2 out of 5 eggsunreliable

Pros: lots of space for the $

Cons: The first one worked fairly consistently for 6 months or so, before it started going unexpectedly unavailable. (Disk not spinning, unit unresponsive.) Their chatroom tech-support guy arranged a replacement - a refurbished one functionally identical. I've had it for maybe 2 months and it's dying just like the first.

I was hoping it would provide some online space for movies, music, and such. But it's not reliable enough for that or any other function I'm aware of. I wish I'd spent more. Next time I'll splurge for a NAS with a RAID setup.

Other Thoughts: Looks like it's no longer available - a favor to would-be customers, IMO. (We use Lenovo 2-disk Raid1 boxes at the office, that have proven more reliable for backup drives.)

4 out of 5 eggsGood NAS

Pros: Good little NAS for your movies, pics, documents. Easy GUI setup feature. Small, doesn't draw much electric. Now they are owned by Lenovo they seem to be a good backer. Had no issues with a warranty claim, went easier than I could had imagined.

Cons: Seem to be a lot of firm ware updates through the last year for vulnerabilities.

4 out of 5 eggsUseful backup drive

Pros: Setup was a breeze. Like a corporate drive configuration. Maps drives automatically using software and is simple to use. Backups are decently fast, and the size of this drive is enough to not worry about what to backup.

Cons: Drive is hot and loud when in use. It sits in my kitchen, and seems to be always on. I only use it to backup, so when it's not in use I turn it off to keep the noise down.

Other Thoughts: I would purchase this drive again. With what others have said about the drive failing it would make me nervous to use as a storage drive, however for backups this drive is great.

5 out of 5 eggsFastest for archiving and streaming.

Pros: I don't know why the others failed. After reading the reviews I decided to take the plunge, because it's processor is the fastest (for streaming to WD TV). And I have no other intention other than to just keep all my movies in one location and stream to TV when I want.
So it was the simplest setup right out of the box, in Windows 7. Literally plug and play. The config screen is easy enough. You get to assign a drive letter to each folder if you want. Makes transfer easier. This is so simple, I can now set another one up at my parent's house, so simple.

Cons: None so far.
I mean for ultra-critical data, I would get a solid-state. It's a battle you can't, about moving parts. Might as well move everything to solid state now.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far SO GOOD

Pros: Plugged in the power and network cords and it started working. Every device I have used to access it worked without issue. I am using windows backup to backup my machines haven't even looked at any of the Iomega software which is superfluous IMO. The device out of the box feels well constructed and while the front and back have plastic the main body is metal. For the price of USB drive this thing provides way more functionality.

Cons: I received a DOA unit. It took a little over a week to get the replacement. Make sure to carefully follow the exchange process and turn around is fairly quick. The out of the box setup leaves your nas with read/write access to everyone. not really a con as long as you realize it. makes it very easy to use from Android smart phones / tablets.

Other Thoughts: All hard drives fail. If you keep any of your valuable data on one device you will eventually lose it. For the short time I have had this device I have had no issues.

1 out of 5 eggsTotal waste of money

Pros: Would be a good NAS if the device works.

Cons: It died less than two months. Waited more than 1 month just to get one out of the two parts they promised to send to me to test the power supply. Not to mention, I called them twice to follow up on the shippment and both times they said something was wrong with the info in the system so the parts never got shipped out. Now they said that they will send me the other parts to test the power supply and they will not replace the device untill the power supply has been tested. So I am still stuck with a useless device. If whatever they are sending me is still not working, I have to wait again for them to replace the unit. So my experience so far, is WAIT, WAIT, and WAIT!!!

I totally agreed with the other person who left a comment saying that he could rate it zero egg if possible.

Other Thoughts: I would not recommend this product.

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK. Spend more for a good NAS

Pros: Power supply worked out of box. LAN cable was ok. Lights work and devce saves data on the rare times it is actually working.

Cons: Slow. Drops of LAN frequently and nothing wakes it up other then a power cycle.

If I could rate it with zero eggs I would.

Other Thoughts: This device is FAIL. Shame on me for not returning it in a timely manner. Now I think I am stuck with a glorified paperweight. Buyer Beware!!!

1 out of 5 eggsPlastic Brick

Pros: None, perhaps good intentions?

Cons: I have owned 5 of these (2 TB version) through out the course of a 4 month period. (Purchased from a competitor) ALL FIVE BRICKED within 2 months of time. 3 broke within the 1st week. Newegg is the only site I have found that has even remotely decent reviews, please research this device elsewhere and see for yourself.

Twonky software is trial-ware and the iomega backup software is not Win 8 compatible.

Unit can only be turned off via software and in most cases will not respond from the command leaving one left with no other option than to pull the adapter plug from the back.

The HD will park itself and sound like a train wreck. These get so hot that the plastic smells like it is burning. Please do not put yourself through the torture of returning and RMAing repeatedly only to pay a restocking as a reward for your diligence.

I am certain that "All" or most of the good reviews will be changed in the near future as it is just a matter of hours/days/weeks before theirs breaks too!

If I save just once person from purchasing this garbage my time here has been spent well. Do yourself a favor and build a unit from a better company such as Synology for about the same price and without any of the issues that this plastic brick provides.

Other Thoughts: You have been warned...

5 out of 5 eggsWoohoo!

Pros: Truly plug-n- play, plugged in the power cord, plugged in the LAN cable, up & running, even without downloading the manager software

Cons: Would like a more definitive way of shutting it off, rather than pulling the LAN cable to suspend it before powering off - if it's running 24/7, this is a non-issue.
