5 out of 5 eggssexy

Pros: I purchased an NH92 500gb portable external HDD a few days ago. It has a lot of things going for it:
-it is super small and lightweight
-it functions completely silently
-it does not produce very much heat
-it is plug and play, requiring no formatting or drivers/software on both Mac and PC systems
-it does not require an external power source
-comes with the required USB cable and an aesthetically pleasing leather carrying case
-it is slim, sleek, and stylish. looks cool!
-it was inexpensive for me. ~10 cents per gig. nice
-the aluminum case feels sturdy. it could probably survive a ride in my backpack, which is important for us college people.

Cons: -pre-formatted 465.65 gb usable memory detected by my system(35gigs less than advertised!) Yeah, most hard drives are like that, but that doesnt make it okay to scam me out of 7% of the memory i paid for.
-the box did not contain a user manual. I was curious to know if the USB 2.0 Y-cable would allow the hard drive to transfer data more quickly if both USB adapters were plugged in simultaneously, alas no such relevant information was included with the drive.
-not a flash drive(consumes power)
-while nice for traveling etc, the svelte case that it comes with works like a heavy winter jacket causing the drive to heat up while under heavy use. Take it off to let your drive breathe. A drive this pretty should be naked anyway.
-out of stock lol

Other Thoughts: Some users have complained about power consumption. I use a 2007 MacBook air that only has one single notoriously wimpy USB port. That one wimpy port is enough to operate the ADATA drive without any problems.

5 out of 5 eggsconvenient, reliable

Pros: Purchased for my daughter to take to college. Uses to keep back ups for laptop and to save/transfer large files from school's computers to/from laptop when using CAD and Photoshop.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsI got two

Pros: Sturdy construction, small size, easy to install and use, included carrying case provides some drop protection, quiet and cool operation.

Cons: The USB cable is very short (19 inches).

Other Thoughts: There's no room for the USB cable in the carrying case, but I like that since I use these drives for backup and store them in a fireproof safe, so keeping size to a minimum is a good thing. I'll just store the USB cable elsewhere.

I got 1 each of the blue and pink models and they are both very attractive.

5 out of 5 eggsWork's Great

Pros: Work's Great. Very Eye Catchy too. Comes with a free case. Also comes with a Y-USB Cable wish is PERFECT since older systems, (mostly laptops), do not provide enough power to power on the unit while connecting only one of the usb plug.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Just remember to FORMAT the drive the first time you use it, that way you wont be dealing with problems later on.

Recommended Settings:

1.) File System: (NTFS)

2.) Allocation unit size: (Default allocation size)

3.) Volume Label: (Whatever you want to name your drive)

Format Options: (Quick Format)

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast, aluminum case keeps it cool. This drive is faster then my WD passport drive (400GB)

Cons: This drive draws more power then my WD Passport drive (hence the dual usb cable) which is not a problem in lots of systems, but when you luck out with a machine with one USB port... well that has been a problem.

Pros: Slim design

Cons: Dead after two month. Cost $300+ to recover about 15 GB and lost other 300 GB data.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk.

Pros: The size, color, texture and leather carrying case are all nice...BUT...

Cons: Amazingly and ironically - exactly 48 hours after I gave my FIRST review (GLOWING), the drive completely failed. No warning, nothing. Just stopped working.

A-Data is terrible to work with. While they seem quick to reply to emails, the promises are empty. I returned the drive to them a month ago and still have no replacement drive. They also denied my initial rebate request when I first bought the drive - something about not mailing it off within 3 days of purchase.

NEVER again will I purchase another A-Data product.

Too bad I couldn't leave the eggs blank -- or negative eggs.

This drive failed on me during finals at school -- I'm an art student and ALL of my final projects were on this drive. I was starting to backup the drive again when it quit. Nothing like bad timing.

Other Thoughts: Stay CLEAR away from any A-Data product. The customer service is absolutely terrible and S-L-O-W.

Newegg, however still is my favorite place to purchase and research computer stuff.

4 out of 5 eggsLove this little gadget!

Pros: small footprint, lightweight, massive storage space! Great leather pouch comes with the drive. Cool color and ultra cool texture on the drive case. The size is very much like an iPhone!

Cons: the usb cord is fairly short. Also, the cord attaches to the SIDE of the HD...and if you're not careful to unplug it before storage, the jack will bend - easily...

Other Thoughts: Would like to have a new USB cord as mine is now bent from being stored in my backpack. I didn't know that I needed to unplug it each time.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect 2.5" 500 Gb Drive

Pros: Compact. Works flawlessly.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: It's a great external HD. I don't have any issues with transfers to this HD. It comes with a "Y" USB cable just in case your laptop doesn't have enough power through a single USB connection. The USB connector is short but it's no big deal. I can't wait until A-Data makes a 1 TB drive. It comes with a nice/tough carrying case.
