5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Aluminum case helps in heat dissipation and RAID 1 is great! Easy to use and setup with multiple inputs. Drives pop out easily and are user upgradable. The noise isn't bad unless you are in a super quiet area.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I can't say the following is a "con" so I put it here. The unit is a little heavy - but it has two hard drives so it isn't the best for constant carrying around. Also, the power brick is a little bulky but I'm sure it's because of two drives needing a lot of power. I use it for Mac backup and the included software is pretty good (for basic use). I too felt a review was necessary because the unit has been good to be for a long time.

2 out of 5 eggsWorked well while it lasted

Pros: Looks nice. Easy to remove hot swappable drives. Many interfaces. When drive stopped working I was able to recover information.

Cons: No explanation of error LED combinations in the user manual. No telephone support. Did not long enough for the price. Just a couple of years. No way to order a replacement part.

Other Thoughts: Bought Datadock II about two years ago. Now it looks like the board went bad. All LEDs are on and drive is not usable. Fortunately no data loss occurred as I was able to recover data by connecting one of the drives directly to SATA port on my PC. (the dock was used in mirror mode). Out of warranty repair was quoted to me by [...] at "Maximum repair charge for the DDQ Enclosure is $139.99+45$+Shipping". Be aware that there is no telephone support so be prepared to use their message board. For the price I would expect a longer lasting product, hence only two stars.

2 out of 5 eggskinda lame

Pros: Worked great for 6 months

Cons: Seem solid, then one of my drives failed. Replaced the drive, it worked for a day or two then gave me the failed drive error again. Put the same drive in another unit and it was fine. Now the power is flaky works sometimes..... Looking for a new RAID as I type. Major bummer.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this, it was a waste of $300 bucks for me.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: All kinds of interfaces
Looks nice and sharp
Easy Upgradeable
RAID 1 is enough for personal use

Cons: It would be better if Newegg could offer 2X2TB setup

Other Thoughts: Own it three months, everything seems good. Aluminium case and RAID 1 make me feel real safe :)

5 out of 5 eggsvery solid

Pros: FANS! I have a client who works in a building that gets hot and standard external drives were dropping like flies. The fans aren't loud though, so don't let them scare you.

Cons: None that I can tell.

Other Thoughts: I normally don't always post reviews, but I felt awful for Fantom showing reviews only from 3 damaged units. This model really does work well.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you very much for your feedback. We were having an issue with units getting damaged in shipment and in order to prevent this from happening in the future we now double box each unit.

1 out of 5 eggsLooks like a lemon guys

Pros: This would be a great product if it worked. Small form factor. Low noise. Nice design. USB, FW400, FW800, and eSATA cables are ALL included!

Cons: Broken right out of the box. Drive modules can't be removed. Top one's latch moves but drive won't come out. Bottom latch won't even move. After power on, both drive trouble lights come on. Waited 2 weeks for this product and when it gets here I can't use it. My boss is not impressed and neither am I. Am going to RMA and will review again if I receive an undamaged unit.

Manufacturer Response:

Thank you for your feedback. It's always a disappointment when a drive arrives damaged or defective. To help curtail this we make every attempt to ensure that the drives we use are of the highest quality and reliability. Each drive we ship is tested by our qualified technicians before it ships. That said, even the most diligent quality assurance measures cannot ensure that drive receives the best possible care and handling while on it's way to you.
If you believe that your drive has arrived in a damaged or defective state we urge you to contact us at 1(800)800-DISK (option #2) or e-mail customercare@fantomdrives.com

1 out of 5 eggsSame as above...

Pros: Good idea.

Cons: Could not get either drive out. Attempted many times. The drive release levers would depress and the drives would start to come out, but after coming out about a half inch, both drives would stop.

Other Thoughts: This is the second Fantom product that I have purchased, the first was a NAS. The NAS had to be completely wiped and reconfigured before it would function correctly and this device is physically non-functional. I would not recommend Fantom products no matter how good the price is.

Manufacturer Response:

Your symptoms are consistent with damage to the drive canisters in shipping. Please contact our customer care team for help in addressing this problem. You can request warranty service on our site here:

If you have any questions about our warranty service/policies please e-mail: customercare@fantomdrives.com

1 out of 5 eggsOut of the box failure

Pros: Offers a simple esata solution to redundantly record media in the field.

Cons: Pushpin drive release handles are flimsy. I was unable to remove the bottom drive. When I powered up the unit it displayed a red light indicating the drive was faulty. So I did not get a chance to actually use the drive. Unit was returned.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear you received a DOA unit. Please go to our website and fill out a RMA request form and we will replace your unit for you. When filling out the RMA request form please request a FedEx Call Tag and we will cover shipping.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at 1(800)800-DISK(3475) select option #2 for Technical Support or email us at support@micronet.com
