1 out of 5 eggsFailed

Pros: Used as TimeMachine backup for my desktop Mac. Sleek, quiet.

Cons: After one and a half years this drive has failed. Chirps when trying to read and will not respond to formatting, verification, etc. Going back to LACIE brand where I've had better luck.

1 out of 5 eggsfailed after 1 month

Pros: cheap

Cons: failed after 1 month of use. Got an RMA # and then the drive fell off the 3ft high coffee table and the snapped on case came apart tearing the warranty sticker. What a waste of money. Dont buy. Drive inside is a Seagate.

5 out of 5 eggsHappy HardDrive

Pros: Nice basic hard drive for backing up my files. I only turn it on when I want to backup my work or family videos and pictures. I partition the drive in NTFS for windows and HFS Plus for the Mac. So far no problems - Good price. They did a great job on the instruction manual for people who are not tech savvy. So newbie’s will find it helpful and user friendly.

Cons: The USB cable is short. So depending on your setup you may want a larger cable or extension.

Other Thoughts: This will need a cool place when running so it won’t overheat. I would not keep this running all day because it has no airflow. Turn it on when you want to backup then turn it back off when not in use to keep the life of this HD. Newegg did a great job as always.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what is it supposed to

Pros: 1.5TBs for $69.99. Recognized immediately by Windows when plugged in. Has been very dependable so far.

Cons: Can lie flat only, taking up more desktop space. Wish it had option to stand on end to save space. Like many of these type of drives, the power supply is a big brick at the end of the cord, making it tought to plug into a surge suppressor.

Other Thoughts: Some will downgrade this drive due to the fact is is only USB 2, but not me. I kinew it was USB 2 when I bought it and that is plenty fast for a backup drive.

5 out of 5 eggsDecent Product

Pros: The drive fired right up. Of course I reformatted it myself first thing. Once that was taken care of, I used it to backup my school tablet's hard disk. Worked like a charm!

Cons: None really.

Other Thoughts: I only wish it was USB powered, but that's not such a big deal. I knew what I was getting when I bought it, so I'm really not disappointed. The drive is held in a plastic shell, which might bother some, but I find it to be adequate.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid like the plague.

Pros: None.

Cons: This hard drive is an absolute piece of garbage. I plug it in and I'm immediately given an error message. After formatting it, it only successfully transfers content maybe one in every ten attempts. It's slow as hell when accessing.

Do not listen to the other reviews claiming this is a good drive. It's not. It is not at all. Save your money, and get a Seagate or something instead. I know I'll never purchase a Fantom Drive product again.

5 out of 5 eggsSturdy, Quiet,

Pros: Very good hard drive, I use this hard to install all my hard core games. Like Hitman Absolution and Call of Duty Black Ops 2. I also have my editing Programs like After Effects install on it. So, This had drive can handle some mainstream programs. Yes, I would recommend it.

Cons: Not a well known name brand, that I know off. But just as good as Seagate, Or Western Digital

5 out of 5 eggsNice Drive, Nice Price

Pros: Large capacity drive for relatively little.

I purchased this drive as a backup drive for my music collection. The drive runs hot when transferring copious amounts of data at one time, but as this is a fan-less design so I rather expected that. I sat it on a laptop cooling pad with fans and transferred almost one terabyte of data flawlessly without any heat issues.

The drive performs as all USB mass storage drives do so there is nothing to add on that. It is a bit slow to be recognized while the computer is booting but it's 1.5 terabytes and my machine is over 5 years old so I guess that is to be expected. There is also a bit of a lag before being fully displayed in a File Manager, (Thunar or Nautilus on Xubuntu Linux), but that too seems as if it should be normal considering the size of the drive.

I've only had the drive for several weeks but so far I'm very pleased with the drives performance and plan on purchasing another one at the sale price.

Cons: As stated previously, it will run hot while transferring very large amounts of data so consider that when purchasing.

Other Thoughts: This drive should work fine for backup purposes for homes and/or small business situations. I can imagine the heat issue would become a big thing in any situation where large amounts of data were being transferred on a frequent and regular basis. As long as the data isn't vital, it might be worth trying in a NAS or personal cloud situation. It comes with a one year limited warranty so for once the extended warranty might make sense.

1 out of 5 eggs2 Junk out of 3

Pros: cheap (1 egg for this)

Cons: Bought 3 of these for my repair shop. The first one was blinking amber(light purple) non stop as soon as I plugged it into any computer. As soon as I unplugged it it worked. Tried another USB cable and same thing. Plugged in the second one and it took about 1 minute before the computer reckognized it and made a strange beeping noise which I had to restart it to fix.

Other Thoughts: I didn't even try the 3rd one since I wouldn't feel comfortable selling this to any customer of mine. I heard the other reviews and thought WOW a really cheap Ext Hard Drive that people say works. . . Don't fall for those other reviews.
