After a month, both the original and the drive that I received after an RMA throw errors and cause Mac OS X to present the drive as read only until remounted.

Secondly, on my windows machine (when trying to troubleshoot), the drive does not present itself consistently between firewire and USB connections. Set up an NTFS partition while on USB, disconnect properly and then connect via firewire.. "Drive needs to be initialized!" The fireware update on the website was supposed to fix this, but it did not.

Other Thoughts: I suspect they got a bad batch of 4Tb hard drives going into these enclosures. Another G-Drive 1Tb that I have set up as an offsite backup has been running flawlessly.

Pros: Usually a reliable drive.

Cons: It died.

Pros: It's fast, built solid, and has tons of space.

Cons: Not a drawback of the drive itself, but something to remember when setting your expectations. The USB 3.0 is bottle-necked by the device you are transferring from. So the speed when transferring from other USB 2.0 drives was annoying but it can't be helped. When moving files from my PC it went much faster.

Pros: Okay, I wrote the negative review on this G-Drive product before and I have to retract my negative review as the I NOW believe the problem was with a faulty firewire cable. Okay, I'm a dumba*s but I wanted to counter the previous bad review I give it.
