perhaps?

I will never purchase an iomega or EMC product again.

Issue with Windows Server 2003 backup?
Interface lacks some important features

Other Thoughts: My major issue is that there seems to be an incompatibility with Windows 2003 Server ntbackup. NTBackup jobs to this NAS take 6 times as long as to other NAS servers including an Iomega ix4-200r. XP ntbackup does not display the same issue, and straight file transfers are just as good as to other NAS devices on the same network (>450 Mbps). Acronis backups to this NAS are blazing fast. Its just the 2003 version of NTBackup that crawls (tested from multiple servers). Go figure...
