4 out of 5 eggsPretty decent product

Pros: Performs as advertised. Pretty easy to setup. Great for those backups that don't require you to have it plugged in all the time.

Cons: Cooling fan is a bit loud. It's a good thing Fantom didn't advertise "quiet" and that I wasn't looking for "quiet" in my backup system. 1/2 egg loss for fan noise. The other 1/2 egg loss was coz I can't give 1/2 egg back.

Other Thoughts: Two things come to mind. #1 - Would of been better if they opted for a larger fan with same CFM but lower dB not sure of the case design but it looks like it should of been able to accomodate a larger fan. #2 The instructions could be a bit more detailed.
I eventually figured out that to configure it from Default Raid 1 to Spanning that I had to be in my operating system with the device running before it would "comit".
Thanks for a cost effective product to backup my video and pictures twice a year.

1 out of 5 eggsToo loud

Pros: Easy to setup, very fast, especially with firewire800. Configuring raid is very easy.

Cons: FAR TOO LOUD! Bought this to sit on my desk to be a backup disk for my macbook, but it's far too loud. It would be forgivable if it were the disks making the noise, but it's the fan. I'll use this unit elsewhere inside the datacenter and find another solution for my office.

Manufacturer Response:

Noise levels will vary from drive to drive and fan to fan. However if the noise level is so high as to be unbearable, we would be happy to check it out at our service center, it is always possible that the fan is failing or there is an obstruction in the path of the fan.
