5 out of 5 eggsExcellent drive

Pros: So far, works great; almost no noise; sits nicely on top of my MacPro; Firewire 800 works great with almost no lag in transfer speed. Very durable and looks good.

Cons: Nothing so far. We do have a 1TB version with port problems after about 8 months, but this one seems rock solid.

Other Thoughts: I don't think RAID of 2 separate 1 TB drives is such a bad thing. That's how the price is so low. This drive gives me 2 TB of fast and available storage space and that's what I wanted when I bought it!

1 out of 5 eggsFraudulent - not a hard drive!

Pros: Quiet

Cons: Poor ventilation. The unit I purchased exactly one year ago just died due to the cheap fan giving out so I opened the unit up. It is not one 2TB HD, it's TWO 1TB HDs in RAID-0 config (striped array without parity). A two-HD RAID0 unit >doubles< the unit's probability of failure because one disk failure takes out the array. No where on in the product's description is this config indicated. I consider this a fraud.

Other Thoughts: Caveat Emptor

1 out of 5 eggsNot Worth It

Pros: Large capacity

Cons: Horrible documentation. Took forever to get web interface to administer the system to actually work. I didn't believe the earlier reviews regarding sound - believe this. It is VERY loud. I have it on a shelf all by itself with tons of ventilation but the thing sounds like a car engine. It is constantly falling off the network, making the iTunes server (which was the purpose of it for me) unusable.

Other Thoughts: In terms of external drives, price does equate to product quality. Get something better - it's worth the money. I'm going to replace this two-month old piece of trash shortly.

Manufacturer Response:

This unit does not have a web interface. I think you are confusing it with a different product. Please contact our Support Department so they can address your issue.

Please email us at if you require assistance.

3 out of 5 eggsBought 2 - 1 DOA

Pros: XP Pro 64-bit recognized the first drive right away, and I was able to back up my data without a problem. I keep it running 24/7, as I do daily incremental backups. It's fast using the Firewire 400 connection. I'd use the Firewire 800 connection if my workstation supported it :-(

Cons: The Second drive was dead on arrival. Too bad too. I called Newegg, and they issued an RMA without delay. The little red read/write LED stays on and won't turn off. And it's making a soft clicking sound. Bad sound to have come from a HD.

Other Thoughts: I knew that these Fantom Drives get average reviews, but I decided to go with them hoping for the best. If price weren't an issue, then I'd most certainly would have bought something more expensive and with better reviews.

Beware of these Fantom Drives. Like all of this hardware, it's like rolling dice: sometimes your on a winning streak and everything is running great, but you crapp out sooner or later. And that's certainly true of hard drives.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING!

Pros: This drive is fast! Works well with my macbook pro, pc laptop (w/macdrive, and pc desktop (w/macdrive). The usb, firewire 400, and 800. Makes it flexible between systems that might have one type of port filled. It is very quiet and cool despite the 2TB size.

Cons: Power plug is the s-video style, not the most secure kind, but no problems yet.

2 out of 5 eggsFailed

Pros: Capacity Nice looking design.

Cons: 1934b Firewire failed after just a few days of using it on my MAC. I am trying to return it to newegg for refund but I already threw away the box so they won't take it. So off to the manufacturer for repair.

Other Thoughts: I ended up buying the WD My Book II

Manufacturer Response:

We regret to hear about your experience. If you need any further assistance with your repair please email
